The Form 4473 requires you to give up your 5th Amendment rights.

What? So not true.

OK, you're stopped for a traffic violation. The policeman asks you the following questions and you can only answer yes or no.

Are you a fugitive from justice?
Are you an unlawful user of, or addicted to, marijuana or any depressant, stimulant, narcotic drug, or any other controlled substance?
Are you an alien illegally in the US?

what would your response be to the questions?

The form does not REQUIRE you to give up anything. Filling out the form is completely voluntary. If you can answer YES to any of those questions, then you are disqualified from owning a gun. If you don't know that before filling the form as part of a gun purchase, then you certainly know it when you get to those questions at which point you have a choice to walk away, answer truthfully, or lie.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but if you wish to legally purchase a firearm from a dealer, you HAVE to fill out the form. There's no walking away from it, no giving wrong answers (giving a false answer on the form is a hefty fine and possible jail time), so you have to give up your 5th Amendment protections.

You are missing the point. If your thruthful answer to any of those questions is yes then you are a criminal and have already forfeited your second amendment rights. I'm sure lots of criminals lie on the form and are able to purchase a firearm and have it look legal. But if you are legally entitled to own a firearm, the form doesn't hinder buying one.
