Hey to Trump's credit, even the President publicly condemned the alleged assault. Why single out "liberals" for a reaction anyone would have if they hear a story like this? I'm sure many conservatives were shocked too.
If Smollet is full of sh!t the real crime is that he has made it harder for anyone who reports actual crimes like this to be believed.

I'm not a lawyer, far from it, but I would guess there are some public nuisance laws that would cover something like that. Maybe get them for hampering and lying in an investigation, I doubt there are any felonies here.
The real cost will be paid by Smollet, backfired publicity stunt could cost him plenty if the studios turn their backs on him.
And as I mentioned, now the folks who report real crimes of this nature have this bs to contend with, that is the biggest price of all.

Looks like you are correct - I just looked it up. Varies state to state from misdemeanor to felony. Class 4 felony in Chicago.

That is correct. He said he was attacked by skinheads in a restroom at SFO and they drew a swastika on his forehead. He faked the whole thing. He, however, never filed a police report, so he wasn't charged with anything.

One of the many reasons I don't pay any attention to Twitter. The president along with other leaders or celebrities have made that very obvious.
This situation reminds me of the Oklahoma City bombings when immediately afterwards, Senator Dole was commenting on the need for immigration reform (no Twitter then, just regular tv news). Turns out immigration had nothing to do with the bombing at all.
