The Most Idiotic Piece of Police Work I Have Ever Heard Of
I was watching this new show last night called "Very Scary People" and the subject this week was Charles Manson.
After the Tate and LaBianca murders occurred, they showed a clip of an LAPD detective being interviewed not long after. He said, "There is no connection between the two crimes. The Tate and LaBianca murders are completely unrelated."
WOW. I have never heard ANYTHING in my entire long life come out of a law enforcement professional's mouth that was quite so flat out STUPID!!
Look at the facts: The murders occurred on consecutive nights. The two homes were within 10 miles of each other. At the Tate home, the word "PIG" was scrawled in blood on the front door. At the LaBianca home, the phrase "Death To Piggies" was scrawled in blood on the living room wall.
Yet there in this clip is an LAPD detective saying that they are certain that there is absolutely NO connection between the two crimes. I am in shock and disbelief. Did the LAPD have a policy back in 1969, "We only hire complete idiots?"
If you're wondering, yes, commentators in the documentary mentioned this and were in amazement like I am.
Had they caught anyone yet? All I know about detective stuff is from movies, but a common tactic seemed to be to release disinfo and act like they have no leads, so the suspect doesn't go to ground. Or like you said, he was an idiot. Either way they caught up with them pretty fast so whatever, got the job done.
Either way they caught up with them pretty fast so whatever, got the job done.
Several months later they still had NO leads. The only way it was solved was that the Manson clan landed in jail for car theft. Susan Atkins told another female inmate, "You know who committed the murders?" "No" "You're looking at her."
Lucky break. Like I said, in a case as tough as that, maybe playing dumb is a public disinfo tactic. Or not. Who knows. Glad I didn't have to see that stuff first hand, the cops did their job, no reason at all to bag on them half a century later. They caught Manson.
OR DID THEY? So this below is from a Manson interview in 1989, his response to the question "Who are you"? Beyond coincidence?

I watched a documentary about Steve McQueen. His wife at the time stated he was supposed to be at the party that night but didn't feel well or figured his wife was in the know on his admiration of Sharon Tate.
