NFL 2024

Right, the Lions of September, October and then at times in the second half of the season. But they are not at full strength, and therefore not championship level in their current form. That is the difference, because of the key players they are missing and what those absences translate to on the field, that D is a shell of it's former self, those aren't the type of teams that advance through the playoffs. They were able to blitz Darnold and rattle him in the season finale - that is pretty much their only viable option to play defense given the players they currently have. If that plan can't success, their defense fails. I don't really intend to put the team down, but it is just a reality of what has happened to their roster with injuries on defense. They had a great season and are a great team, but in their current form, you can see exactly what they are and it is 0-1 in the playoffs losing to a wildcard team. Must not excuse 5 turnovers from the Detroit offense, but their D also forced 0. High turnover games are maybe a fluke, something that happens, being outmanned or undermanned on defense is something that is a weekly liability.

Well, the best I can do is to beat out coot*. So that would be worth it.
And since we used to blame Sang for everything, Go Wharfie!

Philly covered the over by themselves today. I hope Buffalo knocks out KC. They win too much.

HMMMM...

The two most complete teams won, it seems. Not the most exciting match-up, but probably the most competitive. I know fans get sick of the same team winning but KC is a pretty likeable team. Remember when Philly fans wanted their coach fired 17 weeks ago?

The Pick 'Em pool is coming down to the wire! Chuck needs to get one right and have Sang lose for the winner.
Coot needs to win and have me lose to tie me for fourth.
Danb needs to get 41 games correct Sunday to tie for first.

Rule #1: NEVER bet against Mr. Mahomes. I think anyone who does is nuts. That being said, I'm sure hoping that the Chiefs go down. Hell, they have knocked my team, SF 49ers, out of The Super Bowl two out of the last five years. We took them into overtime last year.
Side 49ers note: Brock Purdy deserves a huge extension by next season. All he did was save both GM John Lynch and Coach Shanahan's jobs after their disastrous Trey Lance QB pick in which they shipped out several high draft picks including some first rounders. Don't quite know what someone was thinking, taking a guy who played a grand total of 14 games in college, and even that was in The Missouri Valley Conference. Without Purdy, the last player picked, rising up and taking them to the Bowl, I think those two guy's jobs may have been in danger.

KC was only 9 wins to 10 losses against the spread this year. They have covered 4 of the last 5 down the stretch and in the playoffs, but at one point this year, betting on KC only won 4 out of 9 ATS, which is the way most people bet.
Now if it's straight up, money line, obviously those bets have won 17 out of 19.

@nebish: I was talking about straight up, but there's no way you could have known that. I'm not a bettor so I don't always think about the odds. The extent of my betting history was two trips to Vegas 20 years or so ago, betting on the NCAA Tournament. And it wasn't big $$$ by any means because I don't HAVE big $$$. It sure was fun though, because some of these guys have $5,000 on the game. People jumping up and down, screaming because the ball rolled off the rim.........

Sure thing it is fun being in those books when games are on the line and everyone reacts who had money on it. I have some good memories myself. I haven't been to Vegas in years, but the year that Nebraska beat BYU on a hailmary. Auburn's Rudy Johnson's late TD vs Wyoming to cover the spread. That was a really fun one too. Never been there for basketball but it must be wild.
Chiefs win, that's what they do.
I don't really care about the Super Bowl. I love football, love the NFL, but it's the season when all the teams are playing. Playoffs are good, but by the time the Super Bowl rolls around I kind of just watch out of obligation to see it through.
My wife loves Mahomes.

I took the Beagles and the under. Not sure about the under because it seems like there are always a lot of points scored in the second half. I have seven squares in multiple pools. Not sure who to root for in that.

Well, I am about to put my famous jalapeno poppers in the oven, knowing that I won the pool! Wharfy and I both picked KC, so I win no matter what happens.

Well, that wasn't much of a game. Had a lot of fun with the pick 'em league again - especially since I won!
Since there is no money involved and it is just for bragging rights, I made a great comeback. I only took the lead 2 weeks ago during the conference championships.
Everybody (except DanB) played really well this year - only 7 points separated places 3-6 - don't remember it ever being this close before.
Guess that coot* will have to change his name now ... 🤣
Here are the final results:
1. Sangsters of the Midway 153-112
2. Fighting Irish (Wharfrat) 152-116
3. sk (nebish) 148-118
4. Where's My Mule (Lee) 144-121
5. Cootsinfirstplace 143-122
6. Marco 141-153
7. DWB22 (DanB) 112-153

It was a snoozer of a game. I turned it off at the half, 24-0. I think when I flipped it back on it was 40-6.
Regarding everyone doing well, I thought the same thing. If we had all best on every game, we all would have won some $ except Marco.
And I think coot owes everyone his best shows.

It was a good season.
Thanks for organizing the pick 'em and better turnout, we all stuck with it all year long - except Danb but that was predictable I guess.
Congratulations to Sang...I wonder how the tiebreaker would've worked out had wharfrat picked Philly?
By the way, you say "famous jalapeño poppers" and that is all I can think about. I'll have to bring you another bottle of bourbon.
