Yeah, there was one, but not sure. Hopefully the fantasy stuff can stay in another thread.

Looks like the Vikings  might be running away from everyone else in the NFC North.

There was definitely a thread. Maybe the author deleted it. Oh well.

Vikes look like they have the NFC North unless the wheels come off. Packers looked better in the 2nd half against Buffalo once they stuck with their run game (finally), but it's clear this squad is on the other side of the bell curve. They could still make a run at a wild card, but they just don't have the playmakers and the OL looks like a sieve.

What's "the fantasy stuff"?  Betting?  The yahoo pick'em league?  Nobody talks fantasy football leagues or players in these threads.

Bengals need to figure out their gameplan without Chase.

Bengals now 0-3 in division, that could get difficult when it comes to tie-breaking time.

NFC South is one of the more intriguing divisions right now - Atlanta is #1 at 4-4!

How about he NFC West with Seattle?!  Man, I really did not expect that.  Arizona last, fully expected that.  That team is horrible!

Saints shut out the Raiders!  Shut out!  Derek Carr, Devonte Adams, Josh McDaniels...shut out!  Very surprising.  Raiders OL is really bad and their secondary players aren't the best either.  I knew when they signed that one former CB who was on Baltimore, Avert or something, I knew they were in trouble if they needed him to start for them.

Two weeks in a row Lions cover the 1H and lose the 2H and game, well this week they pushed full game if the line was 4.

It's the Lions, but still pretty disappointing considering they showed some signs of life, now 1-6.

Yeah, Lee, did you delete the old thread by accident?  Maybe you tried to change the thread title and didn't even know you did it?  Threads don't just disappear these days.

I think that's what he means, there used to be more betting chatter in the NFL thread which really only matters to the person betting. And he's not wrong - betting on arbitrarily set lines and spreads is more fantasy than betting on tangible player stats.

Doesn't bother me, I usually just skipped past it.

Nope that was a thread in MT. Quite a bit back. Not one in The Whipping Post. Oh well, doesn't matter. Wasn't a lot of the prior NFL thread about the Pick Em pools? I seem to remember that anyway.

There was definitely an NFL thread in the WP as recent as last week, plenty of chatter. I still have email notification about it but the link is broken so it either got deleted or maybe just archived. It had been going for about a couple years, probably needed to refresh anyways.

As if there are so many posts that talking about "fantasy" somehow detracts from "all" the normal discussions going on?

Colts are having a great season.

nfl.com summary of trade deadline moves:

https://www.nfl.com/news/nfl-trade-grades-judging-2022-deadline-deals

Seeing some of these for the first time.  Chubb to Miami, pretty good for them. I'm sure Hockenson loves getting out of Detroit to a hopeful winner.  Interesting that Bears deal two starters on D and acquire a WR.  I always thought that Claypool had more potential than he has delivered.

Guessing they'll shock Pack Sunday, yes they're both skidding but the Paper Lions are due for a win - anyone recall that book, Paper Lion, by George Plympton, back in the day

Browns & Pats got crucial wins, esp Browns, an L5 going into their bye week might've sunk them - guessing Pats & Miami wins, & Jets over Buff on Sunday

read an interesting On This Day recently - Slingin' Sammy Baugh, the greatest Washington Redskins player of them all - 4 TD passes as the Redskins beat the Boston Yanks 66-21 - Boston Yanks??? that's sacrilege (hehe) - never heard of that before

but it's Hou at Phila tonite & tomorrow, also Phila at Hou tomorrow nite NFL, then Phila returns to Hou for last two games of WS........."if necessary......" 😵

Well, there used to be more discussion here. And, I can't recall who it was, but someone used to detail how they were betting every. single. week. They might as well have been talking about their trip to the casino.

But, like I said, I'd just scroll past it.

I think we are past the point of anyone being shocked at the Packers losing. Even to the Lions.

They made a movie of Paper Lion with Alan Alda.

Bold.  Damn bold.  How many picks is Wilson going to throw?

I mean I would love it, love an up-and-coming hopeful to upset a powerhouse, but man...how do you envision that happening?

Jets outgained NE by 100 yards.  The pick-six called back before HT was a killer for Jets.  Was that a roughing call or PI, I forget.  Not the first time Wilson has killed them with turnovers.

I did like how GB played the 2H at Buff, it's just only 2 quarters though.  Buffalo is going to get theirs over a 4 qrt game unless they make a bunch of mistakes like they did at Miami.  Allen had 2 INTs in the 2H vs GB.  But who's more likely to make more mistakes this game?  Allen or Wilson?  Jet's can't hide Wilson and expect to win this game like they did in others.

Colts are having a great season.

Far from it. Trying to figure out the QB position. Giving Sam Ehlinger a try for the rest of the season and see what he has. They fired the OC, who does not even call plays and trade  Nyheim Hines for Zach Moss and a 6th round pick. Circling the toilet bowl and waiting for the impending flush. What a regression this season has been.

Everyone has a plan, till you get punched in the face,

I made a wager for both Minnesota and Indianapolis to make the playoffs this summer.  Both things need to happen.  Think it paid 2 or 2.5:1.  Sounded good in August!

Have you told either team? Maybe they'll play harder knowing this.

I forgot, I wanted to say late last night I was flipping channels and on FS2 there was a this thing titled "The Great Brady Heist".  I was pretty good.  His Super Bowl jersey, actually two of them, were stolen from the locker room post game.  Pretty interesting story with interviews and investigation process.

And hey @sang you forgot to make your Thursday pick! Nothing like starting the league then forgetting to make a pick....I know somebody else who did that once...

What's this Houston up 7-0 on the might Eagles!

Wilson can't continue to cough it up at the rate - true NY should've started the season at 0-3 but the Browns gift-wrapped that 31-30 game in the second week - but they've played decent, they're at home and the urgency of their situation I think will cause the upset - it's just a hunch I guess

Lions, Patriots and Miami...ok nice picks, but J-E-T-S beating Buffalo straight up?  You get in front of an 11 pt underdog to beat the AFC favorite!  You my friend, deserve a nice tip of the cap.  And hopefully you bet.

They pulled it off. Good call, Bills were due for a loss. Fly Jets uh, fly?

Packers hit rock bottom. I figured they'd lose again, went out for lunch at the beach instead. Saw the score on my way out the door. 3 INTs? At the goal line no less? Wheels have come off. I figured this squad would get knocked around a little more, but I also thought it would toughen them up and they'd respond. Waste of a decent defensive effort.

I have Christmas Day Pack-Fins tickets, I wonder if we'll be watching Jordan Love.

Well the Packer may have finally hit rock bottom I think. They score 9 points against the NFL's worst defense, one of their top defensive players, Rashad Gary, tore his ACL and is out for the year.

With their schedule the Packers may not win another game this year. Looks like a good year for QB's in the 2023 draft so if we end up with a top 5 pick do they take another QB to hedge our bets or try to trade out of the pick and accumulate picks and young talent? Unless he retires Rodgers isn't going anywhere for another year or two due to the salary cap hit.

The team has been blessed with two back to back HOF QB's but we may finally be in for a long painful rebuild due to our salary cap hell coming up the next few years.

I got involved on the Packers +2.5 live at HT so I watched most of the 2H.  Couldn't believe how many missed opportunities GB had.  For sure many and I want to think most teams in the league would've beat the Lions given the same chances the Packers had Sunday.  So I agree, that for sure is a new low and a really bad game vs a really poor team.  The other GB losses aren't good, but have come against some teams playing good football.  I think we all know that Buffalo especially at home is tough to match up with, so no real harm losing to them.  And even the Washington game a couple weeks ago, Washington had a nice little run going there until the Minny lost and GB seemed to play good enough in the 1H as I remember.  Jets and Giants are playing good football in spots.  But now the Packers have lost 5 straight and losing to the previously 1-6 Lions who was blowing games and giving up yards and points to everyone - that loss is quite the black eye.  Rodgers does take accountability post game, however during the game, you can tell that any mistake is always the receivers fault.  INT?  blame the receiver of course.  I thought all 3 INTs were squarely on him.  Not putting enough on the ball twice (and a third time that was just batted away that could've been a TD in the 3rd) and then not leading the receiver on the other INT, might've been the TE.

The OC is HC in Denver.  The QB coach is OC in Chicago.  The losses and new faces at WR have been talked about a lot.  I'm wondering if the coaching changes around Rodgers have had as much to do with this as anything else related to the O struggles?

How about Jeff Saturday interim HC for the Colts?  Kind of an interesting thing there.  Wonder how the players will react to that?  Not like we will see any kind of big difference in wins/losses, the team is what it is.  Do they even want to win any more games, draft positioning?

Brady finally got back on the winning side and I'm happy for him. Seattle v Tampa in Germany is a pretty big game for both teams as they try to stay on top of their division standings.

Chicago is playing pretty good right now.  Beat NE, played better, atleast offensively, than some would've expected at Dallas and then again, the offense gave them a chance vs Miami.  Not sure they want Fields running that much?  Some winnable games coming up, the Lions, at Atl and at NYJ.  Can the Bears win all 3 of those?  2 out of 3?  Probably concerning on the defensive side right now especially with no Quinn and Smith.

Speaking of Smith, nice add for Baltimore huh?  His talent was on display last night.

I said the exact samething to my wife after watching that game. I can only imagine what Rodgers is thinking.

Yeah, its very rare/lucky were you have back to back great qb's leading your franchise for a few decades and the opposite when teams struggle for decades looking for just "that" one guy. Having that generational QB or close to, behind the center is so important, obviously. Is it everything, no, but a good part of success can be attributed to it. I thought the Colts had that with Luck.

Good questions.

Yeah the Colts thing is interesting to say the least. I am not sure what to think of it . The local media here in Indy and Colts message boards are full of opinions, thoughts and theories. I even saw a few online that are making it about race. I wont bore you all with Colts talk, just throw in my quick .02 cents, which is not even worth that! Maybe a stale warm beer and a day old dried up pretzel stick!

I think Irsay has been patient enough since this regime took over in 2017/2018 and has seen his team spiraling down and into a regressive state this year. Its his money, he can do whatever he wants. He is passionate about football and wants a winner or at least be competitive. Saturday is a Colts guy, knows the game, smart, was very involved in the CBA in 2011 and I think what Jim stressed at the press conference, is a leader. Coaching , we shall see. People would be foolish thinking he is going to come in and turn this turd of a team into winning the rest of its season.

He has already been consulting with Indy for the past couple of years and has been approached on a few different times about a position(s).

I have two thoughts.

A.) Yes he will continue as coach into the future as long as there are some signs of improvement.

B.) He is here as just as an interim coach to see what the issues are and to see what needs to be done and improved upon, then at that point GM Chris Ballard is gone and Jeff moves into player personnel/GM role.
