What a historic event. This is called progress by a great negotiator. Do people really want to go back to the Chuck and Nancy agenda?

What did the Trump gain? He agreed to stop joint military operations with South Korea. What did he get in return?

So, what is the alternative? Do nothing? There was 65 years of trying to keep North Korea on ignore.

We gained nothing. How is this any kind of success? Answer the question.

Several months back it felt like we were on the verge of WWIII with the Norks flying missiles over Japan and doing test launches. We have come a long way back from that atmosphere. It's a great first step, admit it.

That happened before the meeting. What did we gain in this meeting. NK got something, what did we get? Why didn't Trump push on human rights? Why didn't he get firm commitments for denuclearization? Why are there no inspections? NK has made promises like this many times in the past have broken every agreement.

The door is open. That is better than the door closed. But parading and claims of victory are very premature. I'm glad the two leaders met. Now there is alot of work to do. We'll see.

The official NK news outfit has just said that Trump agreed to lift sanctions on NK. Since there were only two people in the room plus their interpreters, how can Trump dispute this? He either calls KJU a liar or he gave away the store. Neither is a good option.

Trump got played. He is in over his head. What was a bigger screwup, G7 or Singapore?

Ronald Reagan once said trust, but verify. Seems like Trump's attitude is give some stuff away, and hope they do something without any committment whatsoever. No time table. No inspections. Nothing but a vague promise. How is this a win? My best guess is that Kim got a hold of that pee pee tape from Russia.

the Norks

Dehumanizing and objectifying an entire country with terms like this does not further peace. It is the same as calling the Vietnamese "gooks" or "dinks". Makes killing them a lot easier.

Is Goober seriously bragging about Dennis Rodman? He’s a good prankster that Goob. Nobody would ever truly brag about that association, right?

It's better than war, if you believe the verbal positioning ever made that a real possibility (I don't). But he still negotiated with and praised(!) a despot responsible for countless atrocities.

We were never on the verge of WWIII. Think it through. NK is about the same size as Mississippi and maybe had one warhead. What in the hell are you going to do with one ICBM? Nuke L.A.? Cool, do that, then you own country is turned into a sheet of glass in twenty minutes.

Trump fell for the missile test ploy. NK has promised to denuclearize at least 10 times in the last 20 years. They've now got the legitimization they've craved and given up nothing in return.

"Succeeds where others have failed?" The guy flew to Singapore for lunch and dinner, ceremonial conversations and carefully posed pictures. Presidents have been going on diplomatic trips for decades.

I gotta say, after years of having my patriotism questioned by simply being liberal by those who claim to be better Americans, I see that those same folks are delighted to see our flag woven with the flag of a regime that commits the atrocities against their own people... it's disgusting and the ultimate example of hypocrisy.

What work, exactly? They either denuclearize or they don't.

Bhawk, this is where all the conservative Trump supporters ignore and bail on the thread. When they don’t know how to answer, they vanish just like Fujirich.

I do think that it was good that they met. Time will tell if any good will come out of this. Trump neither succeeded or failed. Nothing concrete could get done in one meeting.
But , in the end, it was two ego maniacs doing what they do best. Drawing attention to themselves.
If Obama had the same meeting, with the same results, the liberals would be praising him, just like the conservatives are praising Trump, and the conservatives would be dumping on Obama. All of this bipartisism on this site is really predictable, and entertaining.

The work is rather overwhelming. What, how and when with North Korea disclose their facilities, inventory their components? What role with the IAEA or other countries play? What role will the US play. How is this going to be coordinated and verified. Clearly, the only thing we have now is some level of understanding on what should happen. What happens going forward is where this really will and should be judged as success or failure. It may be an overwhelming failure, nothing more than pranks the North Koreans have engaged in before.

In one of the many prior threads here that always boils down to the same pissing matches, a member here said he never thought he would wake up each morning wondering if we will be in a nuclear war. For the time being as far as the US and North Korea is concerned, that would appear to be less likely.

We've seen what giving them aid got us, we saw what ignoring them got us, we've seen where threats back-and-forth got us. Let's see where leader-to-leader communication can get us.

The key is if they are actually sincere. I can't know that. Nobody can know that. If they are sincere certainly it will be better for the United States, the region and the world. Lots of rush to judgement one way or the other...because that is what our society does, it's what this President does. Obviously there is no meaningful way to judge this first step days after it occurred. It will be months if not years to see where this path has led.

I certainly have no problem with them meeting. Talking is always a good thing, and hopefully will lead to a more open line of communication. What I have a problem with is all the praise Trump heaped on Kim. That just feeds in the propoganda machine. I also have a problem with offering concessions while getting nothing in return.

I hope some good comes out of this, but it seems to me Trump got played. This meeting certainly isn't anything to brag about. I'll certainly pass on buying the commemorative coin.

Did we send over pallets of cash like was the case to desperately get the Iran deal? No! I dont think we gave up anything, except a hard posture. We need to try something different.

Looking back, the Obama/Kerry negotiating tactics are now firmly in a diplomatic failures playbook.

One more thing, we have to deal with the despot we have, not the despot we wish we had to deal with. Why is the MSM constantly trying to shout how evil Kim is? Trump voters understand who Kim is.

Trump said the KJU is a great guy and the people of North Korea love him. Do you believe that?

Trump also said that on the campaign trail that "many people" asked him if he would bring their sons home from Korea, meaning the MIA's from that war. Do you believe that? By my calculations, a person who fought in that war would be about 85 to 95 years old today. That means their parents would be 105 to 130 years old today. Do you believe him?

You won't answer, you will ignore or change the subject.

What I heard was that returning the remains were a request from families, meaning it could be anyone who wanted to honor their family legacy and have a proper burial.

This summit has been an excellent first step. Kim didnt create North Korea, he was born into it. He was raised outside of N.Korea so if we get conned I will be the first to admit it.

That will be twice you've been conned - first a vote for a master con artist, Trump & then conned into believing KJU will actually follow through with a few bullet points on a piece of paper. But good for you in believing in twin sons of different mothers.
