Will masks be required at mosques? Are mosques churches? How much time has Trump spent in either?

Has he considered that the "conservative Christians" are his electorate? A spike in this group could be his iceberg.

I doubt any spike will impact his loyal conservative Christians. He gave them anti choice judges, and that's all that matters.

Another question - Will any snakes used in church services be required to wear masks?

How much time has Trump spent in either?

The answer, surprisingly, is a lot when he was growing up. I started a topic Why Trump is Never Wrong - Norman Vincent Peale w/an article about how his family were devotees of that great pop power of positive thinking preacher. Peale was at Marble Collegiate Church in Manhattan for years & the Trumps drove in from Queens just to hear him every Sunday. Trump claims to be Peale's "greatest pupil ever" & he believes that negative thinking (or facts based in reality) don't exist. I suppose it's as good a reason as any as to why he's expecting a miracle to end COVID19.

Trump's a little late on this subject. Most states will be allowing legit religious congregations to gather using social distancing, masks, & capacity caps starting this weekend if they haven't already.

They can't vote if they are dead from covid19, from ignoring social distancing warnings. 😉

Let them open all the evangelical nut houses.

Kiss your neighbor, shake hands, hug, host some born again potluck dinners!

Us atheists will be happy to vote by mail in November.

A virtual election w/campaign rallies & fundraisers by remote/zoom, imho, would favor Joe

He wouldn’t be traveling everywhere trying to keep up w/a grueling schedule, & the possibility of having to give speeches in hot/bad weather would be removed

Joe is no spring chicken but neither is the incumbent -
Hope I’m wrong but this election season has all the makings of going pretty quickly down the shitter - virtual-reality convention formats, protocol, policies & procedures will have to be agreed upon & that’s just the tip of the iceberg

Can’t imagine why Trump is saying churches Must open - separation of church & state that is not

Are we really going to argue over churches now? This pandemic is bringing out the worst in everyone.

The best thing for Joe is to do or say nothing. Let the Dr. Trump show roll on. Trump is doing great things daily to implode. This is who the good doctor is.

There’s nothing wrong with churches

Crowds of people, indoors, especially if they are singing, is an outbreak waiting to happen

The President did not say they "MUST" open. He stated that under the First Amendment they have the right to open and offer worship if they follow the strict guidelines laid out by the CDC. This decision has been left up to the Governors of each state.

No one is forcing anyone to attend, that is your choice in a free country.

Bars are open all across the Nation, lots of people in close quarters. Someone here explain the difference

There is a lot of good info in this article. His pandering to the religious right is nothing more than to shore up votes. Does anyone think he really cares about individuals and either their "rights" or "desires" to worship?

Trump says he'll 'override' states to reopen places of worship

https://www.startribune.com/trump-calls-on-churches-to-reopen-this-weekend/570697632/

One of the better statements from the article follows:

In-person religious services have been vectors for transmission of the virus. A person who attended a Mother’s Day service at a church in Northern California that defied the governor’s closure orders later tested positive, exposing more than 180 churchgoers. And a choir practice at a church in Washington state was labeled by the CDC as an early “superspreading" event.

Another good statement follows:

But Rabbi Jack Moline, president of Interfaith Alliance, said it was “completely irresponsible” for Trump to call for a mass reopening of houses of worship.

“Faith is essential and community is necessary; however, neither requires endangering the people who seek to participate in them,” he said. “The virus does not discriminate between types of gatherings, and neither should the president."

His language was that he'd over-ride any Governor not allowing the openings. I don't know how "MUST" is defined in your Funky-Waggle ... So far, no bars open here on the coast -although both operations (churches and bars) quite often feature the same physical-contacts - only the nature of the "spirit(s)" vary.

Not attacking you, but I sometimes wonder if you actually read the links posted before commenting. Trump identified houses of worship as "essential." He acknowledged that governors make the decision for their states, but threatened to over-ride their decisions - something he has no power to do. He didn't mentioned the 1st Amendment. He referred to the fact that "many Americans embrace worship as an essential part of life."

The assertion that bars are open all across the country is incorrect. Some states have allowed liquor to be served in various ways, including inside at 25-50% capacity, from take-out windows, & on patios. Other states remain closed to anything except liquor store purchases. Many houses of workship have been streaming services since closing their bricks & mortar locations & will continue to do so as an alternative to following CDC guidelines on the size of gatherings.

The members of the forum aren't your personal research staff nor your teachers yet you constantly call on us to explain or interpret concepts an adult should be able to reason out themselves or find the answer on google. This isn't a distance-learning forum. Anyone who wants to spend their time patiently explaining things to you is welcome to do so, but they'll not get so much as an acknowledgement or a thank you. I've no interest in an exchange w/you so please don't respond. Maybe you could spend your time answering the inane question you posed.

It's a political ploy or he wouldn't have used the flashpoint images of essential liquor stores & abortion services.

Once again, Trump shows complete ignorance of what's actually going on. Houses of worship transitioned from in-person services to streaming just as schools did back in March. Some are using zoom. Catholic churches follow the dictates of their national, regional, or local hierarchy who use secular guidelines from the CDC as the basis for their policy. I've seen parish churches open at 50% capacity when their bishop declares it safe & they follow protocols of distancing, masks, & temperature taking of both officiants & congregants.

My office has received questions about guidelines violating the constitution's separation of church & state. The answer is a big fat NO. Congress has not made any law to prevent anyone from practicing their religion. What's happened is that one aspect of religion (services) is being temporarily delivered via an alternative method (streaming, in groups of 10, via radio or TV) for a pandemic in which public health & safety is a compelling interest. No one is being denied to be whatever religious faith they choose & ALL religions are being treated equally - mosques aren't closed while Methodist churches are open.

BTW, one of the clients who questioned the constitutionality of closing in person mass started watching the stream from St. Patrick's cathedral & got hooked. She may never return to her parish church. The surprising thing was that the priest welcomed Trump & FLOTUS when they tuned in on Melania's birthday.

Not if trump gets his way and restricts vote by mail.

Straight out of the king's mouth. Pathetic. We should want everyone to vote; not restrict nor suppress vote.

Trump just comes out and says it: The GOP is hurt when it’s easier to vote

Turns out the president was too busy golfing to make it to church yesterday. Obviously it wasn't very essential to him.

As I've posted before, he's going to say anything, sellout anyone, and do whatever it takes to win the election. Be vigilant everyone and above all else, vote.

Why does this theory sound so familiar?

Oh yeah, all of the facets of the many failed elements of accusations "Russian collusion/interference" ---Impeachment and now more than likely the attempted blame of Covid 19, paired with the democrats trying everything in their power to keep Joe Biden off the debate stage.

To many Americans, religion and the practice of, is essential

The assertion that bars are open all across the country is incorrect.

You have me there, but if ANY States have allowed bars to re-open, I would counter that the free practice of worship is equally if not more indispensable to the individual making the choice to attend either.

There is not very much, if anything written or shared on this forum by the predominantly left leaning members in this little cabal that I would intentionally choose to "learn from" in the field of politics as shared on a musical message board. You may have a very high opinion of the wisdom you choose to share here and I say good for you, but that is where it begins and ends for me; it is fair enough that your opinion differs.

Shows you what is essential. Although the liquor stores probably helped keep people home, drunk and sleeping lessening the spread of the disease.

The women at masjids should have their head and face covered with a hijab or scarf. Traditionally the men do not, but even in Afghanistan they understand they can get Covid so they are covering their faces and or wearing masks. They issued guidance about that.

By the way the Bible says women should have a head covering when they pray.

I think the Torah also does.

Amazing how many people do not do that. I love the scarves the Iranian women wear. I'd like to see universal head coverings so everyone in all the religions do not feel singled out for wearing them. I also want the burqas redesigned for Afghan women so they can see better, and I would like to see pale, pretty colors in Saudi instead of black. In Jeddah some women are doing that but change comes slowly. Maybe I'll have to do this as a business.
