This is How Some People Think ...

Just back from getting an oil-change (essential business). While there, a woman (mid 70s) walked in and just started blurting and blathering all sorts of stuff related to the Coronavirus outbreak.
First of all. she feels that this entire disease doesn't even exist. It should be pointed out that she said this while standing as far into the furthest corner of the room as her body would fit. She went on to say that this was a Democratic effort to oust the current POTUS. She praised Rush Limbaugh for being a "God blessed American savior" -even going as far as to suggest that his cancer was likely caused (somehow - she wasn't specific) by his detractors.
I actually attempted to converse in a civil manner. I tried to inject humor whenever possible, and to clearly label my personal thoughts and opinions as such.
Eventually, she blurted out that she never watches television, reads newspapers or patrols the internet. I can only imagine where her "information" comes from.
I couldn't decide to laugh or cry.

There are some diseases worse than Coronavirus.

Some people. I like talking to people here, but we have our crazy ones too.
When I hear people in public saying stupid stuff, I never engage with them, there is just no point...just let them ramble, or like you do Rusty, to break the awkwardness just kind of make a funny comment that hopefully ends the conversation.
What else have people heard? Somebody told me all the airplanes are "removing" the middle seat. I said, 'you mean physically removing the seat, or you mean just not put anyone in the middle seat?' They said oh no, they are taking the seats out. Which isn't true.
How many people have you heard say this "I think I've had Coronavirus already"? Surely some people have, I don't think the ones that are talking to me...about a half dozen...none of whom traveled outside the country or been near a known infected person have told me they thought they had it as long ago as last fall (?) and in January. "I think I already had it". Heard a good bit of that. Also heard, "this thing has been with us since atleast September" (?)
People be crazy.

I'm with you. In normal public situations I don't engage with people like that. If that is the kind of stuff they believe, there is nothing you can say to change their mind. I have some subcontractors who believe some crazy stuff. They do a good job, and as long as I can keep them from interacting significantly with my customers I don't care what they believe. When they start that kind of talk I just let it go for a couple minutes and then change the subject as soon as an opportunity presents itself. I never respond to agree or disagree with them. I think that they think I agree with them, even though I have never given them any indication that I do. Nothing good could come from trying to confront them.

Yup the best thing to do really, with strangers or some coworkers, or customers, etc isn't to talk about, how's it go...politics, religion and there was a third one was it sex or money? Nothing good will come from it in a casual or professional setting where people really aren't prepared or equipped to tolerate another opinion.
Anyway, things get weird. Some people get hung up on stuff. If you run a business and let it be known if you support one party or candidate over another you risk alienating 50% of your customers, or atleast the ones that can't get over the fact some reasonable people have different beliefs than you.
Best just to keep it in, unless you're in the Whipping Post!

She is what makes up a percentage of what's referred to as "The Trump Base".
