Justice Gorsuch sworn in

We have a new Supreme Court Justice. Neil Gorsuch. An excelent pick as Justice Gorsuch actually follows the law as written, not from a political agenda.
President Trump will get at least one more opportunity, maybe more, to nominate another Supreme Court Justice.
Justice Kennedy is likely to retire soon, Justice Kagen is in poor health and as you can see below, Justice Ginsburg's clutch may be slipping. She is well known for sleeping through oral arguments before the Court and is well into her 80s.
Ruth Bader Ginsburg confuses Lindsey Graham for a woman
By Ryan Lovelace (@LovelaceRyanD) • 4/11/17 11:31 AM
⦁ Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg erroneously labeled South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham as one of the "women of the Senate" on Monday.
⦁ Ginsburg's misstatement came in her remarks upon accepting an Allegheny College award given to her and the late Justice Antonin Scalia for civility in public life. Hours after Justice Neil Gorsuch was sworn in to replace Scalia, Ginsburg took to the podium in calling on lawmakers to work together, but mistakenly identified South Carolina's senior senator as a woman.
⦁ "I thought back to the 1993 confirmation of my nomination to the court—the hearing was altogether civil, the vote was 96 to 3. For Justice Scalia, the vote was unanimous," Ginsburg ⦁ said. "Let's hope members of Congress, the members that Allegheny College has already honored — Vice President Joe Biden and Senator John McCain, the women of the Senate, Senators Dianne Feinstein and Lindsey Graham — let's hope that they and others of goodwill will lead in restoring harmonious work ways."

That is funny...women of the Senate...Lindsey Graham.
But to her point, most recent confirmation votes of Supreme Court Justices:
Sandra Day O'Connor 9/21/81, 99-0
William Rehnquist 9/17/86, 65-33
Antonin Scalia 9/17/86, 98-0
Robert Bork 10/23/87, 42-58 (rejected)
Anthony Kennedy 2/3/88, 97-0
David Souter 10/2/90, 90-9
Clarence Thomas 10/15/91, 52-48 (11 Democrats voted yes)
Ruth Bader Ginsburg 8/3/93, 96-3
Stephen Breyer 6/29/94, 87-9
John Roberts 9/29/05, 78-22 (22 Democrats voted yes)
Sam Alito 1/31/06, 58-42 (4 Democrats voted yes)
Sonia Sotomayor 8/6/09, 68-31 (9 Republicans voted yes)
Elena Kagan 8/5/10, 63-37 (5 Republicans voted yes)
Neil Gorsuch 4/7/17, 54-45 (3 Democrats voted yes)
The trend is that either the nominees are getting more objectionable to the Senators voting or the Senators are getting more partisan.

Welcome to modern day politics.
As long as The Republicans keep winning its all good!

There's that "winning" thing again. It's so important to you! Makes you feel so good! Did you never win at little league or something? You sound like Charlie Sheen.

The winning comes in the elections.
The American People have chosen the Republicans to run the country.
We win, you lose. Again.

He shoots, he scores!
+1 for the constitution and the 2nd amendment.

That's ok..... once they see the republicans for what they are, others will be in power..... people need to be reminded what the republicans stand for every once in a while.... and 99% of the people shouldn't like it... 😛

Friendly reminder that you are on the same team. You either win together or lose together. A change in captain doesn't create two teams. With the state of world affairs, it is probably a good idea to remind yourselves that you are on the same team.

Thats exactly why the democrats lost and lost big. The celebrated a man with a penis in a dress and looked down on a factory worker and his family.

Yeah, well, they don't want anyone remotely perceived on the left on their team. They have their version of America and whoever doesn't fit isn't included. I keep waiting for more folks on the left to realize that, but, oh well.
If it all goes down divided, so be it.

Thats exactly why the democrats lost and lost big.
How big was Trump's winning popular vote margin?

By "what the republicans stand for" I assume you mean how the left falsely characterizes Republicans.
Obviously The People know very well what the Republicans stand for and embrace it because they chose Republicans to run the country.
You can always go with calling The People deplorable, racists, misogynist, homophobic and all the other labels that cost the left the Presidency.
Take the hint son, The People know better.

Exactly right, CM. This sports fan mentality of "winning", as if you want 50% of the population to "lose" is a petty approach to politics and shows no understanding how policies affect everyone. If you believe everything the "other side" does is villainous, horrible, or wrong, you probably aren't a critical thinker and can't see the forest from the trees. If you don't understand that politics is incredibly cyclical, that the pendulum swings back and forth, you might have been born yesterday.

Thats exactly why the democrats lost and lost big. The celebrated a man with a penis in a dress and looked down on a factory worker and his family.
When did anyone look down on a factory worker? Examples, please.
Also, Jenner voted for and supported Trump, so assuming a magazine feature on someone publicly transitioning meant others weren't celebrated is your own narrative and connection.

I would refer you to the Constitution.
I know it is the left's talking point but the left doesn't like to follow the law when it is inconvenient.
If you cannot emotionally or mentally handle the results of the election run to your safe space and begin to write your manifesto.

I didn't call anybody anything (unlike every one of your posts).
So what is important so far to republicans:
1) Take healthcare away from 24 million Americans to help give the 1% more money
2) Gut the EPA and get rid of regulations that help provide clean air and water and protect natural resources - while also denying climate change - perfect for the future of our kids
3) Get rid of regulations that protect investors from getting fleeced by financial advisers
4) Allow states to defund women's health providers
5) Pretend that they can bring back coal jobs, when there is no market for them
6) Take money from needed safety net programs to increase unneeded military spending - while doing nothing for veterans
the list goes on......

Your list is nothing more that left-wing talking points with no basis in fact.
Lets look at your first lie:
1) Take healthcare away from 24 million Americans to help give the 1% more money.
- 24 million people did not get health care INSURANCE under obamacare.
- There are no propoasals to take "healthcare insurance away from anyone.
- Where exactly in proposed legisltion is any obamacare money being redirected to "the 1%"
Obamacare is failing fast and without a major increase in that entitlement program from the taxpayers it will soon fail. More than 80 hospitals have had to close because of the regulations in obamacare. There are not enough doctors willing to take new obamacare patients because of the low doctor reimbursements.
Obamacare was sold to The People using lies.
More than half of the obamacare exchanges have already failed and closed. 6 more have announced their intent to pull out of the obamacare system by the end of this year leaving over 12 million people with no health insurance.
President Trump is working to fix the fiasco known as obamcare. At no time has he proposed taking anything away from anyone. He has said clearly that the bad law needs to be replaced with one that will work and ensure that all Americans have access to healthcare insurance.
Meanwhile, the democrats have offer no fix for the defective Obamacare.
Nothing.
Now run back to Media Matters and learn how to respond. Plenty of lies there to feed your uninformed mind.

Learn to read and understand. I said take away healthcare, and you blather on about healthcare insurance.... maybe you should look at what the impact of Trump/RyanCare would be - you can ignore the analysis by the CBO that said 24 million would lose coverage, and I'm sure you will denigrate the source as always...

By the way, the republicans are in charge, not the democrats.... in case you have forgotten.... so why do you care about a democratic plan? If your posts weren't so sad they would be funny....

Back to the old tried and true demonizing the rich again I see.
How much does the 1% benefit? According to the CNN article linked there it says:
Under the Affordable Care Act, single taxpayers with incomes above $200,000 and couples making more than $250,000 annually have paid an additional 0.9% Medicare payroll tax on the amount they earn above those thresholds. Another 3.8% tax applies to investment income above those income levels. The two taxes have been in place since 2013.
I didn't know that making over $200k single or $250k married puts you in the 1% - and depending where one lives with what cost of living that area has, it may not even be considered rich relative to location.
And lets remember regarding the 24 million uninsured in 2026, within that number lies the 14 million uninsured next year, which the CBO had this to say:
CBO and JCT estimate that, in 2018, 14 million more people would be uninsured under the legislation than under current law. Most of that increase would stem from repealing the penalties associated with the individual mandate. Some of those people would choose not to have insurance because they chose to be covered by insurance under current law only to avoid paying the penalties, and some people would forgo insurance in response to higher premiums.
So "most" of the 14 million is created by repealing the mandate (or penalty) for not having insurance, meaning those people would willingly be choosing to be uninsured.
As for the rest of the number for 19 years from now, I think Tom Price may've been accurate when he says the CBO report is misleading because they can only grade the first step or a 3 phase approach without knowing what other measures have yet to be put in place that would get more people insured. True CBO can only guesstimate at the picture the see in front of them, but at the same time, it shouldn't be taken as the be-all-end-all if in fact Price has more up his sleeve to complement the AHCA with.

That's ok..... once they see the republicans for what they are, others will be in power..... people need to be reminded what the republicans stand for every once in a while.... and 99% of the people shouldn't like it... 😛

Justice Gorsuch does rule on cases based on the law just as Justice Scalia did.
Now this is going to get interesting.
All the cases that ended in a 4-4 tie were sent back to the lower courts.
Each can be re-appealed to The Supreme Court and The Supreme Court can re-decide to hear them again or not.
I hope no one is in a hurry. Or not.

There is no doubt politics has grown more partisan. Would be interesting to see the stats on republican crossover votes too

I said take away healthcare, and you blather on about healthcare insurance.... maybe you should look at what the impact of Trump/RyanCare would be - you can ignore the analysis by the CBO that said 24 million would lose coverage, and I'm sure you will denigrate the source as always...
Here's an analysis by your beloved Fox News....
How it helps the rich...

I don't watch any cable network news, and don't read Media Matters - so your slurs mean nothing to me....
By the way, the republicans are in charge, not the democrats.... in case you have forgotten.... so why do you care about a democratic plan? If your posts weren't so sad they would be funny....

Your statement was that so what is important so far to republicans:
1) Take healthcare away from 24 million Americans to help give the 1% more moneyYou are a liar.
Not one Republican has said or is proposing to take healthcare away from anyone.
Not one Republican has said or is proposing give the 1% more money.Same tired old talking points that informed people know is crap.
Obviously you don't understand the republican plan that was put forward by only the republicans and was voted down.... The American Health Care Act.... but you knew that.....Mr. King of Tired Old Talking Points....
________________________________________________________________________________
The American Health Care Act had nothing to do with taking healthcare away from anyone.
The American Health Care Act had nothing to do with obamacare money being redirected to "the 1%"
If you had actually read the bill you would know this but you rely entirely on the left's talking points.
Try something new for you.

That's ok..... once they see the republicans for what they are, others will be in power..... people need to be reminded what the republicans stand for every once in a while.... and 99% of the people shouldn't like it... 😛
_______________________________________________________________________________
By "what the republicans stand for" I assume you mean how the left falsely characterizes Republicans.
Obviously The People know very well what the Republicans stand for and embrace it because they chose Republicans to run the country. You can always go with calling The People deplorable, racists, misogynist, homophobic and all the other labels that cost the left the Presidency.
Take the hint son, The People know better.I didn't call anybody anything (unlike every one of your posts).
5) Pretend that they can bring back coal jobs, when there is no market for them
6) Take money from needed safety net programs to increase unneeded military spending - while doing nothing for veteransthe list goes on......

Your list is nothing more that left-wing talking points with no basis in fact.
Lets look at your first lie:
1) Take healthcare away from 24 million Americans to help give the 1% more money.
- 24 million people did not get health care INSURANCE under obamacare.- There are no propoasals to take "healthcare insurance away from anyone.

Later, following additional changes to subsidies for insurance purchased in the nongroup market and to the Medicaid program, the increase in the number of uninsured people relative to the number under current law would rise to 21 million in 2020 and then to 24 million in 2026. The reductions in insurance coverage between 2018 and 2026 would stem in large part from changes in Medicaid enrollment—because some states would discontinue their expansion of eligibility, some states that would have expanded eligibility in the future would choose not to do so, and per-enrollee spending in the program would be capped. In 2026, an estimated 52 million people would be uninsured, compared with 28 million who would lack insurance that year under current law.
He is informed. You are not.

Cool. Sounds like "Muleman1994" has read it word for word.
I'm having some trouble correlating this verbiage to the coverage credit payments as defined under section 7529. Can anyone help?
