Um, to be specific, yes today's pop music sucks, blows chunks, is artificial, whatever adjective you'd like to express.

However, arguably there is more music of a higher quality than ever, if you so inclined to be affiliated with the extended musical community on this site. We all share our favorite bands, and the message spreads organically via these message boards.

A long time ago, there was a thing called free form radio, where we were exposed to all kinds of music. Now we are lucky to have sites like this one to spread the good word.

there just has to be, but nothing jumps immediately to mind. Strange. Somehow all the rock cliches would be kind of weird if the gender roles were reversed: Cowboy in the Sand. I don't think so. Cinnamon Boy. Not good. Foxy Laddie. Ummm....

For starters, pretty much anything by Taylor Swift. In fact I bet there are a ton of them within the "country" genre. Then there is "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman" by Aretha Franklin also comes to mind. "Ain't No Other Man" by Christina Aguilera. "You Need to Be with Me" by Susan Tedeschi (and she must have a few more). Nicki Minaj has several (my nieces love her). And how could we forget that 80s classic, "It's Rainin' Men" by The Weather Girls. 😛

I am an old woman named after my mother
My old man is another child that's grown old
If dreams were lightning thunder was desire
This old house would have burnt down a long time ago

Make me an angel that flies from Montgom'ry
Make me a poster of an old rodeo
Just give me one thing that I can hold on to
To believe in this living is just a hard way to go

When I was a young girl well, I had me a cowboy
He weren't much to look at, just free rambling man
But that was a long time and no matter how I try
The years just flow by like a broken down dam.

There's flies in the kitchen I can hear 'em there buzzing
And I ain't done nothing since I woke up today.
How the hell can a person go to work in the morning
And come home in the evening and have nothing to say.

I don't get all the dislike for electronic music. I think that genre has been making some great music. Also think this is a good era for seeing live bands.

Alice Cooper in a recent interview raved about these kids from Ireland, The Strypes...when this was recorded the singer was 17, the rest of the band 18, now they are 18 and 19 respectively, great album, I hear Beatles, early Stones, early Who, etc:

Good stuff! 😛
I'd go see those guys do a show in a NY minute.

Live from this year.

Wow, those kids are Good. I like it!

I like these kids too, out of Canada

DAYTONA DEMON - SUZI QUATRO

"Daytona Demon"

Ride me, ride you
We do anything we wanna do
Speed you, speed me, you're my machine
Daytona demon, Daytona demon
Daytona demon, Daytona demon
Ride up, ride down
Let your motor make me heaven bound
Hang in, hang on, turn me on
Daytona demon, Daytona demon
Daytona demon...wow

He's my Daytona demon
He's my souped up heavy hung he man
He's my D-d-daytona demon, my machine
He's my Daytona demon
He's my fast lovin' sin soaked heathen
He's my D-d-daytona demon, my machine

Feel good, oh feel free
And I know he always feels like me
He drives fast, drives hard, drives with me
Daytona demon, Daytona demon
Daytona demon, Daytona demon
And they love to see
My demon when he's driving me
Like a man made machine, he's so mean
Daytona demon, Daytona demon
Daytona demon...wow

He's my Daytona demon
He's my souped up heavy hung he man
He's my D-d-daytona demon, my machine
He's my Daytona demon
He's my fast lovin' sin soaked heathen
He's my D-d-daytona demon, my machine

Ride...ride...ride...ride
Daytona demon, Daytona demon
Daytona demon...wow

He's my Daytona demon...

Just HAD to post this here! Grin

So, just how much kick-a$$ music can two guys make, one on bass and one on drums?

Apparently, quite a bit!

Royal Blood

Cool

When I grew up here in Macon, we had AM 1400 WNEX. Listening on an afternoon you would hear the Stones, Beatles, Johnny Cash, The Drifters, Sam&Dave, Hank Williams, Cream, Percy Sledge, The Byrds, Little Rascals, Little Richard, Tammy Wynette, Gladys Knight, Supremes, just a huge mix of almost all genres. The adult groups like to listen almost as much as we did. We also had WIBB which in daytime was country, night time all R&B and soul.

YES!!!!!!!!!
I grew up in the 90's and the music sucked then. Potentally Good bands sining bout depressing shit.
May I qoute Ron White
"There's two types of music.... The Allman Brothers Band and NOT The Allman Brothers Band!!!!"

Today's top 40 radio consist of badly recorded electronic mixes and shitty souless guitars.(emo) stands for emotional..less wine asses that can barely play in one key let alone a couple of keys.( Last time I heard a key change was when I was writing music.) There's WAY to many choruses just repeated over and over for 2 min.then the rest of the 39 songs sound worst then #1.

If anyone watches "Criminal Minds" there was an episode with the Piano Man Killer. Reid figured out his age by the music played at the crime scene; stated that no music ever has the emotional effect on us as that we hear when we are 14. Hence every generation feeling the next has music that sucks. But think about your tastes; my favorites were right around that age. As is the fact that listening on an Ipod or CD just doesn't evoke the same emotions that throwing on a full LP and listening to it pop for 20 minutes

Love this show, best crime drama on TV, IMO. And they always seems to tie music into the plot in some way, and there are a couple of sites that track the music that has been on the show that are easily found via google. Love the characters, and it doesn't hurt that AJ Cook might be the hottest woman on the planet. I know that episode...don't remember that line but I know never to doubt Dr. Reid. 😉

Side note: a friend of mine who is an actor guest starred on an episode...played an Atlantic City detective on episode called "The Uncanny Valley" in Season 5 about a woman obsessed with dolls who abducted women and turned them into dolls, Jonathan Frakes from Star Trek also guest starred. Anyway, my friend has guested on a lot of shows and said that this was the coolest cast he had worked with and just fun to be around...considering the subject matter of the show, they try to keep the mood light when the camera is not rolling.

That was a great episode; the Kathy Bates type lady. And yeah; once they got rid of Mandy Patankin they seem like a lot of fun. AJ is perhaps the hottest woman alive - when her hair is behind her ears. My wife (who knows me well) can't believe I'm that fussy but the damn lady is a ten with a pair of two ears. We all have our schtick
