@leglizhemp  Starting with Jeff Sessions - though Kemp, Pence and now his own goon squad ... there's a pattern here.  I guess he still lets Rudy hump his leg.  It's gonna be lonely in Mar-a-Lago ... or Rikers Island.

https://www.foxnews.com/politics/capitol-rioters-prison-trump-executive-order-federal

Acting Attorney General Jeffrey Rosen vowed that pro-Trump rioters who entered the U.S. Capitol would "face the full consequences of their actions under the law," and those consequences could include being charged under President Trump's executive order authorizing up to 10 years in prison for "injury of federal property."

The irony!

That's fantastic!  Hopefully they charge every last one of them!

The lady who was shot, Mrs Babbitt, a veteran, put herself in an unlawful and dangerous situation.  She is not innocent.  The other 3 Trump supporters sounds like either died from their own medical conditions (heart attack, stroke) or by the crowd itself (tramped to death).

My sympathy lies with the Capitol Police Officer, Brian Sicknick.  I don't think they have released details exactly of what led to his death yet?

@nebish per npr:

He died around 9:30 p.m. ET Thursday "due to injuries sustained while on-duty," Capitol Police said in a statement.

"Officer Sicknick was responding to the riots on Wednesday, January 6, 2021, at the U.S. Capitol and was injured while physically engaging with protesters," the law enforcement agency said. "He returned to his division office and collapsed."

Officials said he was later transported to a local hospital but did not survive. His death is being investigated by both Capitol Police and the District of Columbia Metropolitan Police Department's Homicide Branch, according to a statement.

I read he may have taken an extinguisher to the head, sounds like a hemorrhage.

There are also reports that one of the fatalities was one of the MAGA stormtroopers accidentally tasing himself until he suffered a heart attack. Not sure if it's true, but wouldn't be surprised.

Wow.  My heart just breaks for the police officer.  I can try and search for this, but I am assuming if it was a fire extinguisher he got hit with, the perpetrator wasn't detained?  Hopefully they have some kind of photo or video to try and find who that was.

How many arrests were made Wednesday?  Like a dozen?  Wow that is crazy low.

Sad news about the Capitol police officer....As said a moment ago, I hope they have some footage of the person who caused his death and he/she is brought to justice.

I just don't get it.  These people, the Trump supporters.  It's one thing to support and even defend your chosen politician of choice.  But the lengths these people have gone to.  I simply do not understand how or why they are at the point that Trump is the person you want to try and start a revolution over.

And these people, where do they go?  They just blend back into society, maybe your coworker or maybe your neighbor, or maybe your cousin or something!  Crazy.

I said this before, it has been suggested that we need more people to engage and care about politics in the United States.  Sometimes, I think we actually need less of it.  You can't really control what people latch onto or what they believe and you can't control the people that create and craft the messages these people are influenced by.  So that is what we are left with.  A bunch of lost souls that want to risk their life for Donald Trump.

These domestic terrorist groups have been around forever, just on the fringes of society.  Unfortunately they’ve grown in size and have been on the radar of law enforcement for several years now.

They latched onto Trump because he claimed to understand their grievances, anger, frustrations, etc...and made all sorts of overt and out in open promises that he’d be their champion.  And so he we are....They’re so easily swayed by him because they’ve bought the con like many other Americans....About 69.9 million other Americans .

We could do with a lot less 24 hour news and social media - I kind of liked it when I didn't know my friends and acquaintances political leanings ...... or didn't have to care.

Unbelievable that this all became a cult with easy to identify signs - MAGA hats, Trump flags, confederate flags, etc.  - never seen anything like it.  I mean I really liked and admired Obama as president - but I wouldn't wear a hat or put a flag out for him - that's supposed to be what the American flag is for - fight for the ideal or country - not the person.

Funny that the same people who scream and complain about a football player taking a knee to protest social injustice carried these other flags and banners and stormed a symbol of our country.

Just sad.

My wife grew up just north of NYC in a town made up of Irish, Italian, and Jewish folks. Lots of cops lived there. She was surprised a few years ago when she and her girlfriends from high school went to a bar that had been there forever and found it had a Nazi shrine.

That's just one example, I'm sure we all have an example whether it's NY, Illinois, or Oregon. They have always been there - everywhere. Silent majority. Trump literally rallied them and we have spent the past 4 years coddling them because they are entitled to their objectively awful and narrow world view.

Media pundits and politicians rile people up in a fury over small potatoes (or complete falsehoods). It doesn't make any sense to be so incredulous over the small differences of opinion. Local politics have so much more affect on our daily lives. Flying flags for a man rather than for country is the antithesis of patriotism. I guarantee these protestors complained about NFL protestors taking a knee as an offense to cops, and now they have engaged in an act of terror that lead to multiple deaths, including a police officer.

If they were so upset about a Biden Presidency, they can wait it out in Federal prison.

We can't blame the media or SM - it's around & isn't going away. What we can do is stop listening to it 24/7. I have no SM accounts, no TV, & read multiple newspapers & journals. I don't engage in political discussions except here & that's less futile arguments than in-person confrontations that many enjoy.

I don't know where civics falls in the education curriculum these days, but clearly it was missed by a lot of people. I heard one woman say yesterday she'd come to DC from another state & found out that it wasn't true that Pence had the authority to do anything - it was just a ceremony & she'd wasted her time on a lie. Maybe. Or maybe she should've been a responsible citizen & known what actually happens on 1/6.

Lindsay Graham: “As a Republican, I don’t support an effort to invoke the 25th Amendment,” he said. “Now if something else happens all options would be on the table."

Cowards. At the urging of Trump, these people stormed the Capitol with weapons and zip ties and killed a police officer. What else needs to happen, Lindsay?

Jeez, Lindsay - how much more does it take? This week wasn't extreme enough?

LG - went from being a Never Trumpster to being one of Trump's fav golf pals and water carriers in the Senate. Stand tall, LG - you are a true patriot and great senator from SC. What a f'ing joke. He should be ashamed everyday that he looks in a mirror.

And yet a group of Trump supporters at the airport heckled and yelled at Graham. The chickens are home to roost now.  Dark times for the Republican Party. They deserve it.

I saw the vid. Oh...the irony. A psychopath prez has amped up the cult with lie after lie after lie & then the cult turns on one of the psychopath's greatest defenders.

Wonder how LG is feeling and thinking now. Wonder if he just wishes the nightmare that he whored himself out to for the last 4 years would just end. Don't worry, Lindsay...a compassionate human being will rescue you in two weeks.

I think Cyclone hit the nail on the head.  Ignorance is the biggest factor it seems and the fact that someone would fly to Washington to protest a process codified in the Constitution then discover there’s nothing to protest says it all.

I also think there is a laziness factor as well. A laziness to learn with multiple and credible sources about candidates and their platforms rather than being spoon fed garbage by various media sources that to any otherwise informed person are pure lies and fabrications.

As far as LG is concerned, just another typical whoring politician who bends to whatever side keeps him in office.  My congressional representative, Elise Stefanik, is of the same mold. She began as a moderate Republican but very quickly changed her colors to suit her own political survival and career trajectory.

UnLike LG, she’s now under significant political pressure from our local media and other Democratic AND Republican moderates in her district for her role in Wednesday’s insurrection...She’s now sparring with Andrew Cuomo who ripped her pretty severely in the press over her actions.

I believe it's a mix of ignorance and selfishness. There is a basic misunderstanding of the way the U.S. system of government and civics works, and how "socialism" has been twisted into a boogeyman as of late.

The guy who had his feet on Pelosi's desk said it was "My capitol", or something to that effect. Well, it's not. It's everyone's capitol, and it was built and paid for long before he started paying taxes.

It's not even Pelosi's desk. It's just hers for now. To think that one has the right to destroy something because they contribute federal tax dollars, along with everyone else, is selfish. Like vandalizing a time share.

The same people who say "it's my tax money" selfishly ignore that it's everyone else's tax money, too. They can vote for people and referendums in the hopes of channeling that money, but once it leaves their pay check it will be redistributed across "society" in the form of roads, buses, schools, teachers, police, etc. Social programs. So every time a politician or pundit warms of the dangers of "socialism" these people are too ignorant to realize we always have been. Even Trump campaigned to improve the country's infrastructure - that's socialism, buddy. And they have become so enraged about it they are literally willing to die on that hill.

I agree...Too much selfishness and lack of understanding that we all own a small slice of our republic.

Regarding the misappropriation and misunderstanding of the word “socialism,” we’ve discussed it repeatedly with several of the now absent Trumpers who either conveniently ignored the definition of it or refused to admit they themselves benefit from it.....In those discussions I noticed there was a pretty obvious lack of understanding about what it is and how long it’s been integrated into our capitalistic system.

These people and others have been so twisted and misinformed by certain media pundits, politicians, etc. that they have no idea they’re being manipulated.  I see the same thing occurring now with the word “disenfranchised.”  Some of the people now claiming the election was stolen are characterizing themselves as “disenfranchised” because their chosen candidate lost.

That’s NOT disenfranchisement.....You voted, it was counted properly...Your candidate lost.  Simple as that. The right wing is now attempting to manipulate supporters further with the same usurping of labels and words....At the same time they are actively engaging in actual disenfranchisement by continuing to suppress voting in states nationwide.  And the ignorant, lazy, selfish flock take the bait...

There is ignorance then there is stupidity ... then there is stoopidity.

Ignorance is simply not knowing better - being uneducated and uniformed to the truth.

Stupidity is having an inkling as to what might be the truth but acting on feelings and desires that are closer to what you wish was the truth.

Stoopidity - a bastardized form of the root word (stupidity) but taken to illogical extreme.  In the present case, this involves justifying feelings or thoughts that might be so buried in hatred and - especially in racism and acting out to the point of getting on a plane, driving a great distance to be a part of a parade of like-minded types ... all the way up to creating a public scene of mayhem and destruction of PUBLIC property and space and attempting to justify it because as a taxpayer, you "own" a very, very thin sliver of a slice of it.

I can't let any of the perpetrators of last Wednesdays display off the hook due to simple ignorance.

Peace.

R

Well said, Rusty....I hope more and more people feel the same about not letting these people off the hook.  Especially Trump, his family, Rudy, etc...

As I watched more video footage of the insurrection this morning, I became even more disgusted watching scenes of the mob and the ruthlessness with which they attacked the capitol police, searched for people they  clearly wanted to hurt or even kill.  My hope is that as more people see how horrific this was, they’ll demand some justice.  Primarily for the president and his closest allies who set this all in motion or at the least enabled it.

Same feeling here, the more video I watched the more angry I got with these people...rioters spraying pepper spray at the police!  And I felt the same way this summer with the social injustice protests...any of these people engaging in destructive and violent behavior have no place in our society and should be charged and when applicable imprisoned.  I simply have zero tolerance for any of it.  Our country and political system would be so much better without radical fringe thug terroristic people and beliefs.  But they will remain unfortunately.  I am just so glad that these Trump people are easily recognizable and were stupid enough to gloat and post about what they were doing on their own social media.

How about the people at airports and on airplanes?  Chanting and partying like they were going to a sports game!  Long long ago Bhawk labeled the political atmosphere as the blue team vs the red team, and like drunk rabid football or soccer fans, they were ready to fight it out in the name of their favorite team.  WTF

You have all assessed who these people are, what they believe in and why.  I don't know what % of the 74 million Trump voters make up those people, I think it's the minority, but there are still a whole bunch of them.  If anything good came of this event maybe it's that it brought some of them out into the daylight and they can now be prosecuted for what they did since they can't be charged simply for who they are.

@nebish same here, but we only saw the true levels of carnage and destruction in the days after it went down. On Weds, most of the footage was from a distance and it looked like a rally that got out of hand, like a bad Black Friday at Target.

Since then we've seen the video from inside as the crowd violently pushed its way through helpless security. Not only did they destroy walls and windows, they brought guns, explosives, zip ties (!!!), spread urine and feces (talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face), and they killed a cop. A lot of people I know assumed the protesters just got overly excited and the crowd's hive mind took over, but it's clear these people arrived ready with something in mind and the police were right to use deadly force.

I'm glad they are disrupting their means of communication - the Constitution does not protect speech made on a private website, especially when it is conspiring to violently overthrow of the government. I'm hoping our intelligence will be monitoring the chatter going forward, because who knows how this will embolden these basement Benedict Arnolds.

The most chilling vision for me is the noose & frame made to "Hang Pence" constructed & waiting should he have been found. As VP, he had a higher level of protection & had been secured. There's no conclusion to be drawn other than murderous intent.
