Never know until she does go back and ask those questions, will we?
Ignorant fool. Get an education already.
Your reading comprehension is still atrocious, or do you just like to knee jerk post to see if you can get a reaction?
I think you need to go back to third grade, or find a third grade teacher to tutor you in comprehensive reading.
You used to be, or seemed to be one of the more intelligent posters here, but now I'm having to re-think my assessment of your intelligence.
Might be you are like me and have an injury and are posting under the "cloud of Morpheus" once in a while. Could be you have a problem at home and are taking out your frustrations on other posters. could be that you need help with mental issues.
I don't know if any of this is a problem for you since it is nothing of my business, but I do wonder what has happened to you.
Question: did you read the entire post before you responded?

Your personal attacks here seem sorta Hitlerian. I just read that somewhere.
Also PorkChob, do you remember what was going on around you at 4 years of age. I doubt anyone really remembers anything going on when they are at that age, they just remember second hand knowledge.
How could one forget? My father-in-law's family was kicked out of Egypt when he was young, he has not forgotten decades later. Bill Graham was young when he fled Europe, it was something he never forgot.
Which country is she fighting for? US or Somalia?
That you think to ask is kind of the problem and reveals your ignorant prejudice. You can't have it both ways, either she doesn't remember fleeing war and grew up as a proud American, or she remembers the horrors of her youth fleeing her country.
You used to be, or seemed to be one of the more intelligent posters here, but now I'm having to re-think my assessment of your intelligence.
Jerry it seems you still might have me mistaken for another poster, ever since I posted about Melania Trump. I haven't really been part of this argument
Okay, I think Jerry was directing some his retorts to me, and the reason I did not respond as quickly as he wanted was that I have been away from home visiting my wife's 98-year-old grandmother for the weekend... not because I felt "schooled".
Jerry, all the Melania Trump references were in posts before your initial post - the ones after were trying to help you "get" the "Mattel" joke, so get off of the reading comprehension soapbox.
And yes, I agree with the poster who said that it is disgustingly patronizing to infer That Ilhan Omar does not understand why her family left Somalia, today as an adult, whether or not she had a full grasp of it when she was a child. You don't think that she would want to know and understand? Why would she be incapable of knowing these things?
Also, when has she said, "This is how things are done in Somalia, so that's how they should be done in America."? Come on, man... you're taking the bait form Trump a little too easily.
Look, Trump just can't resist the fight when it is against a person that checks all the boxes of what the racist chunk of his base would hate the most: non-white, non-male, non-christian, non-native, etc.
And... what do you think the consequences of "speaking radically" are? You never answered that one.

how old were they when they left their home lands?
As for the second part. you obviously didn't read what was posted.
how old were they when they left their home lands?
Here's the problem, no one wants to do their own home work any more. If you were actually curious and hadn't formed a prejudiced opinion, you would look this up yourself.
Sometime in the spring I watched a documentary on the rise of Mussolini. The similarities are scary.

I guess we are going to have to start putting in "Quote from abcdefg" to keep things straight since some of this gets a little confusing when the quote may be from a post quoted from another poster.
Many of my later posts were in response to SkyDog
When did anybody say This is how things are done in Somalia?
I'm glad you said "chunk of his base" since not all of his supporters are racist. Some support him only due to their distrust of Dems and/or Clinton.
A 4 year old would not have the understanding of why something is happening, just knowing that changes have taken place. She would know second hand of what happened, that's why I said "send her back to where her family was from for a short period of time". Later, since some posters couldn't grasp what I was saying, I fleshed it out a little with "As a US Rep, she would have the backing to ask questions-pointed questions-as to why there are still reasons why Somali citizens feel the need to leave their country."
I guess some folks still don't understand-due to their racist thinking about anyone who doesn't come out and swear a blood oath to their point of view. They just knee-jerk answers to those who don't seem to support their anointed ones. (Note: Thar is an observation, not a personal attack. and not directed to you adhill.)
Most importantly, how is you grand-mother-in-law doing?

Ok, let me do some homework.
Bill Graham was born in Russia, sent to a Berlin orphanage along with his younger sister. They went to a French orphanage (Bill was 8 years old) and they were part of a group later called One Thousand Children who were emigrated to the US. He was accepted in a foster home at age 10.
His father died 2 days after he was born, his mother died in Auschwitz, his sister died on the boat to the US.
His older sisters Rita, Evelyn, Sonia, and and Ester survived the Holocaust.
He was called Wolfgang when he was young, so thus the name of "Wolfgang's Vault".
What was/is your father-in- laws full name. Can't look it up if I don't know his name.

My apologies for the personal insults. I went over the line. it just burns me up to see the president of the united states verbally abuse american women, who by nature are in a weaker position than he is (as is everyone). it saddens me that our country has come to this. look at the character of every president who has come before him and compare it to what we see and hear from him on a daily basis. it's simply a huge black eye on united states history. and it saddens me to see all the cowards in our country play the scapegoat game and hire him to do their dirty deeds. even the most conservative business owners i know wouldn't allow behavior like his in their place of business. they'd be fired and thrown out immediately...yet somehow it's acceptable for president of the united states. when pressed for an explanation, they cry obama this, obama that, as if they are somehow comparable. he's convinced conservatives that its ok for the president to behave like a court jester because a court jester made fun of him. "the court jester did it so why can't i?" and it seems like half the country says "yeah!! if rappers can do it then why can't Trump?" obama was so bad that the right needed to hire a thug to beat up Democrats? the end result is a president who has consistently attacked and abused countless americans and countless american institutions for about 4 years straight now.
the only reason people like trump is because he abuses people that they also don't like nothing more nothing less. policy my a$$. if a trump supporter would for once show some stinkin sincerity and honesty instead of disguising their message in code, like cowards, maybe they'd get an ounce of respect from the other side.
[Edited on 7/21/2019 by Skydog32103]
Didn't think they were personal attacks, just knee-jerk reactions like I've seen a lot of happening lately when people don't actually read the posts, they just see what they want to see.
I didn't like the coward responses, but then again, nothing I haven't seen before.
Ya gotta remember I was a principle in the Fence Fund Mafia and look at all the abuse we got back then.
We have got to tone down the sometimes viscous responses to posters. We've lost too many good people here on both sides of the "debates" because of the way some others respond to their posts and the cyber-bullying that sometimes came along with it.
Too many posters assumed I was taking up for Trump. That's where the reading comprehension remarks came from. They obviously didn't read the posts as written, but as they wanted to see them, as support for Trump. Those that did so responded on a false assumption.
Everyone who came back with, I guess I'll have to use a childish response, "snotty" posts, needs to go back and re-read the posts and maybe they will understand what I was saying this time.
Remember, that just because you don't trash Trump doesn't mean you like his ways of doing some things, or support him in all things.
PS: Did you infer that Obama was a court jester?

My wife's grandmother is doing pretty well for someone born in 1921. A couple "mini-strokes" last week had us worried, but I was surprised how spry she was during our visit. Thanks for asking.
I think the problem people had was that Ilhan Omar is not a child today, and she has surely made an effort to learn about an event that would have been so life-changing. It doesn't matter if she understood at the time, with a little human courtesy we can assume that she understands the difference between living in Somalia and living here.
Many Trump supporters have suggested that the four members of congress that Trump has been pissing at are attempting to import ways of living from other cultures. I have seen Republicans in TV interviews doing it, and it was suggested in this thread by BIGV. That is a patently false assertion. I wasn't suggesting that you had said it... just that this has been part of the wider argument. Sorry for not clarifying that.

Do you agree that if we "sent her back" for a short tour to see if there was a way she could help those left behind and under duress would be ok?
The US culture changes repeatedly, if not slowly. Many people fear quick change in the status quo. One question, are you sure it's patently false about them wanting to import ways of living from other countries?
Do you know something others don't?
Glad to hear about your wife's grandmother. My mother-in-law suffered several small strokes and seemed healthier, even got to where she would laugh at jokes, but due to conditions of the strokes she couldn't talk very well.
if she doesn't have one, and is able to respond, get her a straight talk cellphone. I'm sure she would love to hear from everybody as often as possible.
Omar doesn't think the USA deserves any more respect than Al-Qaeda. That should say enough for everyone on both sides of the aisle. She is entitled to her views. I am all for free speech. She should not be in our Government with those views but that takes us back to those who elected her.

Yes. My words do apply to Trump. But Trump does not hate America nor does he say things that indicates he hates America.
Look I am not an idiot and I doubt seriously that you are an idiot. Your post though suggests otherwise. DUDE Mueller has reported, he has testified. But for those who just can't accept the results of 1) The election or 2) the outcome of the "Investigation" into the election, it's over. Get used to it.
Disgraceful? Try this on for size...
If nothing else it will give you a good laugh.

You are totally misunderstanding what she says and it is explained for you in the link I provided. Try watching all 3 minutes, don't just read the cliff's notes. So I guess wrong, and you don't understand.
In the portion of the interview in question, Omar and host Ahned Tharwat were discussing the tendency for English speakers to pronounce Arabic words with an intensity that makes the words sound more threatening than their literal definitions. The Arabic term “madrassa,” for example, simply translates to “school.” Even the names of terrorist groups, they said, sound flat when translated from Arabic. Al-Qaida, for example, means “the army.” Al Shabab means “the youth.”
Omar called it a byproduct of sensationalism in the news media that casts Muslims in a suspicious light overall. As an example of the phenomenon, Omar said she took a college course on the ideology of terrorism, and noticed that the professor pronounced Arabic words in a peculiar way.
Seen it, read it again and the only conclusion I have arrived at is I wouldn't want you in our government either. Funny how liberals can "explain" to us idiots that even though the meaning of the words were hateful and the way they were said was hateful that we just misunderstand. But let Trump crack a pretty funny joke about having Hillary's emails sent over by Russia and the "smart ones" want to use it as evidence against him for impeachment. Don't quit your regular job dude.
So Tell me "smart one" how I am "misunderstanding" Omar's comments on Israel?

If you think it's hateful to say that there is a latent prejudice towards Arabic words in Western culture, then you're probably the one with the prejudice.

Porkchop, that's not a very good explanation. Could you expand on, or explain what she was saying.
Also, I still can't do my homework on your father-in-law if I don't have his name.

Jerry, stop trying to quantify refugee trauma so you can rationalize Trump's statements on "sending them back", which he even attempted to walk back on. Perhaps you should spend some time with refugees.

Jerry, the suggestion of her going back as a member of congress on a fact-finding or humanitarian mission was never part of the conversation. That is not what Trump meant. The chants at the rally were not "Send her back so she can help people suffering in Somalia because we care so much for Somalians". They were just racist hate-spewing.
But sure, I support her going anywhere she needs to go in the function of her job as a member of congress.
[Side Note] The cell phone suggestion unfortunately won't help my wife's grandmother as she lived most of her life in Wellsville, Ohio, which is a coal / steel town. Despite never using tobacco, about ten years ago she had to have her larynx removed due to cancer.

No, the chants weren't like that. Trump did not raise his hands to stop the chants as i would have expected. Then again, if he had some Dem nut case would claim he was urging them on. Myself, if he had said, folks let me get back to my speech, it could have cut it off.
Man, sorry about her needing that done. It's kind of mysterious how cancer can hit people like that. My Dad was the baby of 17. My aunts and uncles mostly died of cancer. My Dad had some cancers removed several times. Most worked either in auto related jobs or were farmers.
Is she somewhat cognizant and mobile? If so, maybe just do a video chat where she can see and hear you.
Smiles and waves can convey a lot of info.

Why would you have expected him to cut them off? After this much time running for office and his actions in office, this is who he is & is predictable. These were pretty much his own ideas & words earlier in that week. He instigates this rhetoric & the audicence feeds off of it. He waited 13 seconds before he began speaking.
Last election he sat idlely as the followers chanted "Lock her up" at rally after rally. This new chant = his new bumper sticker version 2 for the next election. Concept has shifted to "Send her back".
Who is really urging them on?
You'll find out what he's made of when the next several rallies occur and how he deals with it? He created it, he owns it, and it is his to perpetuate or stop.
You'll find out what he's made of
You don't know by now?
Ilhan Omar IS the racist in this story. Her statements on Israel, and now we learn about her statements warning that White Men are the real threat. I don't care WHERE she lives. She should not be in congress. The Freedom she enjoys here allows her to rant against the very system that offered her family a better life.
EDIT:
Apparently she is safe though. Her Republican challenger has been charged with felony shoplifting. No Kidding. I didn't even know there was such a thing.
[Edited on 7/26/2019 by KCJimmy]
Yeah steal enough and it is Grand Theft a felony. She is claiming she blacked out at Target. Reading the kind of things she was stealng "Cat Tick Spray" etc points to her being kookoo for koko puffs.
Well, if You wanna send one back, maybe this one should go???.........Peace.........joe
