Well Mitch McConnell thought he put it to rest, by garnering support from fellow Democrats to increase the debt ceiling when the emergency measure put in place expires on September 30th, but now Trump has said if he doesn't get some money to start building that wall, he may allow a govt. shutdown to happen.
The 30th is the day after Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement in the Jewish Calendar. Anything can happen.

Shouldn't he be talking to Mexico about paying for the wall. That was his promise. He only said it about a billion times. Not once did I hear him say the US taxpayers would be paying for it. Come on Mr. Great Negotiator, get Mexico to pay for it or stop crying about it.

The wall is going to cost $120 per US taxpayer. Maybe Comrade Mule can go ahead and send in his money, plus maybe he can cover the cost for the rest of us since congress will never approve it. This is the issue in a nutshell. The liar in the White House said at countless campaign stops that Mexico would pay for the wall. Mexico has stated that it will not. So now Trump wants the US taxpayer to pony up for a pet project that the majority of Americans don't want to pay for. "The conservative-leaning Rasmussen Reports poll finds that 37 percent of likely voters said the U.S. should construct a border wall in an effort to curb illegal immigration." That's somewhere around Trump's approval rating. Not much to brag about there for a willingness to want to pay for a wall by an unpopular President.
In addition, the $ Trump wants is nothing more than symbolic and would only pay for an iota of the "great campaign promise" wall.
