Debate ...

In one word - OUCH.
Nothing resembling "Presidential" from either guy. Trump refusing to answer questions that were asked - trippin off into Qanon land with stuff about "post-birth abortions". Biden ... like watching a computer mainframe literally melt before your eyes.
The only change in my voting plans might be to return to my original idea of just not voting at all. I honestly DO NOT want either of these two candidates for memory care treatment in the White House. I do not want to chose a lesser evil.
Yeah, it was ugly.

I could only watch a couple minutes here and there, due to both of them. Back in 2020 Biden was the right candidate, but I was always worried about 2024. It's disappointing Republicans are still cuckolds to Trump, who is responsible for the worst attack on our Capitol and the deaths of several people who defended it. But, here we are.
There's no mystery about either candidate, they are as far apart on issues as you can be (and Trump can't help but lie about every small detail). I am a fan of Biden's administration - we have had stability after 4 years of chaos - but maybe it's time for Kamala to step in.

Biden stumbled early and it was embarrassing. I thought he recovered pretty nicely. I'd still rather have him than a criminal who incited an insurrection and wanted to bomb drug labs in Mexico. Read A Sacred Oath by Mark Esper (Trump's Secretary Of Defense) for more on that. Esper also said that Trump fired him because he dared to contradict Trump on some of his ridiculous foreign policy stances. Any exchange of office from a former Secretary Of Defense to a new one MUST include a detailed transfer of information as this involves policy stances which if not relayed in detail could potentially endanger the safety of you, me, and every other American citizen. Yet there was NONE of this. YOU'RE FIRED, no discussion, NOTHING. I'd rather have a President who stumbled a bit in a debate than the extremely dangerous redhead.

I just couldn't watch hardly any of whatever that was last night. It's embarrassing that these are the candidates put forth by their parties. Just sad. Biden seemed almost disoriented much of the time, wasn't forceful making his points/counterpoints. How could you tell when Trump was lying? His lips were moving.
I definitely feel that Trump is a danger to this country, our system of democracy, and personal freedoms. If re-elected I don't believe that he will leave office once a second term should end, he'll put forth some bogus unsupported reason why elections can't be held at that time so he must remain in office until they can be held (or something similar). Biden just seems infirm by appearance and a declined individual from four years ago.
There's still no way in hell I'd ever vote for Trump.
"Is that a real poncho or is that a Sears poncho?"

@robslob It's not Joe's stumbling in the debate. We're talking about a person with "sole access to nuclear codes/launches" - that kind of stuff. This article from the Birmingham News hits some key points of concerns over BOTH candidates. It also poses (as I have over the last 4 years) the question of HOW, in a country with 330 MILLION citizens - we end up with these two super-senior citizens as the leading candidate for "leader of the world".
And not to beleaguer the point, but for the past year I have been volunteering at the "senior care center" where my dementia-ridden aunt now lives. I can tell you that there are a few folks in their very late 90s and early 100s who are sharp as a tack. These are anomalies for the most part. Most in their mid-80s are ... alright for the most part. They can have moments of great clarity and even wisdom. 30 minutes later, the same folks can be found wondering the hallways lost. Sometimes, they've even soiled themselves. This is typical among folks the age of Joe Biden and Donald Trump. I am not making this stuff up and it brings me no joy to to point it out.
Reading reader comments on a story on Fox News (know thy enemy!) - and found a great point on the Democrats at large. One that I agree with. That point being - why do the Democrats not have a good "bench"? This is typically the party of younger folks with fresher approaches and ideas. With all the love and respect for our aging President, I have to ask - why isn't there an entire CAMP or platoon of younger and charismatic political minds being developed? I'm afraid that Biden's ship has been severely scuttled.

@rusty People look for easily answers and don't want to dig deeper into issues. There was a lineup of younger candidates in 2020 but voters went with the safe bet, the name they already knew even if they didn't know much about him (our primary process is stupid, by the way). And this year no one in his own party wanted to expose any of Biden's weaknesses.
The loudest news media outlets know that making people furious is the best way for maximum engagement, and solving issues would ruin that. Politicians know this too, if everything is fine a new candidate has no purpose. So a candidate can get some airtime by kicking dirt. And the GOP is afraid to offend its own Trump-worshipping base. Other than a few MAGAt radicals, they're held hostage by a guy who isn't even really a Republican and are too afraid to say anything until they are on their way out of office.
All nothing people here don't already know. I just don't know how you fix the process, but it's our own fault for not reading newspapers. Even though she had a lot of supporters, the DNC kind of anointed Hillary Clinton in 2016 rather than giving us the next generation of candidates. I'm hopeful for a President Pete Buttigieg administration some day - he's probably the most qualified person for the job.

So, Trump now says (with certainty?) that Biden is quitting the race. I saw this clip on NBC this morning - then it seems to have vanished. Trump calls Biden a "tired, washed up ...", says that Kamala is better but she's still "horrible". He uses various dismissive terms, including the "F-word". Classy dude.
Is Trump correct in his assessment or is he displaying his own case of mind-on-vacation?

well-put questions Rusty - leading to another equally pertinent one (imo)
who in their right mind would even want to run for president?
You need an endless supply of money - what you stand for often gets misinterpreted & you end up w/trash on your name - who needs it
this imo could be why the field is so thin w/no one on the horizon (the bench as you said🤙👍
it also imo speaks to what you said, that our system for this stuff is BROKEN - hopefully not irretrievably or beyond repair

“Trump Uses Gish Gallop” to wreck debates
know i read it, it’s paraphrased, don’t know who or what it is, never heard of it/him/her
so again, my ignorance in what I’m writing about comes thru - proof, something that had to do w/a “deepfake robocall” months ago in NH, I thought at first was related to football
the think tankers/loud talkers/cognoscenti/sharp cookies/those in the know who (say they) know the answer
continue to believe we are doomed under Donald
remark, debate returns next week & i41 believe that in his freewheeling grassroots shoot-from-the-hip firebrand common-man plain-talking way, that wily old-timer just might have something up his sleeve - a ‘trick play’ so to speak - that the moderator can’t overrule & tips the debate in his, Donald’s, favor
then hush, hush, I thought I heard stormy calling my name……money sentence handed down the week after that, sept 18
then Jan 6 trial
followed by election tampering, fraud, stealing, take your pick - after that
all just in time as Trump forces celebrate the 4th anniversary on Jan 6 ‘25, the return of president-elect Donald Trump to where the American majority & electoral college, say he belongs
at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.

Where he belongs is in jail. How any woman or vet would vote for this guy defies any type of logic.

that’s where he might end up - behind bars
it depends imo on outcome of election
he can’t be sentenced to prison & trundled off to jail as president-elect, federal conviction or not
but if he loses the election, that would make incarceration-in-retirement more likely imho
✌️the fact that sentencing day has been ppd until after the election throws both into chaos imo
election day Nov 5, and sentencing day after that
….of a newly-elected president
🇺🇸as a typical American - in the election, heart says Don, head says Kam - it’s an election literally like no other
would like to see Trump win for many reasons, but he must agree to one term only, based on age restrictions & evidence
it might be that already based on time served (first term) - I don’t kno, & here again, ignorance
…at any rate, grooming all-the-while, his VP Vance as next in line, just as Biden groomed Harris these past four years
good luck to the candidates on Tuesday & this fall🇺🇸

some stuff needs to be rewritten occasionally, esp the quote
I’d like it to say
”as Americans celebrate on Jan 20 ‘25 the return of president-elect…..”
also
re the part of the quote that reads, “as Trump forces celebrate the 4th anniversary on Jan 6 ‘25….”
NO
that was wrong to say - it suggests/implies that Trump supporters ‘celebrate’ the Jan 6 uprising as a victory - there were no victors
correctly written, the ‘celebrating’ aspect of the post should apply to Jan 20, not Jan 6
there can be no victors in war, & no losers in peace
Jan 6 wasn’t a war obviously, but the principle still applies, & imo was a key in reinstatement of the will of the people back to the GOP
blowing in on freedom’s wind, the people said, we have the best chance of prosperity & a peaceful world under Trump
🇺🇸🎶🥧 let’s all be Americans ⚾️🌭🇺🇸

Well, he won convincingly and as a result, we're going to close that border and political correctness and cancel culture can take a hike.
Loving every minute of it. Add, we're rid of that cackling moron who was about as fit to be the leader of the free world as Bob the jacuzzi salesman.
