It is rather strange and suspicious that only the Clinton camp's emails get hacked by the Russians. Where is the fairness there?

The FBI has been conducting a preliminary inquiry into Donald Trump's former campaign manager Paul Manafort's foreign business connections, law enforcement and intelligence sources told NBC News Monday.

Word of the inquiry, which has not blossomed into a full-blown criminal investigation, comes just days after FBI Director James Comey's disclosure that his agency is examining a new batch of emails connected to an aide to Hillary Clinton.

And it comes a day after Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid criticized Comey's revelation and asserted that Comey possesses "explosive information about close ties and coordination between Donald Trump, his top advisors, and the Russian government."

This is a fascinating article from Slate of hackers and their investigation into Trump Tower/Russian communication.

Was a Trump Server Communicating With Russia?

This spring, a group of computer scientists set out to determine whether hackers were interfering with the Trump campaign. They found something they weren’t expecting.

Or the irony that many of the people who have historically believed this are the people who are voting for Trump. Or the same people who have long cast the heaviest moral shadow have no trouble supporting a guy who openly grabs female genitals. The world has really changed.

These are good questions. The US used to openly protect corporate interests abroad by installing dictators in places like Chile, Guatemala and the Dominican Republic. The Soviets had their own states that they supported. In Asia and Africa old colonial interests and connections dictated how markets worked. People knew who was in charge.

All of this has changed. It could be that following someone like Trump and exploring his 5000 or so business deals globally might give us a better sense of what is going on. Trump is clearly a player. Look at the way he throws his weight around. He has no morals, no ethos, no code of conduct that dictates his behavior and the way he interacts with people. Every criminal must be in awe of Trump as he is obviously connected to somebody or how could be get away with eschewing every societal norm he encounters. Gangsters used to visit restaurants with their entourages and demonstrate their power by openly not paying their bills. Trump doesn't care who he insults. He has now decided to not pay his pollster. He picks through the trades and services and he pays what he feels like paying. Until Hillary Clinton--and for a brief period Little Marco--no one has confronted him. Trump as a private citizen demanded President Obama produce his birth certificate and he complied. Yet he has refused to release his tax returns. THAT IS POWER! What is Donald Trump's place in the overall scheme of things? No one has a clue.

Well, maybe there is a clue

Mother Jones has reviewed that report and other memos this former spy wrote. The first memo, based on the former intelligence officer's conversations with Russian sources, noted, "Russian regime has been cultivating, supporting and assisting TRUMP for at least 5 years. Aim, endorsed by PUTIN, has been to encourage splits and divisions in western alliance." It maintained that Trump "and his inner circle have accepted a regular flow of intelligence from the Kremlin, including on his Democratic and other political rivals." It claimed that Russian intelligence had "compromised" Trump during his visits to Moscow and could "blackmail him." It also reported that Russian intelligence had compiled a dossier on Hillary Clinton based on "bugged conversations she had on various visits to Russia and intercepted phone calls."

The major reason for focusing on the top stories is that in addition to Trump's own conciliatory and complimentary remarks about Putin, they represent evidence of a relationship between the Trump camp and Russia. Since Russia is seen as the source for the hacking of Clinton files, and their release by WikiLeaks, it would seem that some kind of FBI investigation would be taking place.

FBI's Comey opposed naming Russians, citing election timing: Source

FBI Director James Comey argued privately that it was too close to Election Day for the United States government to name Russia as meddling in the U.S. election and ultimately ensured that the FBI's name was not on the document that the U.S. government put out, a former bureau official tells CNBC.

The official said some government insiders are perplexed as to why Comey would have election timing concerns with the Russian disclosure but not with the Huma Abedin email discovery disclosure he made Friday.

In the end, the Department of Homeland Security and The Office of the Director of National Intelligence issued the statement on Oct. 7, saying: "The U.S. intelligence community is confident that the Russian Government directed the recent compromises of emails from U.S. persons and institutions, including from U.S. political organizations. ... These thefts and disclosures are intended to interfere with the U.S. election process."

It's confusing as to why Comey, just to be even handed, did not release a similar letter about an FBI concern or investigation over Trump and any relation of his camp to Russia.
