Is the Whipping Post the new Playpen?

Starting to get that same quiet cavernous feel.

It might as well be the new playpen. I think it’s all starting to jump the shark.
The interesting conservative posters are long gone, leaving the political discussions to several liberal posters and one moron right-winger who adds nothing.
A good debate is impossible nowadays without some idiot spewing their low-rent hateful views disguised as a “political opinion”, which is all protected from being called out for what it is and who they are.
If the hate is protected, and the quality posters have left, then I’m not sure what there is to do here.

I get busy and post less. My most active time is usually winter when there is nothing else to do!
Can't say why or where other people go. It's been mentioned before, lots of other outlets. But actually, I see less activity on alot of message boards I frequent, be it sports or automotive related. Internet forums and discussions that once took place on many of them, that I see, are dying down - it isn't just here.
I kind of blame phones. People use their phones for everything and when you are on a internet forum talking about things, typically you need to type alot. With the phones, people don't want to type alot.
Anyway, sorry, I want to be more involved here...just life is going on you know. Busy.

No one will be believe this and that's cool but I posted once years ago that the WP would whittle itself down to a handful of liberals. Almost there.
Politics aside, there are a few pretty cool threads every now and then.

Good call. Well, as above so below: The rotten imperial world was whittled down to a handful of liberals by 1776. That handful of liberals created the modern Free World. Never underestimate the power of a handful of liberals!

It took a Republican to make it a truly free world 89 years later.

Ball-washing is not very interesting, and too predictable. even my dog get bored of licking his own balls.

. . .my dog get bored of licking his own balls.
Hahaha - you sure seem to be up to date on your dog's hygiene practices. Bored of licking his own balls? Maybe your dog would appreciate if you livened things up some, maybe some peanut butter on your action, let your bored dog clean you up?

...or his fanus.

Peanut butter fanal doglick? Jif or Skippy? Not good. Not good at all. Frank Zappa would be proud of the lyrical possibilities though.

Facebook is slowly killing itself and when folks finally flee it will get busy again.

Never saw the big attraction to Facefook. People get all addicted and tangled up, really a mindf*ck scene.

Makes sense that The Allman Brothers fan base is mostly liberal.

No wonder the conservatives were always so sensitive and defensive here. They were just lonely and misunderstood. Must be weird to be like that but love radical hippie music.
Still seems weird that Mulemind vanished right around the time that Coast Guard guy got busted. Maybe they are all busy in their basements prepping their arsenals in case their king gets deposed.

Speaking of "Ball-washing"...
"Trump to award Tiger Woods with the Presidential Medal of Freedom" 😛

As to your dog (mine too), as the saying goes, "Because they can!" Cheers!

Agreed. They can’t understand why their ignorant judgments aren’t welcome among an Allman Brothers crowd, and then get hurt feelings over it. Almost like they never grew up, and still in the grade school playground mentality.

It must suck to realize that the only rock music that matches your mindset is Nugent.

I actually believe that an Allman Brothers crowd has a very diverse set of political beliefs from all over the spectrum. It's a certain behavior that isn't welcome.

If the WP is any indicator, a minority of cons was the majority when it came to holiness. That special kind of holiness: @ss-holiness.
Sorry if that makes the oinker lurkers mad, but it is simple arithmetic, I didn't make it up. Now that they have ceded the field, I can enjoy some getback.
Heard some noise about they left because they were offended or bored. Doesn't matter, when two adversaries are in a space, and one side abandons their position, for whatever reason, that is generally called "losing", and the one that remains is the "winner".
Sayonara LOSERS. You always made me as sick as I made you. You are not missed.

Originally came to HTW in search of Watkins Glen tapes, with happy memories of hippie daze - fun and brotherhood. It wasn't long before I found the ugly undercurrent of southern rock. Had never seen that before. It is a stain on the Allman Brothers to include them with that trip. Almost made me start hating the ABB, that they could attract these types, then realized it had nothing to do with them, they are all cool. Now I can barely listen to southern rock any more without wanting to throw up.
Southern Rock is what killed the ABB in the 70s.

Absolutely. I found this site and immediately starting contributing to the group, recordings I had made, collected and traded. Sharing stories of the old days at Winterland, The Cow Palace and venues in L.A. Meeting members of the band over the decades and conversing about the music....Definitely the soundtrack of my life....

The original concept was okay, a happy community but then money got in the way and information selling became a reality.

There really was no quintessential southern rock in the first place. You had groups of musicians from the south making music. Their roots, their sounds were their own. The only thing they could find to tie them together and stick a label on it was the dual guitar sound and that was what they used to define it. The music itself is as diverse as the players who performed it. It was a happier time in history signalling moving on from the chaos, confusion of the 60's /the war era. What came after the 70's was horrible, we survived disco and the new wave came and alienated people, that morhped into punk rock and rap came to synthesize and adopt the anger of all the people who were just frustrated, fed up and disenfranchised. They hated everything and everyone but decided to chill and be clever so people would listen to it. It's hard to understand women who fought for liberation accepted the denigration of women from that music and nobody protested or said anything because the music was rhythmic and you kind of liked it. If you look at all things, this thing they called southern rock wasn't bad at all.

It's easier to have a twitter war than to type on a forum.

Wow - good stuff gina, if somewhat oversimplified . . . I certainly do not think music got worse, I think folks got trapped in tbeir nostalgia and stopped listening for new sounds and styles.
You certainly nailed it on the misogyny point - true, yet that is the blues as sung from the male perspective - female blues is pretty harsh on men too.
That said, nice job salvaging "southern rock" from my flamethrower - yeah for sure, a lot of beauty and goodness there, maybe the most high flying that said it all for me was "Take the Highway".
It was when I fell into the Whipping Post and "smelled that smell", the cordite and bile, the stench of the RocknRoll Gettysburg, seemed like sorock was a rallying point for some pretty negative vibrations.
Watkins Glen would have been a Gettysburg in the past - you get a youthquake, traditionally in history we gather in those numbers to kill each other off. We beat that cycle, maybe for the first time in the history of mankind. The cannons were guitars, the glory was euphoria, the armies were hippies. Might never happen again.
Well done folks!
Just getting some last digs and kudos in, am thinking this is goodbyesville pretty soon.
Peace. Keep on truckin

Kinda the same here.
I haven't gotten here very often lately. Getting ready to plant stuff. So far got corn, squash, cucumbers, watermelons, blueberry bushes, put grass seed in the front yard, cut a new walking trail through the vineyard, trimming trees and all the work that goes with that. Not to mention keeping wood cut and split for the fireplace.
Of course I've also spent some time getting my spine back into shape while doing this.
Most of my medications come with the warning "Do not drive or operate heavy machinery while taking this medicine." One comes with FOUR PAGES of possible side effects. I take three of those a day. Then there's the codeine.
So sometimes I felt it would be best to not post what I was thinking at the time, since what I thought I read might not be what was on the page.
Of course, it could be that people that think like me got together and decided to let you see just how this place would be without us.
PS: Mueller report is out and I've already got a copy. Wonder why the title page says Volume I ?

I don't know but I suspect there is more to come from the Mueller report but it needed so much redaction that they had to make more than one volume, because nobody wanted to wait anymore for it to be released so they released what they could but might be more to come. Mr. Cohen (Trump's former sexy lawyer) says he will testify and fill in the redactions. So apparently it ain't over till it's over. He wants the Democrats to save him from going to jail...

Even though there are a few pages totally redacted, there really isn't much done to this one.

I've yet to read or skim the report but I can't let this one go:
Mr. Cohen (Trump's former sexy lawyer)
Does Gina have a crush? It's cool I find lots of people sexy.

Good to hear from you Jerry. Wish I was closer to you I'd offer to give you a hand.
