The weekend is winding down and The Great Negotiator met with no members of Congress about the shutdown.

What a leader!

Sad - no golf today. He couldn't make it to one of his properties this weekend to make $$$$ off of the Presidency. That sucks for capitalism.

Schumer and The Democrats voted against funding the Federal Government by insisting on blanket amnesty for millions of illegal aliens.

Well, at least we know what Mule's tagline will be for the next few days - and he'll keep doing it even though everyone here will tell him it's a lie.... nobody asked for blanket amnesty for anyone..... let the trolling begin! 😛 Grin

I think it is pretty funny that Trump said if they want DACA passed, he wants his BUILD THE WALL approved by these Democratic holdouts. Trump doesn't back down to those who want to play hardball.

That wall will never be built. Besides, I thought Mexico was going to pay for it. Don't you remember when he said "believe me"?

If he can get Mexico to pay for it, then he can have his rediculous wall. He promised Mexico would pay for it, so he needs to have Mexico pay for it (not US taxpayers in any form). Why aren't his supporters angry at him for breaking his promise to have Mexico pay for the wall? That was his #1 campaign promise.

They've forgotten about Mexico paying for the wall. They've moved onto the next tweet. Remember...you can't take Trump's words literally. That's just Trump being Trump. Not a big deal 'cause he & the 30 some percent are making America Great Again. The other approximately 60 + percent don't matter anyway.

I don't know man. Trump was furious with Kelly a few days ago for saying on Fox News that Trump’s views on the wall were evolving. Not sure Trump knows what he wants, but he knows Mexico ain't paying for anything.

Trump fans sure loved his idea when Mexico was paying for it, but they don't seem to care that that promise was broken. I guess as long as Trump continues to show his dislike for people from non-white countries they will continue to worship him. In fact, even showing contempt for non-white parts of the US, such as Puerto Rico, seems to make his base happy.

To say Mexico was going to pay for the wall was a ridiculous claim, the type that could only be made by a candidate who didn't think he could actually win an election.

Mexico was never going to pay for that wall directly. Anyone who believed it is irrational.

That is not the first time I've said those things.

I don't know where the "blanket amnesty" line is coming from. Perhaps they mean that granting DACA illegal immigrants legals status would then also apply to their family members. So we aren't talking about just 700,000-800,000 people who came here as children, we are talking about a much larger number. I'm just trying to offer some reasoning since some people here do not reply to specific questions posed to them. Naturally we'd be better off if posters were willing to explain in further detail their points and positions with followups.

But those details on who exactly gets legal status gets worked out in the negotiating process....something that only a select number of Senators have been willing to do.

Personally, I don't know why DACA has to be linked to an extension to fund the government, but both sides play the game.

The Senate Democrats are refusing to pass the budget already passed in The House to open the Federal Government.

The Democrats are insisting that the DAC matter be resolved and using their demand for blanket amnesty for millions of illegal aliens to hold the country hostage to their political agenda. The left of course does not mention that they have offered no legislation to resolve the illegal immigration issue.

The Democrats voice no problem with the budget. They simply want their political agenda.

There definitely is a agenda...there almost always is. I believe the Democrats have no "problem" with what is in the Continuing Resolution. If we were actually talking about a budget, there would be alot of "problems".

Not according to your leaders there son.

We are talking about the only issue on the table and that is the budget, aka funding the government.

The loser lefties insist on blanket amnesty for millions of illegal aliens or a denial of security and services for The American People.

Democrats cave to pressure from The American People:

The Senate on Monday voted 81-18 to break a Democratic filibuster on a government spending bill, clearing the way for Congress to approve the stopgap measure and end the three-day government shutdown.

Once again, you missed the big picture. The government will be funded through Feb 8. In exchange for that, McConnell promised to open debate on DACA. This is something he promised before and the refused to do. If he fails this time, expect a government shutdown in Feb. and, we all know, McoConnel is a liar, so...

He still has plenty of time to get the wall financed, and even now there are companies working on the prototypes. Though I am beginning to think maybe we don't want the wall. What if WE need to get out, the wall could keep us in. Look at Arizona and Alabama epidemic/pandemic flu, when the hospitals are overloaded, they have to send those bodies someplace else to quarantine them don't they? Fema camps. We might very well want to get out of a country with pandemic illnesses, so maybe we need to rethink the wall. Jesse Ventura moved out and lives across the border in Mexico quite awhile back.

Now that's a laugh! Who exactly would you say are my leaders? I voted for the same President you did, but we are quite different. I call things like I see it and try cast a different light on things. You on the other hand are blinded by Republican propaganda.

Far left Democrats are not happy Senate leadership caved and allowed the CR vote to take the floor.

Progressives fume after vote to end government shutdown
https://www.cnn.com/2018/01/22/politics/progressive-senate-democrats-government-shutdown/index.html

"Today's cave by Senate Democrats -- led by weak-kneed, right-of-center Democrats -- is why people don't believe the Democratic Party stands for anything. These weak Democrats hurt the party brand for everyone and make it harder to elect Democrats everywhere in 2018," said Stephanie Taylor, the co-founder of the Progressive Change Campaign Committee, which represents what it calls the "Elizabeth Warren wing" of the party.
"It's official: Chuck Schumer is the worst negotiator in Washington -- even worse than Trump," said CREDO political director Murshed Zaheed.
Zaheed said Schumer was "outmaneuvered" by McConnell and "failed Dreamers and let the entire Democratic Party down."

During a House Democratic Caucus meeting, Congressional Black Caucus Chairman Cedric Richmond of Louisiana blamed Schumer for making the whole debate about immigration, according to one Democrat in the meeting, saying about Senate Democrats, "They are getting their butts kicked."

Politics. Sometimes I just ask myself why to I want to care about this stuff.

Bingo. I said this here the day the issue came up. The original propaganda for the Berlin Wall was that it was to keep enemies out.

Either way . . . All in all it's just another brick in the wall

Not sure why you are worrying about this. You can use the same ladders and tunnels the Mexicans will be using. The wall shouldn't slow you down much.

Schumer got CHIP reinstated, a promise of a vote on DACA and no money allocated for the wall.

The Republicans got the government opened for 3 weeks. If they don't keep their promises, the government may be shut down again.

Trump had his weekend in Mar-a-Lago ruined. For all of the good he did, he should have gone there.
😛

Edit: I guess I should add that Trump, the Great Negotiator, is useless in a crisis.

If the Senate had just voted for cloture Friday night and put the CR from the House on the floor for a vote CHIP would've been reinstated without money for a wall. That was already the way it was from the House, nobody did that today for today's vote. Bunch of wasted time from people who are good at wasting time. So all 'they' got out of this was a promise to vote for DACA, and are we talking just DACA kids, or all DREAMers. And are we talking about the status of the parents that brought them here and then family reunification ability for other people not currently in the country? They going to go into regular order with committee, markups, amendments and everything? Wonder what that thing is going to look like? But they should vote on it. Put a bill together and put it to the floor for up or down votes. 'They' had to shut the government down for that?

Wasn't too worried about it, but that's good advice. Probably just balloon across at night. The road to Acapulco is very hard indeed.

The fact that mule boy & glueber think both sides agreeing to have talks on immigration to keep the govt. open for 3 more weeks!, is some kind of victory for trump and his lackey's, is pretty laughable. 😛 YOU are both uninformed and ignorant as usual. 😛

Interesting that some here think that kicking the can down the road 3 weeks is a massive victory for Trump. I certainly don't want government shutdowns, but we will be in the exact same place again in 3 weeks if the Democrats and Republicans don't negotiate in good faith. Declaring a 3 week extension some kind of major political victory is kind of silly.
