Good luck with the first "half' of the season. 😉 Pretty tough sledding for Kneebraska. I hope Meeechigan can go over .500. Another tough schedule. This might be an odd pick but I like Purdue's schedule. Not sure who their QB is but other than Ohio State I can see them doing well.

Last night I ran into this guy I know that also works as I do at Northwestern. I asked him if he had heard anything from them and he hadn't. He does the sideline markers so he is going to have to work whenever NW plays home games. I guess that is up to The Big Ten. Probably the same thing if they allow fans in.

The final tally for games weeks 0 through week 3:

61 games scheduled, 13 games postponed/canceled (21%) = 48 games actually played (79%).

There is already one postponement/cancellation for week 4, Memphis is having to miss their second consecutive game.

The Big Ten protocols are going to be tough.  It is nice that they have their 8 game schedule set with league title and TBA 9th games for everyone.  I just hope people are prepared for the issues that are could come up.  There will be games that get postponed and canceled and there might have to be some adjustments to schedules...let's just say that Penn State is unable to play OSU in B1G week 2, and Iowa is unable to play NW in B1G week 2, there would be an opportunity for Ohio State to play Northwestern.  Or OSU and NW just lose a game if they don't schedule a new opponent.  These kind of on-the-fly decisions are going to have to be made.  It has happened twice elsewhere, when one team can't play, the other team within 6-7 days goes out and fills in the date with a new opponent.

Are you a statistics major? 😋

I've kind of not been too terribly interested in college football so far as we head into autumn. Sad. Going to The Big House in Ann Arbor was one of the best things I did. Loved when we beat up on Ohio State. Are you a fan of them? 😀

I probably should've been!  I do like numbers and stats and analyzing them.  Before football started I was keeping my own coronavirus spread sheets!  I'm just not disciplined enough and it would occupy about all of my time, instead of 80% of my time - but I would enjoy making my own power ratings like serious players do.  I'm not a serious player, but have a deep interest in power ratings and spreads and evaluating numbers.

One last note on those postponed games, which I think most are going to end up being canceled...P5 teams don't have much desire or really benefit to reschedule those types of games with the conference slate coming up.  I do hope that everyone is prepared for what could happen as the SEC gets going this Saturday and the Big Xll and ACC enter into their conference schedule then the Big Ten comes online.  There are going to be games that can't be played, maybe as many as 20% a week if the first couple weeks is any indication.  And that is ok.  I just hope there doesn't become this narrative when each week has 5-10 games postponed due to covid protocols, hey it's ok, expect it.  Play the games  you can and the games you can't you can't.  Keep moving forward.

UMass football is coming back next month.  Not sure who they are going to play.

UMass isn't very good of course, but I will certainly watch them given the chance.  Andy Isabella is a great WR to come out of their program who is contributing for the Arizona Cardinals now.

Something that has gone unreported ,because there isn't any interest nationally, but a little over a dozen FCS teams are playing fall football.  Some of those teams have just 3 or 4 game seasons.  Like I said, play the games you can play.  Everyone gets an extra year of eligibility this year any way.  If you can take the precautions, have a school that wants to do it and the players and staff want to do it - play ball!

I could see the Huskers anywhere from 5-3 to 2-6. One of the toughest schedules with five preseason Top 25 teams (while the Big 10 was still listed in the polls). Guess we'll find out. (Maybe)

One benefit for me to the staggered start of the season is it allows me to catch up with the teams that haven't started playing yet. Usually I form a base of knowledge in the summer. So I'm still adapting in the fly.

Having not read any Big Ten material yet I'd just say if you have to play Ohio State I would like to play them right off the bat. It does look like the league dealt Huskers a bad hand while they protected Ohio St (don't play three presumed toughest teams from the west). Some think that is what leagues should do, give favorable treatment to the best team so they can best navigate the schedule unbeaten. I'd rather them throw everything at them and make it the hardest road possible, but that's not how it works.

On an airplane today so it's lots of SEC catchup time!

Okay, it certainly seems like we've had a college footballer die from Covid.  Or, that was the initial response.  Several articles ... suggest a misdiagnosis.  Family and friends of the player say (social media) that he did, indeed die of Covid.

I'll spare y'all my usual paranoia and suspicions.  I really hope that if this player died of Covid - that he will be the last to do so.  The season is still in its infancy.  I really hope that we don't hear anything else like this.

The SEC starts play tomorrow - My Tide plays Mizzou at 7:00.   Normally, I'd be chomping at the bit - foaming at the mouth and more excited than Bill Clinton on Viagra at an intern sleepover.  Am I even going to watch this season?  Just don't know yet.

I have been pretty dialed into the season for 4 weeks now.  But tonight does feel different, like it's football eve maybe it's because S-E-C S-E-C S-E-C!

I haven't been home, haven't been able to chew on the matchups and games.  Have some cramming to do over the next 11-1/2 hours!

If the train stays on the track long enough to make it there...looks like PAC12, MWC and MAC are all coming back to fall sports.

Quoting myself this morning.  Wondering why there's been so little press on this one.  I can't imagine a bigger fan of football than myself.  NCAA football generates a lot of cash ... for everybody but the players.  Whistle past the graveyard nearest to the stadium.

Jamain Stephens was a football player who died.  He didn't die because of football did he?

Football players have died during practice before.

It's not acceptable, but unfortunate things happen in.

The PAC 12 of all the leagues appeared to have the most concern for player safety and health.  And while some in the media like to say that people responsible for starting college football in the south aren't as educated and their doctors aren't as smart.  So now the most reluctant and cautious of all the leagues, the PAC12 thinks it is ok to proceed.  Who is more qualified to say more?

@nebish  Please forgive some of my outbursts here lately.  Until recently, I had no real frame of reference for Covid.  Between losing a close friend and Desantis (FL Gov) and other "leaders" suddenly throwing open the doors (no more table spacing - back to business as usual!) and now - losing a player to Covid (currently being denied by many) - I honestly think I might be entering a genuine state of depression.

A while back, one of our posters stated that if someone was killed in a car wreck (for example) and had Covid symptoms - the media would cite this as a "Covid death".  Football seems to be the polar opposite.  People who have a vested interest in college football (including addicted fans, like myself) are being very quick to point out any other health issue that Jamain Stephens might have had.  They do not want a Covid death spoiling the season.

I hope that the season plays out with absolutely no more incidents (or near incidents).  I'm no Nostradamus or anything, but I foresee not only the loss of another player, but lawsuits against universities and the NCAA by players' families.

The high school level is even more worrisome to me, personally.  I worked with an Alabama HS program for 24 years (video coordinator).  The coach of that school had to forfeit the first two games of the season because HE had Covid.  Check the sports pages in Alabama - many games and entire seasons have been ditched.  The worst part - professional and college players have a "bubble" that they are ... separated/isolated/ ... quarantined(?) in from the rest of society at large.  These high school players go to class on Monday with the rest of the entire student body.

As much as I love the game ... as much as I NEED football right now, I question the sanity of even attempting to have a season.

@Rusty you are fine.

I do not mean to be insensitive and especially so with your recent loss.

I am of the belief that these players are actually safer being in the regime of football system and facility.  Because, let's face it, they can contract covid any number of places.  And if they were not part of the football program they would not benefit from all the testing and now the cardiac screening and treatments that are available to them.

You have been very forthcoming and genuine and consistent with your feelings.  We all have to get through it the best way we can.

I look at the number of fans in the stadiums at some of the games and it makes me nervous too.  But still, I hope today you can try and put some of that aside.  Sports offer a great distraction and escape and today there are some very interesting matchups in the SEC and a few elsewhere.  Use it as therapy....and Roll Tide!

Well, yesterday was interesting huh?

Georgia is putting out a want ad for a QB

Chris Klieman > Lincoln Riley

Bo Pelini made his debut as LSU defensive coordinator, how did it go?

Football is going to be fun in Mississippi

I'm seeing some teams quitting early this year.  I think that might be a theme for some teams that have been through a lot this offseason with covid and the protocols and social justice stuff some coaching changes, etc.  See examples A:  Florida State, Southern Miss and ULM.  The exception, Syracuse still fighting (but have dealt with less off the field issues).

Somebody want to tell Texas A&M they had a game yesterday

Former Texas DC Todd Orlando to current Texas DC Chris Ash "I told you so"

A couple big upsets yesterday:  K St as 27.5 pt dog, Miss St as 15.5 pt dog, Texas State outplayed Boston College, but lost on last second FG as a 3 TD underdog.  Texas Tech (+18) led Texas by 15 with maybe 4 minutes left, but Texas took it to OT and won.  Georgia Southern (+11.5) had a fantastic go-ahead TD and 2 pt conversion drive with 1 minute left to take a 1 point lead, but ULL drove for a time expiring game winning FG.

Game Day!

Another hectic week for me, but absolutely looking forward to the games today.  Bummed out the last kick is just 8 eastern though.  Until we get MWC and PAC12 back, at least they could give us a later Big Xll start.

You guys hear about the Charlotte - Georgia State game that was postponed two weeks ago because of human error at lab?  Charlotte Observer had the story, that I think 7 players tested positive on Thursday and then contact tracing ruled about maybe 10 more.  But they retested the players Friday (after announcing the game was off) and all players tested negative, then they retested the Thursday results which all came back negative!  But it was too late to get the game back on.  Crazy.

I think only one game that was supposed to be played this Saturday, Troy - South Alabama is off.  And then another Sun Belt game scheduled for next Wednesday, App St - ULL is off.

Enjoy the games!

Pretty good week coming up!  Where you at peeps?

Houston will finally play their first game Thursday after having 3 maybe 4 week 1 opponents cancel/postpone on them.  Strange to see them 7 pt fav though, Tulane is pretty solid.

Nice ACC Friday night matchup too.  Will Louisville show they are better than last year after disappointing games vs Miami and Pitt or will GT show that week 1 wasn't a fluke and they are starting to climb the ladder?  Note this Friday night game is in our pick 'em.

VT at UNC is nice game!

Florida at  aTm...Florida has looked fantastic to open the season, at least their O has, Texas A&M...not so much.  Barely beat Vandy and then get blown out by Bama.  What's up with these Aggies?

Coastal Carolina at ULL - 3-0 vs 3-0, one of the best matchups of the weekend, but Hurricane Delta might interfere.

Red River Shootout!  Both these teams have some major issues, no Texas state fair, minimal fans in attendance...but something tells me this is still must watch TV!

Vols vs Dawgs!  Will find out if this new version of Tennessee is legit and get to see Georgia continue to grow behind Stetson Bennett and a nasty nasty D!

Saban at Kiffin, no matter what happens, it's going to be good!  Bama 15 straight games scoring 35+, they do it again here breaks a record.

Miss St at UK - Leach coached at UK under Hal Mumme.  MSU bunch came down to earth when Ark snapped their 20-something SEC losing streak vs them last week.  UK D looks exact opposite to the 2019 version, strange.  Check 400 UK rushing yards vs Ole Miss...and lost.

Miami at Clemson - Well, well, well...Canes for real?  About to find out here.  Clemson has won 37 straight when favored by 10 to 20 points, all good things must come to an end, will it?

FSU at ND and Irish a 3 TD fav!  Ouch.

What's good this week football fans?

The standings are showing all the weeks totaled right now.  First time using this league for me and I think everyone, but I assume they will drop the lowest week at the end of the year.  When you are looking at the standings you can see what the full standings are and you can see what the best weeks are without the lowest week.

You got this Sang...when Big Ten comes online you and Lee will be moving on up!
