I don't think Biden (or anyone else) is going to do anything except try to get the pandemic slowed in the US and fix the after shocks of closings, re-openings, & re-closings. If he has time left over, he can try to win back some of our former allies. That's about the most Trump's successor whether its 2020 or 2024 can do.

It's pretty evident that a federal solution and guidance is basically AWOL for the Covid response. The utter failure is evident. Numbers (which Trump lives by) don't lie. If Joe can federalize that and provide top down guidance & approaches, then that will be a good start.
I think one thing Biden could do if the Dems take the Senate is improve and reform the Affordable Care Act. It’s become far more popular these many years later despite Mitch and Caligula’s best efforts to destroy it. It’s a very big issue that Biden and the Dems in general could and should concentrate on moving into the final months of the election.
A good start at reform is raising the allowable income threshold for subsidies and increasing the actual amount of subsidy. Also, they need to tackle the costs of prescription meds. by finally allowing Medicare, Medicaid, to negotiate and cap the costs of drugs.
Beyond repairing the damage Trump inflicted to the environment, the reputation and standing in the world of the United States, and rebuilding our alliances, improved access to an improved ObamaCare program would be a great achievement.

Just the word "healthcare" is like waving a red flag in front of a bull so I don't know that I'd make it a key strategy point. I think it will be a natural part of sorting out the havoc Covid19 has wreaked on former 2-income families, former employed people who'll lose the extra unemployment $600 that might pay for healthcare at the end of the month, and middle incomers who don't qualify for Medicaid. What will be glaring is the direct costs of testing & treating Covid19 to patients, hospitals, and municipalities.
I don’t know about that Cyclone. Healthcare for most of the electorate is a very important issue. Polling and research consistently indicates it’s right behind the economy as an issue voters consider when choosing who to vote for.
As you said it’s a natural fit with Trump’s incredible failure of a Covid response as well as his most recent attempt to once again destroy Obama Care in the middle of the pandemic.
Seems to me every Dem on any ticket in November should be reminding their constituents of this at every opportunity as well as offering actual specific solutions as to how to improve the Affordable Care act.

Health Insurance has become a bigger disaster as the ACA has gotten peeled back, which itself only plugged a few holes (but it was at least an effort). There has to be some realistic options - my wife works for a national company and it would have cost me $500/month to be added to her insurance. $6K/year isn't sustainable for a person, and it's not like there aren't models out there, it's not a nut that needs to be cracked. The problem are the health insurance companies that don't want to give up the massive profits they've been able to bloat over the years while nurses working double shifts can barely afford a 1 bedroom apartment.

A lot of things we wanted changed when we were the "New Voting Public" in the late 60's and early 70's has come about slowly, but they got here. Clean air, water, and the threat of nuclear death have mostly been taken care of, except in those "enlightened" areas as China, Vietnam, and some former Socialist Utopias.
To us communism and socialism meant the same thing-the community owns everything, you own nothing. You do as we say and be glad we let you live to do so. Speak out and you go away. Work against us, you and your family no longer exist.

I don’t discount Biden staying on the down low as much as possible, but when he has to he should certainly speak to what he and his administration will do to improve the Affordable Care Act and tie it into Trump and McConnell’s numerous and recent efforts to simply tear it up without any replacement. Especially during a pandemic!
I think it’s a winning strategy as it speaks to the public’s concern about healthcare in general and Trump’s ineptness and carelessness during a pandemic specifically. I came on here in 2018 & said that the midterms of 2018 would be a precursor for 2020. To me that anti Trump sentiment and turnout in those elections and the results portended what would repeat. The 2018 midterms brought out significant segments of the population voting blocks, and these sectors showed their disdain for Trump in large numbers. If anything, the disdain has only grown. The Covid failed leadership, his blatant racism, and being so out of touch on the aftermath of George Floyd & others will only make the election results that much larger for Biden.
The irony is that Barr's corruption at the DOJ and the GOP Senators have protected and saved Trump on too many occasions. He finally met his match with a pandemic, and even his lies and failures on this are no match for Covid.

Will she be a moderate centrist or a radical lefty who wants to blow up Mt. Probably health care, energy, banking and transportation will be nationalized. Perhaps transportation would survive and Greyhound and Delta Airlines will still exist but they would be heavily regulated especially when it comes to emissions.

They worry Trump will have Biden so confused and frustrated that it will alarm the voters. I don't think there should be debates. No one is going to learn anything new. Trump will go off on "I'm the greatest" no matter what the topic & Biden, who is a smart & experienced man, can't engage him. Really, who CAN have a reasonable 2 minute conversation w/Trump? Even w/Tucker C throwing him softballs, Trump was just riffing off the walls making no sense yesterday. I'd rather have each one make an on-camera presentation of what they plan to do in the next 4 years (so far, Trump has failed to answer that question) w/no Q&A.
I don't think Biden's running mate matters. Whoever it is isn't going to be king should they become president. They're not going to press ahead w/any agenda any faster than Trump built a wall. I've read some interesting psychiatric & neurological analyses after Trump's bragging about acing a 30-question mental cognitive test that essentially concluded 1) Trump has cognition in that he's oriented to date, time, place & aware of what's going on and 2) he lacks the decision-making capacity to create solutions. I think that's fair. He's never had #2 and has made his way thru life blaming, screaming, litigating, bribing, and firing - the same thing he's done in the WH. Biden is a low-key guy who analyzes & strategizes well. Whether he can articulate that or not now is questionable. Still, Biden would rely on Congress & the drafters of legislation to get things done.

Energy, transportation, healthcare and many other components of our economy are already socialized....They all are subsidized and paid for by taxpayers to varying degrees....When we give big oil tax breaks, or the federal govt gives a monetary incentive to build a nuclear power plant, or we build, at tax payers expense, a transmission line across upstate, NY to bring power to New Jersey from the massive dam in Massena, NY....It’s a form of socialism...

We will see who Biden picks as VP. Biden will not finish his first term. If he picks a moderate, then gasoline will not be outlawed by 2030 as Sanders and AOC want. Biden's climate plan is zero emissions by 2050 and no mention of outlawing gasoline, diesel fuel and Beef cattle. I spent a hour reading his website last night. Hopefully the socialists will not get on the ticket!!

We’ve had forms of socialism intermixed with capitalism since our inception as a republic...A militia is a form of socialism, the army George Washington led in the Revolutionary war was a form of socialism, the toll paid to the State of New York to transport goods on the Erie Canal In the early 1800’s is socialism.
In my opinion the real issue is how much socialism should we incorporate into the American form of capitalism at any given time in history depending upon the circumstance. This is an issue of nuance and not simply a yes or no answer....Which is why the populace is so easily swayed into one corner or the other.
The lack of nuance in actual discussion on the topic is exactly why pundits, politicians, talking heads on Fox News and other right wing media outlets, etc. can so easily make socialism an evil word. Toss in the fact that many Americans still don’t grasp the difference between socialism and communism and it’s no wonder half the populace doesn’t grasp that we already rely on socialism on some level to maintain the American economy.

blackey - You keep repeating through posts that Biden will not finish his first term. Please share with us your medical background or your insight into documentation to support this. I'd be fascinated to know the level of your insight. If it's just some hunch you have, then that's another thing.

I've been saying since the topic of Dem nominees arose that I thought Warren, Biden, & Sanders were TOO OLD to run. I still think that - partly because of physical health & partly because they're far removed from the issues of average Americans.
According to the Social Security Life Expectancy Calculator, Biden is expected to live to be 87.7 yrs based solely on his age & birth date & excluding his race, health, income, & family medical history. So, he could conceivably finish 2 terms. Trump is surprisingly expected to live to be 86.4 years based on the same input.
These are actuarial numbers w/little real meaning, but Biden is perceived to be "old." Maybe he appears fragile compared to the bombastic obese spray tanned Trump, but a better comparison is Mitch McConnell who is 77 who could be hiding any mental diminishment he has behind a straight "Trump is always right" mantra. I'm not a doctor, but not everyone has dementia as we age - it is not considered a normal brain function as part of aging.
We can't predict when anyone is going to die. I don't really care who the VP nominee of either party is because I contend that we are going to be dealing w/Covid19 - which is getting worse by the second - & its aftermath for the entire next term in office. Very little beyond keeping people alive & working is going to be about the only thing that is accomplished (defense is second).
We need to STOP BUYING INTO the idea that a president is king whose orders are followed. That's Trump's delusion. It's not how this country works. Whoever is the next president will be checked by Congress & SCOTUS & will refrain from absurd Executive Orders (remember his 1st weekend as president when he completely shut down global air traffic by banning Muslims from entering the US????), actually be briefed by experts, compromise, & keep a steady hand on government.

Democratic advisors know this and a few are advising him to be the first candidate in modern history to be the first to refuse to debate. One such advisor on CNN just a few nights ago was so worried Trump will roll Biden in the three dabates he wants the Democrates to insist the press be allowed to field a group of fact checkers on the stage with Trump and Biden and can cut Trump off when they catch him in a lie. He also is advising Biden that he can use Trump's taxes and a legitimate way of getting out of the debates. You release your taxes and I'll debate.
Yes the Democratic party fears the debates. They feel the less Biden says and the more he stays in his basement, the better he does in the polls.

Trump is 74 or so. Get no exercise but golf, has higher cholesterol readings and loves fast food. Trump even served fast food to a sports team that came to the White House.
