Trump pledges never to kill journalists

Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump pledged Monday during a speech in west Michigan that he “would never kill” journalists if he’s elected president, though he considers most reporters to be “lying, disgusting people.”
“I hate some of these people, but I’d never kill them,” Trump said at a Monday night campaign rally in suburban Grand Rapids.
Pointing to reporters and news crews covering the rally in the DeltaPlex Arena, Trump added: “I hate them. ... These people, honestly, I’ll be honest, I would never kill them. I would never do that.”
For a moment, the bombastic billionaire started to second guess his comments as the crowd of 8,100 supporters cheered.
“Uh, let’s see, uh?” Trump said. “No, I would never do that.
“Some of them are such lying, disgusting people. It’s true.”
Trump made the comments in response to media criticism he’s taken in recent days for saying it was a “great honor” to be recently praised by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
During an interview Friday on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” host Joe Scarborough questioned how Trump could be receptive to Putin’s compliments given that journalists in Russia who have questioned Putin have ended up dead.
“Well, also he’s a person that kills journalists and political opponents and invades countries. That would be a concern, would it not?” Scarborough said.
“He’s running his country and at least he’s a leader, unlike what we have in this country,” Trump responded, in a critique aimed at President Barack Obama.
Trump spoke for an hour Monday night in a meandering monologue of commentary that ranged from criticizing Ford Motor Co.’s operations in Mexico to his opponents in the race for the White House.
The GOP poll leader took aim at Democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton, making a sexually derogatory remark that the former first lady and secretary of state “got schlonged” by Obama in the 2008 Democratic primary.
“Everything that’s been involved in Hillary has been losses. You take a look. Even her race to Obama. She was going to beat Obama,” Trump said. “... How does it get worse? ... She was favored to win and she got schlonged. She lost.”
At one point, Trump commented on Clinton being temporarily missing after a commercial break during Saturday’s Democratic presidential candidate debate.
“I know where she went. It’s disgusting,” Trump told the crowd. “I don’t want to talk about it. No, it’s too disgusting.”
But what if it was a Muslim reporter of Mexican decent?
how generous of His Majesty to grant the boon of life to journalists.
And people think he's unreasonable...

His problem is he hasn't found one who will publicly admit to liking him, or thinking the way he does. For a reporter to admit that could be dangerous to his own career. Trump reminds me Howard Cosell, former sports broadcaster, whose style was much like Trump. He just tells you what he thinks.
Cosell said of himself, "Arrogant, pompous, obnoxious, vain, cruel, verbose, a showoff. There's no question that I'm all of those things." In its obituary for Cosell, The New York Times described Cosell's effect on American sports coverage: "He entered sports broadcasting in the mid-1950s, when the predominant style was unabashed adulation, offered a brassy counterpoint that was first ridiculed, then copied until it became the dominant note of sports broadcasting."
Yet, as obnoxious as people thought he was, they liked to hear what he had to say.
Howard Cosell was a great entertainer, as is Howard Stern, as is Trump, as is my drunk uncle. They say provocative things.
Not a qualification for President.
I'm not going to vote for Trump. Say whatever bad about him that you want and I will concur.
However, he's gotten more grief for using the word, "schlonged" (which has multiple meanings and connotations) in a sentence than Hillary's husband got for actually "schlonging" an intern. Yeah, that's right!

He has gotten more grief than the guy that got impeached? Yeah okay sure.

It amazes me when you see people think that kind of stuff. Reality escapes some people.

Trump has some type of personality disorder; but like people with the same 60% (at least) of what he states everyone feels deep down. No one wants to be blown up; and even Bernie Sanders deep down knows vetting can never be 100% safe. Going after Bill Clinton when Hillary accused the Donald of being sexist is a brilliant political move. Bill C has as much dirt on him as Bill Cosby

Except that Bill isn't running for president. Neither is Bill Cosby. 😛

Trump hasn't been accused of sexual abuse; but since Hillary announced she's bringing in Bill as her secret weapon he is justified in attacking. And believe me; I'm not voting for Trump.

How are you defining "sexual abuse"? Because Trump's Ex-wife accused him of "brutally raping" her.

If Trump wants to go after Bill Clinton I believe that makes all his wives fair game. The current loving wife posed on a private jet with her dress unbuttoned and her legs spread in front of a briefcase full of jewels. Hmmm. What kind of family values was she pimping then? Or, is she the one that was pimped.
But hey! Let's make this election all about how one's sexual proclivities, or the sexual proclivities of your spouse make you a better President. Good idea. It might get more people to vote.
If I were Hillary's team I'd be digging up all kinds of dirt on all Trump's wives and on Trump himself. I have a feeling it will go worse for him then it will for Bill Clinton.
Who isn't even running.

In my mind Bill is fair game only because Hillary brought him into the fray. I didn't feel this way in 2008
My primary point is that Trump has been accused of sexual abused. You said "Trump hasn't been accused of sexual abuse;" And, from what I've read, his sexual promiscuous and dalliances overshadow Bill Clinton's.
To me sex is sex. No big deal. We all do it. Apparently the Conservative Right has different opinions about sex. If Trump wants to make it an issue I think it will go badly for him.
Check out a timeline of Trump's issues with sexual assault:

Making Bill Clinton's sex life an issue is really, really stupid.
But, so are a lot of the people supporting Trump. This might play well for him.
I wouldn't consider either Bill Clinton or Donald Trump a model of gentlemanly behavior towards women. Since both are public figures who have made their lechery part of the conversation both are fair game for critics. I'm not sure one is worse than the other, but I know both are poor examples of how men should behave towards women.
Edit: To get back on topic I will say that I think Bill Clinton is less likely to kill journalists. He has the edge on Trump on that count. 😉

This may play well for evangelicals & in GOP primaries. However, in the General Election Bill Clinton would be seen as an asset. He's at 60 or 60 + favorable in ratings. If Trump should become the GOP nominee, it will be an interesting dynamic if Trump tries to use BC as a take down versus HC. I just think Trump's biggest strength (currently) is his ability to be negative and trash everyone. Trump is a strict generalist in his delivery & in current campaign mode. He has put no real specifics out there beyond the rhetoric & bluster. I guess that's enough to impress a faction of GOP voters.
