Not getting much info here on the East Coast about this, but why would 4 armed officers check out a car parked in a private residential driveway in a residential neighborhood w/kids riding bikes (as seen in one video) to follow-up on a tip? And yet another brown man is dead. This time in Phoenix.

They got a tip that a man who assaulted him was sighted in the neighborhood? Credible?
Had the alleged assailant been IDed? Any physical description?
They got the make/model & license plate of parked car in driveway - any info from that? Any outstanding warrants for the owner of the car?
Before approaching car, did anyone check to see if anyone was in the house? secure the neighborhood? Block the driveway so driver couldn't leave?
Did the cops talk to the guy for 10 minutes?
It's legal to have a visible gun in a car in AZ. Did the guy have a gun? If so, why initiate a confrontation by breaking the side/back window?
One bodycam of officer who arrived after the shooting has been released that showed a cluster - not that of the 4 responders.

This is disturbing on so many levels in addition to killing a man. There seems to be little reason to even check out a car on private property w/o a warrant, put civilians inside/outside their houses at risk, & kill a man who wasn't the suspect after all.

So far in the well-publicized cases, we have 4 armed police officers in 3 different cities responding to a phone call from a clerk about a counterfeit $20, a Wendy's employee asking for assistance in moving a car w/a drunk sleeping unarmed man into a parking spot, & a tip that an assailant from a misdemeanor 2 months ago had been seen "around" & all 3 men ended up dead.

I think #Defundthepolice is a misnomer. If the intent is to re-think/re-organize the police, that may be a good thing in certain places - seems a waste of resources to dispatch 4 armed officers in each of these cases. Also seems like the cops skipped over several basic procedures before confrontation.

Here is some police abuse from West Phoenix

I see this is from 2017, but it certainly begs the question of how did it escalate from a turn signal violation in a motel parking lot into tasered genitals in front of 2 children? Looks like all involved were Caucasian.

Agreed. Training, or a definitive LACK thereof....is a huge problem with law enforcement. They are "trained" ONLY to control and have been "trained" to approach scenarios with only a handful of catch phrases...

#1 "We received a call"
#2 "In this day and age"
#3 "I need to see your I.D."

I would guess that less than 50% of ALL officers on duty do NOT know the law, ordinances or statutes they face on a daily basis and when confronted and asked about them resort to the three responses listed above.

EGO has no place in a uniform of perceived authority and usually results in escalation when challenged.

Absolutely. It's not just knowledge of the law, but what I consider common sense & basic police procedures - know who/what you're dealing w/based on information you actually have (license plate, address where suspect is parked, criminal history based on those things) rather than some vague tip, assess the situation (civilians, kids around who shouldn't be put at risk), & use of alternatives to prevent escape (blocking the driveway, calling for backup, blocking the street entrance). Training seems to be sorely deficient. Again, if #Defundthepolice means Give Police Proper Training w/regular tests & updates, I'm all for it. Otherwise, it sounds like people are demanding no law enforcement at all.

True that Pops. I found some body cam footage, unfortunately from an officer that arrived during the shooting, and some cell phone video. Also this site has the 911 call that started it.
Seems to me somebody swatted the guys.
A better sense of what happened will come out when the body cam footage from the responding officers gets released.

I think police should be paid more money. if you offer more money, you will make the job more desirable and attract better potential police officers, weed out the scumbags.

Given that the #Defundthepolice movement wants to cut funds for police, I don't think anyone is going to pay them more. Maybe what they need is a bonus if they manage to move a car blocking the drive-thru at a Wendy's w/o killing the driver & shooting up a car w/3 civilians in it.

This is why you should always film the Police and the Courts have protected that right. Until private footage shows up, we are led to believe the Police have always followed the "Proper protocol"....

Right

Still looking for the release of the body cam footage of the officers involved.
Would like to see if the claims of him raising the firearm toward the police is correct.

Guessing the RI 14 year old has some troubles after being arrested for gunning down a contractor working outside a Providence home - especially since the victim was not the intended target, police said

Nine shot, including a 4 year old girl, one dead, three critical in Monday morning Wash DC drive by

In another unprovoked attack, a promising Michigan track & field athlete, murdered
A mere slight sampling of recent gun violence

Also, for the last few weeks, “CV Positive Tests, Deaths Skyrocketing To Record Levels” has been a daily headline
Why The EFF then are we being told how vitally important it is to stay the course & keep doing what we’re doing???
Something doesn’t add up & w/that comes the inevitable smell - bad at 1st, then a rotten stench.....

Yes the long hot summer continues
