It's ok to discriminate against nominees because they are white and straight?

Everything is about your race, your ethnicity, your sex more than ever. I thought we were supposed to be moving beyond race, religion, ethic background and sexual preferences? Instead, that is what some Democrats boil everything down to.
Enter Senator Tammy Duckworth who said she would vote not on any remaining nominees until more "diversity" candidates.
“I am a no vote on the floor, on all non-diversity nominees. You know, I will vote for racial minorities and I will vote for LGBTQ, but anybody else I’m not voting for,” she told reporters.
She has since backed off that position after "assurances" of more diversity.
Would it be ok for a black representative to say "I am only going to vote for black nominees", or "I will not vote for non-black nominees". Like it'd be ok for a white representative to say "I won't vote for non-white nominees" right?
This cabinet is already the most diverse ever, yet, it's never enough for some and they can threaten and demand they want more. To a person like Duckworth, qualifications and the content of one's character matters not, the color of one's skin matters all - the exact opposite Martin Luther King advocated. And this is a US Senator.

Thanks for posting this. I emailed the link to the article to myself so I could use it as further ammunition. It shocks the hell out of me that a lawmaker would actually say they are going to make decisions regarding nominees based on race and sexual orientation.
