Derek Chauvin was investigated AT LEAST 17 times during his tenure with the Minneapolis police department including the incident highlighted here when he dragged a woman from her car FOR SPEEDING.

Shouldn't we be taking a very hard look at how officers are trained AND RETAINED at police departments instead of kneeling at football games?

I once lived in a state where a "three strikes" law was proposed for violent criminals. Third conviction lands you in the big house. 17 offenses? If it works for street criminals, it should work for rogue cops.

I'd wager most cops have an accusation on their record. Some criminals flee or resist arrest, get a shiner, and then have nothing better to do with their time awaiting trial than to claim "police brutality".

But then there are the bad cops that do go too far, and the criminals who cried "wolf" make it more difficult to sort out the crap cops from the good guys. Add to that how cops protect their own, cops who report other cops are considered "rats" like some kind of bizarro mafia. The head of the Minneapolis Police Union sounds like a complete sh1t.

So it's up to us. Chauvin proves we need to police the police. Body cams are great, but had someone not been filming Floyd being murdered with his face in the pavement, Chauvin would still be on the street.

Chauvin did 2 stints in the army as a Military Police Sept 1996 to Feb 1997 Four months
Sept 1999 to May 2000 Eight months.

In 2011 he fired at a man running from another shooting. You are only supposed to shoot at someone coming at you. The only ones allowed to shoot at people from behind are snipers. They shoot people in the back and look for the red dot to know they got him. I guess because there are ribs in the front, easier to shoot in the back.

In 2008 shot a domestic assault suspect.

In 2006 shot and killed a suspect who had a gun.

We can surmise he had a penchant for justice and punishment of wrongdoers. But with 17 IAD complaints maybe his idea of how his perspective on carrying out justice differed from those he encountered in his job.
