IMTS 2016
LOL...I went to this show every other year from 1980 through 2008 as part of my job. It's held in Chicago every even numbered year and in Tokyo every odd numbered year, at least that's how they used to do it. Never expected to run across it on this website.
LOl i've gone every 2 years since 1988, except this year. still recovering from gall bladder removal. not really recovering, more getting used to diet and what comes out. i wasn't comfortable doing all that walking this year. i figure i have spent 6 months of my life at that show.
i have an employee who has been to, i think, every show since 1968. it was still at the stockyards back then. he went up monday for a day.

I would come from Detroit. My trips were usually 3 days/2 nights and I scheduled them according to the Cubs home game schedule. As the years went by I spent less time at the show and more at games, concerts, and bars. I remember in 1984 I happened to show up at the same time as Walter Mondale, who was making a campaign stop there. What a fiasco that was!
Democratic convention one year, i think it was 96, Clinton was staying at the Sheraton, i was at the Holiday Inn. frickin place was crawling with drunken convention people. did you go to railroad earth at HOB in 2008? seen a few diff shows thru the years while up there.
I've seen Railroad Earth a few times but not in Chicago.
i wanted to go look at the additive manufacturing area this year. that is a scary industry as far as the future of manufacturing goes. did you see this story from a couple days ago?

Yep, 3D printing is pretty cool.
LOL thats pretty scary but i meant if they can print a jet engine in next 5 years?, they can print anything. only thing holding that back is building the printers. if, strike that, when they do that will be rapid change in manufacturing worldwide. will kill millions of jobs. almost all suppliers for manufacturing will disappear. all bars and restaurants to feed them will be gone and office supplys and cleaning services.........additive manufacturing is the future but i'm afraid of where the people will go.
free trade is not what you should fear.....its machines
LOL
it is possible that printed parts will still require machining...grinding for tighter fits....super special applications. roughing operations will go away.
