It's around the corner!

You all hear about the changes coming for this year? Each race will be 3 segments and points awarded for winning each segment. Details here:

I have toured the track but not attended the race. My nephew forked over the bucks and did a few laps around the track. He still talks about it.

Race was sold out last year, but that was the first year for the remodel. I've only been to Charlotte before on a few occasions. We talked about going back to Charlotte again and were like 'why not Daytona' after all it is like the biggest nascar event of the season. Should be fun. Alot of tracks don't have hotels and bars within walking distance of the track, but Daytona does so that helps. We looked into renting an RV inside the track, which as cool as it would've been, hard to justify the cost of doing that.

4 signed up so far. I know for sure that 3 more people will be coming on. Hopefully alanwoods sees this, I don't have his email for some reason.

Legalizehemp should play. You don't need to watch NASCAR to do well. I won the ABB league my first year in and Sang did pretty well at times last season.

went there once. Time trials, didn't have tickets to the race though... 🙁

Daytona is a madhouse during Speedweeks. I hope you're a drinker... 😛 😉 Grin

Been to the track, many times, Twin 125's for years, the July race multiple times - and the 500 once.

All that was pre-recent improvements.

A new entry to the NASCAR league, Heineken515! Let's go racin Don!

It makes watching the races more fun.

I know for sure last year's winner and another person will be signing up still.

I guess we've lost leafsfan? He was always pretty into the racin'. No sign of Alan yet.

And we need to recruit legalizhemp still.

AWESOME!

It is pretty easy to play. As you'll see the drivers are grouped into A, B and C. A drivers are typically the best and most likely to win on a weekly basis. The B drivers are the next group and usually every year there are a couple B drivers that end up having really good years. C drivers are tough. They are rookies or drivers with underfunded teams or part timers.

You can pick 2 A, 4 B and 2 C drivers for your roster each week before the rosters lock which is usually before practices on Thursday, Friday or Saturday take place.

So once you have that roster of drivers you then select 1 A, 2 B and 1 C driver for your actual starting lineup for the race. You do get points for qualifying in the top 4 and you also get points for leading a lap or the most laps in a race. And then the final point totals are awarded based on finishing position.

This year will be a little different since NASCAR changed how the races are going to be run. I should read that myself before I tell people how to play.

There are 3 segments to our fantasy season, spring, summer and fall/playoffs, plus the overall season winner.

Your single lowest score per segment will be dropped. So if you forget to do it one week and your lineup is crappy or a bunch of your drivers wreck, don't worry, you get 1 freebie each segment.

Have fun!

If you have any questions or need help you can send me a PM or email.

I don't claim to understand all the new points/stages/segments rules, but I did read where I believe they will have a competition caution after each stage or segment.

I don't like it.

Of course I will have to see how this plays out but 1st impression is that makes it too much like the {fill in the blank} Clash race or the Charlotte All Star race and less like a normal race.

Yeah...on one hand I don't like scheduled stops and essentially having 3 shorter races, but then again I really do love restarts. I think restarts are the best part of races.

Overall I'm open to it. Only been following nascar for all that long. I don't know, I could see how long time fans wouldn't like it.

There is a contest in Chicago. If you buy grandstand tickets for the race here in September and you enter this contest and Jr. wins the Daytona, they will give you your money back for the Chicago race.

Interesting...

No race! Rain? I had it DVR to watch tonight, will have to DVR tomorrow now.

Turned it on to hear them saying a sponsors name every other word.

If there is one thing I hate about nascar it is all the damn sponsorship and marketing stuff everywhere. Drivers drink (or pretend to drink) from their coke or other energy drink before interviews. The announcers must be contractually bound to state more often than not "Sunoco fuel" instead of just "fuel" or "Goodyear tires" instead of just "tires".

How about the ARCA race...The Lucas Oil Complete Engine Treatment 200 Driven by General Tire. Got to especially hate them squeezing two sponsors into one title.

Agreed!!

Every time I turned the TV over to practice they were on commercial. The product really just sucks these days.

Nascar is the only sport that doesn't publish it's TV ratings. I'd love to see how far it's dropped in the last few years.

Here's a quote from Brian France.

“Number two, we are still very pleased with our position in sports. The audience isn't going away at all. It's sliding to different places, consuming in different ways. I would tell you some other leagues that have 30% drop‑offs, they didn't lose 30% of their audience from one moment to the next, that audience is just sliding and consuming in some different ways. Our digital consumption is off the charts.”

Which leagues have fallen 30"? This dude is delusional. The fan base is sliding alright onto other sports.

http://www.sportsmediawatch.com/2016/11/nascar-ratings-chase-cup-finale-homestead-viewership-down/

Excluding rainouts, Homestead was the first Sprint Cup race since the Brickyard 400 in July to avoid a multi-year low in ratings or viewership — ending a brutal stretch of 11 straight races to hit an all-time or decade-plus low. It was still the 12th straight race to decline from last year and the 11th straight to drop by double-digits.

Overall, of the 29 Sprint Cup races that can be compared to last year, 21 declined in ratings and 22 declined in viewership. That includes 15 that dropped double-digits in one or both measures.

I don't follow much offseason sports news, this change on how the races are going to be run is likely going to try and address the drop in race track attendance and TV viewing.

The whoring themselves to the sponsors is just so annoying.

The Daniel Suarez in the Clash thing was 100% about commitment to sponsors. The kid has talent, but compared to everyone else in that race he's done nothing to deserve to be there. Sponsors totally control the sport.
