I'm still waiting for even one presidential candidate, including the current occupant of the White House, to make federal rescheduling of cannabis a part of their platform in 2020....
Occasionally I mention this frustration of mine to friends and fellow politicos and they always reply with the proverbial "We have far more pressing issues in this election" to which I reply "We can't chew gum and walk at the same time?" Meaning of course that cannabis rescheduling is but one issue the feds can address while addressing many others....
Sorry, but I'm so tired of hearing about how cannabis reform is not an important issue. Tell it to the thousands rotting in jail for possession or sale of small amounts. Or the person who lost their home and/or livelihood for growing a few plants in their garden. Or the cannabis small business person who hoards cash and risks robbery because they can't use the banking system.....
Lastly, a heart felt angry shout out to the cowards of the New York State Assembly and Senate and Andrew Cuomo who failed the majority of New Yorkers who wanted recreational cannabis use for adults in New York passed in this legislative session. Spineless cowards! 
They aren't cowards, they are molls for the mob. Obama was a shill for Monsanto, Clinton had her handlers too, Trump is the same, protecting the interests of the system. Every penny made outside their control just gets them to resist more. This change is from the ground up, been trying to break the stranglehold every step of the way.
What happened was because it was illegal the cannabis industry grew from independent roots. They have zero corporate lobby power. The big corporate forces missed out on their shot at monopoly. The second Big Pharma and the rest of the mob gets their hooks in presto it will be legal overnight.

Perhaps but there are at present private corporations already cashing in on medicinal and recreational cannabis in the state's who have reformed their laws. But I agree with your point in that they haven't the lobby power needed within the beltway quite yet to reform the federal law.
What I would like to see happen is someone like Mike Bloomberg with his vast resources to push for a ballot initiative in New York for 2020. Including the allowance for a small number of plants to be grown by individuals should they choose. This was not included in the pending law in New York (Probably because New York, ever the overtaxed state it is, wanted ALL the revenue possible and thus didn't want individuals to have the freedom to avoid purchase altogether but grow their own should they choose).
Simultaneously, a well healed individual such as Bloomberg could also push the feds to reschedule cannabis....

I'm just waiting for the Feds to come in and seize the assets of the companies that think raising, selling, and producing pot is legal under FEDERAL LAW. Feds will more than likely grab any tax money that states collected and fine them each day while they still allow fed laws to be broken.
I am all for compassionate use to be legalized for medical use, both physical, and mental. Regulate it like a med.

That's the most frustrating dynamic in the cannabis debate....The double standard opponents always apply in nearly every discussion about cannabis reform. The opponents of reform always cite the potential health risks, gateway drug propaganda, driving while under the influence, keeping it out of the hands of kids, etc....All negative side effects that we've learned to regulate with far more dangerous drugs like alcohol and nicotine.
It's insulting the way certain politicians, public health advocates, and some law enforcement professionals condescend adults who are quite capable of using cannabis responsibly the very same way these adults responsibly use alcohol...

The "responsible use" thing is a total crock. If people drank responsibly, the alcohol industry would collapse. Look at the sheer magnitude of the beer and liquor aisles in supermarkets. There is obviously a consumer demand that is way beyond "responsible use". Simple math says no possible way folks having a couple beers or a glass of wine with dinner is supporting the sale of the vast array and quantity of alcohol on display.
All the alcohol industry is saying with "Drink Responsibly" is "go ahead buy tons of liquor, get sloshed and die, burn a hole in your guts and bleed out, just don't kill anyone while you are at it."

The genie is out of the bottle and there is no turning back from legalization. Recreational Cannabis is now legal in 11 States and Medical in 33. It is legal in Canada as well.
Just a matter of time before the Fed's legalize it but let the States choose there own course IMO.
I live in Massachusetts and had not bought ganja in 40 years. Now that it is legal bought a small amount and I am really enjoying a buzz occasionally especially when spinning some live ABB. Much easier on my head and body then alcohol.
Bought some Sativa for energy and Indica to mellow out. I like the fact that it is regulated and tested so I know what I am getting. Hopefully the tax money is used for something useful like education and infrastructure improvements

Given it's legal to do so in Mass., try growing a few plants of your own....It's very inexpensive and kind of a kick to grow your own cannabis to share with family, friends, etc....Best of all, it's very easy to do especially given you can buy already started little girls right at your dispensary. Or better yet, start from seeds as it's super cheap. You can even buy feminized seeds almost guaranteeing you'll have female plants.
The learning curve is not steep and given all the various strains now available, you can really tailor your plants to your particular taste. From the strain, type of high, dosage of THC and CBD, to the flavor when ingested. Best of all a few plants grown, dried, cured, and stored properly will keep you supplied for years even decades depending upon how much you imbibe or give away to friends and family.

Good point, BrerRabbit.....For the record, I like alcohol too....Especially the renaissance we're experiencing with good crafted beer and local wine and spirits.
But yes, the nation is awash with a neurotoxin and carcinogen that can kill you with a relatively low amount depending upon potency. And chronic use kills thousands of people every year.
So if we can live with and regulate such a destructive drug, why not a much, much more benign and as science has proven, helpful substance like cannabis? Again, the double standard is absurd.
