Brer, the Anything Goes part of the General Chat has always been for the musical side of things, while the Whippin' Post has traditionally been for the place political discussions, current events and anything else people want to offer up. The site provides a good service, news and blues, things you can actually use in your daily lives. There's something here for everybody.

Some people do get a little too upset when others do not agree with them, but I think we can all agree personal attacks serve no purpose.

Personally, I don’t think name calling is the root of the problem here. It’s those who come here for the sole purpose of using inflammatory rhetoric to fight, rather than engage in discussion. That’s what should be banned.

BoyntonBrother - it's certainly subjective and "inflammatory rhetoric" is even more subjective than "personal attacks and name calling," especially in the Whipping Post where people seem to enjoy posting topics that are very polarizing.

The following comments are made in general, and not directed to BoyntonBrother.

I see baiting and inflammatory rhetoric happening on both sides of many of the discussions here.

The fact that you think an opinion is wrong doesn't give you the right to attack the person making that point.

All that said, posting here is a privilege, not a right, and if you go after people and call them names, you lose that right.

And... I know a lot of you personally, and y'all are a lot nicer in person than you can be here when you get your hackles up ! I'd like to see more of the behavior of the cool people I know and less of the folks with steam coming out of their ears.

In all seriousness, I'm simply saying that I don't think this rule will stop any personal attacks, if that is the goal. Just today I've seen the phrase "only an IDIOT would think that", because technically, the writer didn't namecall a member of the site. Just my humble opinion, as a fan of the site.

Thanks for posting this. I've read way too many personal attacks on here through the decades, and you also had crazy people who I believe have since been banned or no longer visit here, who would Doxxx people who they did not like and publically post their home address, and place of work, etc.
