I've never given the IRS bank account information and don't want to do that now, so I'll have to wait and see how long a check takes. Maybe I'll try the IRS tracking system.

Good luck.

If you can get through you'll most likely get the IRS version of Magic 8 Ball.

Problems?

Glitches prevent $1,200 stimulus checks from reaching millions of Americans

Several million people who filed their taxes via H&R Block, TurboTax and other popular services were unable to get their payments. Some parents reported they didn’t get the $500 promised for their dependent children.

Got it.
Direct deposit.

I'm surprised you'd even accept your free government handout.

Why are the lefties so afraid of the IRS?

Who said they were afraid? However, it is a fact that middle- and lower-class are more often audited because they can't afford lawyers to defend themselves from the IRS.

However, nebish, if the IRS wanted to withdraw money from your bank account, they can find it.

You are obviously confused.
Handouts are what Democrats do to buy votes.

Nope, not quite, but enjoy your socially re-distributed wealth, Federal tax bail out Pelosi bucks while you're unemployed!

As an accountant I've had to deal with the IRS for a long time, on both personal and professional levels. I've had good and bad experiences with them. I realize a lot of people detest them but they are doing what they are supposed to do. Kind of like a sports official / referee making a call. You might think the call sucks but they are doing what they were told to do.

Regarding lawyers, pretty sure most issues would not need legal counsel. The amounts for lower income people wouldn't make it worthwhile for either party. Immaterial.

The people that work at the IRS are VERY good at what they do. Sometimes that sucks but they are very detailed. The frustrating thing I have run across is finding out who makes decisions. I have never been able to get answers to questions. But the grunt people if you will, do what they are supposed to.

Regarding direct deposit, I wouldn't worry about that. You are better off doing things electronically. WAY quicker. I don't think there is anything to be worried about. And if you are worried about them doing something regarding your check, the only thing that will affect the amount you get is if you owe child support. They will reduce your receipt if you owe anything. So I guess I'm saying they probably know everything about you anyway so I would do things electronically myself.

As to when people receive their funds, from what I have read is it is based on your income. Lower incomes get their's first. It's on a tiered system. They are pretty good about processing transactions.

I don't think this should have anything to do with politics. And oh by the way, I am still waiting to hear from them regarding my 2019 refund.

😉

Reading through this, does it want to send money to people even if they are still employed during this time?

That is one valid criticism of the $1200 checks under CARES that everyone who qualifies by income gets the money...whether their employment status has been disrupted or not. One of my friends is working more hours than ever, getting a raise and a bonus, yet he will still get a $1200 check. Good for him...bad for us...I guess?

At some point, maybe it just doesn't matter...trillions, trillions of new spending and debt. Unprecedented times call for unprecedented measures right - but, why are people who are still working as are millions of Americans as they were pre-corona outbreak getting money? Shouldn't there be some financial restraint to only assist those negatively impacted with job loss and disruption?

And then I have to wonder...how long can we actually "afford" to do all this stuff until we just sink the whole thing? I know, damned if you do, damned if you don't.

It brings up bigger issues like living wages are different in different parts of the country. Some people work 40 hour minimum wage jobs and survive so that $1200 will cover them for being out of work for a month, but not most places. Minimum wage to survive in metro NY is $26 per hour everyone making less than that struggles including the fast food workers who ask for $15 per hour.

After this corona crisis is over the unpaid rents etc. Will come back to create more homelessness because evictions have just been stayed/held back for 90 days. Nobody has extra money to make payments towards back rent even over the course of a year as some have suggested as a way to handle it.

You missed the article on the guardian where Omar wants the federal government to pick up the rent/mortgage tab until the crisis is over?

Never seen a Democrat put his name on the check.

Anyway, I don't get a check. Enjoy your socialist redistribution of wealth to those who get one.

Yes everybody employed or not gets $2,000 a month under the proposal that has not passed yet. That pays rent and car and insurance, food, and other essentials like electric, cable. Employers cut work forces 50 then 75 percent. Hours reduced etc.

As to those who do not want to work, give them $2,000 anyway . Those who want to work will have that plus more money from working and can fund their own retirement, maybe even buy health insurance. Welfare doesn't pay a living subsistence. The $2,000 a month could help end homelessness if combined with small houses or affordable apartments. It is either that or eugenics and killing poor people to get them out of the way.

As to the illegals, send them back. Bus them back or accept the reality of sanctuary cities. Keeping them as prisoners is not a viable strategy.

There should also be an overhaul of unemployment insurance law. Make it no-fault like car insurance doesn't matter whose fault it was. If you lose your job you collect. If you quit to find something better, you collect. If they let you go, you collect. Stop harassing people. Raise the weekly benefit indexed to local rent prices. Everyone in a particular area gets the same amount, employers pay a portion of it based on wages earned, and payroll taxes fund it. This wait 5 weeks for 1/3 of your normal wage just doesn't work. Fix this broken system.

I noticed it but I doubt she can get that part passed. The Mayor of NYC wants the rent stabilization board to not raise rents on the 2 million apartments the city has. Legislators understand the reality of housing issues.

I pop in once in a while and enjoy reading the political discussions. Surprised no one has mentioned the $1.7 million dollar stimulus checks to the wealthy ... https://www.forbes.com/sites/shaharziv/2020/04/14/why-are-rich-americans-getting-17-million-stimulus-checks/#5da90739665b

or the tax breaks .. https://www.foxbusiness.com/money/tax-change-in-coronavirus-stimulus-package-overwhelmingly-benefits-millionaires

The Congress and Senate get $57,000 pay raises also.

We have a class system based on income. Face it. The poor always get less, the rich get more.

I made a little over $100.000 and I got nothing ...

80,000,000 checks at $1200 is 96 billion dollars .. add that to a 90 billion tax bailout plus
all the bailouts in this bill .. they could have doubled the payouts or given the money to
more small businesses instead it goes to people that don't need it
