Masks with valves do not stop the spread of the coronavirus and should not be used, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

"Masks with exhalation valves or vents should NOT be worn to help prevent the person wearing the mask from spreading COVID-19 to others," the CDC's website reads after it added a section on mask guidance on Aug. 7.

This story is everywhere...If these masks don't work, what does a bandanna accomplish?

Research the issue...at least a little MORE.... https://www.cnbc.com/2020/08/11/study-bandanas-and-neck-gaiters-not-effective-as-surgical-face-masks.html

This is a super easy one, V, the CDC clearly explained it.

An exhalation valve or vent is a sieve, a cloth mask is a complete covering. The same reason you don't poke holes in condoms.

Or go ask a nurse why they've worn complete masks for over a century and not a mask with a hole in the mouth.

I have a pretty low level of confidence in our average Americans to keep up on this kind of stuff. How many people that are already wearing the vented masks are going to hear or read this and now stop and buy a different mask? How about the neck gators that actually spread more particles than an uncovered mouth (because the material breaks larger drops up smaller and allow them to create a longer traveling mist).

Masks. Wear 'em if you got 'em. I wear double layer cotton type masks. What other people do or don't wear I can't control and don't even really care that much.

Depends on where I'm going and what I'm doing.
Grocery store, full multi layer cloth or KN-95 type. Stopping to pick up an order, 4 layer disposable.
Talking to a neighbor, stand several feet apart (outside) and a standard dust/filter mask.
The valve masks are only good for working around hazardous chemicals and heavy dust. The valve allows you to exhale easier, doesn't do anything for filtration.

The gaiter controversy was already debunked by the author of the study.

The public should "absolutely not" use this as evidence that neck gaiters are worse than wearing no mask at all, Fischer said. "We tested one mask because we just had that mask lying around … there are plenty of other gaiters out there," some that could be more protective, he said. Even the way people wear them can change how protective they are, he added.

Thanks, but once again, I was being sarcastic
