Trump Juneteenth Rally & Split RNC
A while back, Martin posed the question about liability for the RNC for delegates who attend if the #s in NC warrant a capacity cap on crowds. That issue seems to have been solved by a split convention - the RNC will conduct business in Charlotte according to its contractual obligations & Trump will make his capacity cap-free acceptance speech in Jacksonville FL (as of now) w/no info as to what the FL governor will be saying in late August.
Sure enough, Trump's campaign fund is now posting a disclaimer on its registration site for his Juneteenth Rally in Tulsa next Friday. Before a person can register, they have to "accept" the following disclaimer:
"By clicking register below, you are acknowledging that an inherent risk of exposure to COVID-19 exists in any public place where people are present. By attending the Rally, you and any guests voluntarily assume all risks related to exposure to COVID-19 and agree not to hold Donald J. Trump for President, Inc., BOK Center, ASM Global, or any of their affiliates, directors, officers, employees, agents, contractors, or volunteers liable for any illness or injury."
https://www.cnn.com/2020/06/11/politics/trump-campaign-rally-coronavirus/index.html
The last order issued by the governor was May 29 & includes restrictions to 1) enforce a “Safer at Home” order across all 77 counties, requiring those age 65 and older and individuals who are immunocompromised or have pre-existing conditions to shelter in their homes until May 15; 2) advises the public to follow CDC guidelines for social distancing by staying out of crowded places, not gathering in groups, and staying at least 6 feet away from other people, & 3) requires individuals to quarantine for 14 days once returning from the following states where national experts have identified significant community spread of COVID-19: New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Louisiana, California, Washington.
No information as to whether #1 has been extended; #3 seems like it would be hard to enforce even w/pre-registration.
In the CNN article, a NYU law professor states that while this sort of disclaimer may start to appear regularly for Trump rallies, it is only "limited protection." In other words, none. If an organizer holds an event that is counter to public health/CDC guidelines, then it could be held grossly negligent & this sort of disclaimer is meaningless.
All of this is just Trumpian logic - COVID19 is a hoax-no need for masks/social distancing-my followers don't believe in COVID19 or the need for masks/social distancing/quarantine-but I'm going to CMA by having this disclaimer.
Anyone from Tulsa here w/more info?

Never heard of Juneteenth.
Never heard of Juneteenth.
tcatanesi has a post about it in Knee Outrage.
I started a separate thread as news develops this week.
when push comes to shove in the event of real damages they quickly get torn to bits in court.
Nice to see them sweating it
Pretty worthless, especially if it's contrary to whatever gubernatorial plan is in place at the time. I'm more surprised that people are willing to register.

Why would you be surprised? They voted for him. That should tell you all you need to know.

Some of the MAGA crowd seem disorganized/spontaneous & unlikely to register online in advance of the rally. The white supremacists are organized & plan in advance. I assume they all use fake names & none of them are likely to sue.
Never heard of Juneteenth.
It is the anniversary when people were told that slavery was abolished.
I just reserved my 2 seats. I can't wait to not go.
So, after consulting w/his "many African American friends & supporters," Trump's moving the Juneteenth Rally to the following day - Saturday, June 20. Wonder who convinced him to do that - not that a day or the same location makes a true difference.
https://www.cnn.com/2020/06/12/politics/donald-trump-tulsa-rally-juneteenth/index.html
Trump shows about .0000125 of an ounce of respect in rescheduling the event ... until the next day. Good for him, I guess.
Now, if he WAS totally unaware of the significance of "Juneteenth", as well as the 101 anniversary of the Oklahoma race MASSACRE - then his intelligence personnel are providing him with some real $hit service.
Edit: change "riots" to "MASSACRE"

Now, if he WAS totally unaware of the significance of "Juneteenth"
According to the NYT this morning, this is one of the "rare instances of Trump," who doesn't believe in systemic racism & does believe that 99.99% of police officers are good people, "bending to criticism." He'd been beat up by a black interviewer on Fox about race Friday & this announcement came Friday night - so late that his staff was still promoting the event as the 19th last night.
Trump isn't smart - any info he gets is from cable news & a handful of staffers. It wouldn't surprise me a bit that no one on his re-election campaign even knew about the Tulsa race massacre. Trump's eagerness to go to OK where he'd been told pandemic restrictions had been lifted early probably drove them to that location & date.

You know the end is near when even there are a few (repeat few) voices at State Run TV that will challenge Trump. This has been happening more frequently in the last few months, and even CSA Prez #2 has taken notice. He's criticized FOX in tweets. My goodness. Even FOX is fair game to be on the end of a negative tweet. Maybe FOX is partially positioning themselves to at least be on the winning side of a new administration.
Trump seems to be more comfortable with One America News Network as his go to for support and conspiracies.

So comfortable that Jared has been looking into acquiring it - then Trump would have admin-controlled media.
I wish I shared your optimism that Trump will be gone. The general sense here is that the rest of America loves him & no matter how low he goes, they go w/him. The expectation is that they'll go w/him in Nov.
I did have to laugh that the arena for the June 20 rally has a 20,000 capacity & his campaign is saying they've registered 300,000 for the event. Perhaps there's an outside rally as well...
Unbelievable. Trump shows respect to the other side in an attempt to be bipartisan and empathetic, and not one ounce of credit from the left.
One earns respect as a human being and actions. Over the last 3 and a half years Trump has not done much to earn respect. One political calculation based upon common sense doesn't fall into the category of respect nor credit.
. . . Trump shows respect to the other side in an attempt to be bipartisan . . .
At least you acknowledge that these concerns are of the other side, completely outside the province and mental grasp of your party - and any action to address social injustice is merely "an attempt to be bipartisan."
Such heartfelt and genuine concern - brings a tear to the eye.
An attempt to appear less racist is now considered an attempt to be more bipartisan. Kind of says it all, doesn't it?
They missed their cue, script here calls for the Redhat chorus line in stars&bars can-can outfits come out for yet another tired refrain of But George Wallace was a Democrat and Byrd was K-K-Kaaay, and Lincoln was a Republican who ended slaveraaay . . .
And then the 1960s happened.
Tony Schwartz, The Art of The Deal ghostwriter:
"People are dispensable and disposable in Trump’s world.”
If Trump is elected President, he warned, “the millions of people who voted for him and believe that he represents their interests will learn what anyone who deals closely with him already knows—that he couldn’t care less about them.”
And Drump's holding a rally they will attend, which is against CDC guidelines, how special of him!
Nuff said.

Maybe it should be called the Covid Rally.
And just heard this. Many hotels in Jacksonville are already booked and maybe not enough hotel rooms available for Trump's Acceptance Speech in August. So they're tossing around the idea of CRUISE SHIPS for the overflow. Sounds like a great party!

This was my idea all along! Have these rallies and the convention on cruise ships. They can pack them with like minded people and all the no mask, social closeness they could ever want. What could possibly go wrong???

Another indication of just how unprofessional anything to do w/Trump is. JAX has been trying to attract a convention center for years & can't get one. Why? A feasibility study for the convention seekers cited “walkability, lack of sufficient hotels, airlift, the need to ‘clean up’ downtown, safety and the overall lack of ‘things to do’ ” as challenges. Also cited was a “lack of restaurants, attractions and retail” and the "need to use the St. Johns River to create an experience unique to the city."
Of course, these attendees are only there to see Trump & won't be shopping, dining, or looking for things to do. Wonder how they'll see Trump if they're stuck on a quarantined cruise ship...

A bit of a read, but oh, so telling.
A bit of a read, but oh, so telling.
Yes, the ghostwriter's story made the rounds in 2016. The latest is The Art of HER Deal by Mary Jordan to be published this week about Melania w/the emphasis on her renegotiating her prenup while she was holed up in Trump Tower in 2017 instead of DC ostensibly waiting for Barron to finish his school year. The problem is Trump doesn't actually have any $$$.

Gee whiz, it certainly seemed acceptable when thousands hit the streets to protest!

That's a great point if you've never watched the news ever. But keep saying it, maybe it will stick.

Meanwhile you had no problem with a Karen protesting alone in a park, white people without masks storming state capitols, and now have no problem with your Applebee's being re-opened to half capacity. Just admit you disagree with the protesters. It's pretty clear.
The party that freed the slaves and fought for civil rights in the 19th century absorbed racist politicians like Strom Thurman 100 years later when a Democratic President passed civil rights legislation and Republican President courted said racists.
fixed that for you.

Finally!...I asked for this type of thing in an earlier post, you know, one of these little allusions to a media link that "substantiates" what you feel is gospel. It appears as though you can not make the connection that Covid19 either spreads through crowds, or it does not. It has zero to do with whether or not it pertains to an event on a cruise ship, a convention hall, a march, a park or a concert. You do not get to pick and choose where a virus will attack and where it won't. And admit it Bob, you are just dying to throw that Racist term at me because my view does not fit your little narrow minded description of what is going on here.
"Just admit you disagree with the protesters. It's pretty clear.
LOL.."Clear to who"?
Dude you are a clown

"white people without masks storming state capitols"...Nice, there it is, the race card. OK, you brought this up, so I guess you are stating that this was some form of protest you disagreed with?...Would that be correct?...Was it not you who stated that non-violent protesters should not be held for the Violent acts of looting, beatings and arson that followed the initial gathering?...Can you provide a link or two where the protests at the State Capitols led to ARSON?...How about a link where the protests at the State capitols led to LOOTING?

You have "fixed nothing"...Gee whiz, that Civil rights act sure fixed that pesky slavery problem, Al Sharpton's call for reparations, the Democrat's constant referencing of the after effects of Slavery as the reason for everything that is wrong today, the creation and support of and the continued half assed attempts to erase the past by the removal of Confederate statues. And the best one, the total turning of a blind eye to the problems in Chicago where black on Black crime far supersedes any other injustice the media chooses to shove down our throats So Yes!.. you have fixed everything!
It appears as though you can not make the connection that Covid19 either spreads through crowds, or it does not.
It certainly does, I've said it every time. Mask help keep an airborne virus from spreading through crowds. You know, like in a hospital? But you cherry pick whatever you want to read.
"white people without masks storming state capitols"...Nice, there it is, the race card. OK, you brought this up, so I guess you are stating that this was some form of protest you disagreed with?...Would that be correct?...
That is a connection you have inserted. They can protest, but put a mask on.
Was it not you who stated that non-violent protesters should not be held for the Violent acts of looting, beatings and arson that followed the initial gathering?...
Held? Like, arrested? I'm not sure what you trying to say here.
Can you provide a link or two where the protests at the State Capitols led to ARSON?...How about a link where the protests at the State capitols led to LOOTING?
Pick one, either we're discussing people protesting safely, with vs. without masks, or we're talking about looters.
And the best one, the total turning of a blind eye to the problems in Chicago where black on Black crime far supersedes any other injustice the media chooses to shove down our throats So Yes!.. you have fixed everything!
Boom. With his own rope.

whatever happened to protesting the proper way? "They" have to either disrespect the flag and ruin our sports to make their point in a "peaceful" manner, by "taking a knee", and offend me personally.
If that form of peaceful protest bothers you, then it is directed at you.
There's that disrespecting the flag stuff again. It's pretty easy to follow Trumpian ways and comingle oppression and police actions with a flag and patriotism. Too easy. And that from the patriot who dodged the draft.
"Just admit you disagree with the protesters. It's pretty clear.
LOL.."Clear to who"?
Pretty much anyone that's read your posts over the last several years. Not that hard of a conclusion to draw.
they get all mad at people who are up front about their motives.
There's an apt quote from Rolling Stone after Charlottesville that pretty much sums it up:
"There is a sad mix of paranoia and inferiority in all these supposedly superior white people. They portray themselves as warriors, but when they are attacked, they are shocked, hurt, afraid."
Brother BIGV, don't be ashamed.....
I am never and far from ever being "ashamed" of any opinion I express on the message board.
Too funny
