You guys probably remember Bill Curry as a call in guest on Mike and Mike from time to time. They loved him. I don't know as much about him as you guys seem to but he seemed to know the game quite well. He seemed to be a very good interview.
Everything in Moderation. Including Moderation.
Ray Perkins was building a powerhouse. He left the playoff contending NY Giants to come back to Alabama. His problem was he was arrogant and didn’t play well with others. He left to accept incredible $$ (for that era) to coach at UA alumnus owned Tampa Bay. It didn’t work out well there either.
Bill Curry was a product of UA president Joab Thomas who wanted to institute a more Ivy League atmosphere. That too did not work.
All the ‘Mike’s’ were desperate hires because of fan desires or probation issues. It was rumored that Tom Coughlan wanted the job at that time but was not interviewed.
Saban came in, cleaned house and took charge. We are seeing the results. The whole University in all aspects is kicking ass as a result of the Saban hire.
Less than 20 days now til season starts!
I was off the grid for a few days...missed some great numbers 16-14.
This is a rather iconic moment in the Holy War, from 2006.
We've done a college pick'em league every year since 2009.
I can't find out who won last year, or who was the highest finisher from our site (league had some other non-ABB forum players).
Does anyone want to do a league this year? Yahoo did not offer a league last year, but it is back this year. I paid the registration fee for us to play officefootballpool last year.
Interest?
Going to San Jose State's opener on 8/28 vs. Southern Utah. Looks like my Spartans scheduled a patsy for their opener, SU was 1-5 last year and they play in some minor conference, can't even remember which one. Things get tough right away though, the following week my Spartans are at USC! They certainly are not a well known program but they have never shied away from playing the powerhouses either. If they play anywhere near the level they were at last year I could see them giving USC a game.
@nebish: Funny you bring that up I was with my buddy at the Giants game Wednesday and we were talking about who Spartans would have at wide receiver because they lost their top two guys from last year. They always seem to bring in some great guys, hell, who would not want to play there. They are Mountain West champs and QB Nick Starkel who just tore up the Conference last year got a 5th year of eligibility so he's back one more time. You can bet yer booty that plenty of NFL programs are taking a real hard look at this dude. Just one hell of an arm, and accurate as well. I'm sure you know if you win The Mountain West Conference you are no damn slouch football team.........we're talking Boise St., San Diego State, Nevada, Hawaii, Fresno State, Air Force.
Think for rattling my cage, I need to go to www.sjsuspartans.com and see if I can find out what WR's they have on board. Opener is only one week from tomorrow.
@nebish: I just looked and it looks like they are set. Just like them because they have a history of sending a lot of WR's into the NFL. They have no less than FOUR wide receivers who are in their third year with San Jose State and one other guy who is in his second year. I remember 3rd year guy Isaiah Holiness (what an awesome name!) saw him make some big plays last year and he doubles at running back. They are set, they didn't even have to bring anybody in! With QB Starkel getting a 5th year of eligibility, the pass offense should be incredible once again.
@robslob, some smoke about Carson Strong's knee. He has successful offseason surgery and structurally it is good, but it hasn't healed well enough, to the point he hasn't been practicing and it has been causing him some trouble. San Jose doesn't play Nevada until 11/6, just assuming Nevada will again be a top contender in the division. I think Fresno will be quite a bit better this year, that makes for an interesting closer to the regular season schedule for San Jose.
If you want to put some money on someone. Go Pitt +9.
May not happen. But they could win 10 this year and I won’t be surprised and you win some good money.
This is the last free Saturday! I'm going to go to a movie and dinner with my wife. After today, every Saturday is taken until 2022!

Which Pitt wager are you referring to? Their win total is only 6.5 or 7.

On most gambling sites you can take altnerate lines, move the win total and get better (or worse) odds. I bet them up to 9 wins.
In Kenny Pickett you trust. Man, needing them to win 10 games to cash the ticket is a tall ask. But I'm sure you have some good odds on that?
I placed win totals bets on these:
Duke Ov 3.5
Georgia St Ov 5
South Alabama Ov 4.5
Stanford Ov 4
Tulane Ov 5
Utah Ov 8.5
UTEP Ov 3
Washington Ov 8.5
Western Kentucky Ov 5.5
Auburn Und 7.5
Buffalo Und 8
Reggie Bush was an obvious one, so I picked a different #5. It's game week!!
