Great week Sang!
B R U I N S !
How'd you like that one Stratdal? 32 pt comeback and the seal the win with what? Defense. Crazy crazy crazy game.
That game was something. I got home from the Northwestern / Michigan State game and caught the Notre Dame / Georgia and Texas / Oklahoma St games. I went to bed in the fourth quarter thinking the game was over. UCLA wasn't stopping anyone so figured they were done. Sure wish I had stayed up. What a great night of great games.

The scores of some of these games are obnoxious.
Everyone has a plan, till you get punched in the face,
So, WOW, woke up really happy this morning. Then I started reading the Georgia boards and Dayum...UGA really sux. According to them.
-"Coley Sux! Will we ever get an OC worth a flip?"
FACT: Do you really think Chaney would have put the ball in Jake's hands in some of those crucial situations? Hell naw. And get over Bobo - he's gone and ain't coming back.
And speaking of Fromm. I'm not going to say he's the best QB from a Heisman perspective, but, the fact is he's run off - that's right, run them off, 2 5* recruits (one of them the #1 recruit in the country). Never been close to being sat. And I'm dang glad he's on our team. Jake, if you're reading this...first, I really dig the fact you're into the Brothers and please come back next year!
-"Kirby is a great recruiter and horrible in game coach - should have gone for it on 4th and one to ice the game."
FACT: There are 4 things in life that are givens - Death, Taxes, Fromm & Hot Rod. That FG put UGA in a position to force ND to have to score 2 TD's to win. Get stuffed and admit it, we've got a history of not making short yardage plays under a previous OC, and ND is in a position to tie the game - easily. Who you want to coach this team instead..Harbaugh? But, for the record, I was livid we didn't go for it. Had I been sober enough to stand and throw with some accuracy, yes, I would have hurled something at the TV when we chose to kick the FG.
Finally, I used to hate ND....with a passion. More than a passion. So much so that when I get really mad I used to refuse to see green. But hell, you folks got class (well except for the fake injuries - seriously?) and you're good (especially at faking injuries with an ACC officiating crew). If you want to fix what's wrong with college football's rankings then you know that ND is going to drop in the rankings when they still deserve to be there in the top 10.
Now, on to some other observations.
I watched the UT/UF game and kept wondering "is UT that bad or UF that good?" Sadly, it's the former. That QB is not good. And living in Tennessee and exposed to the pre-season happy talk - You'd think you'd start seeing some improvement in coaching. That game was more than 2 steps back.
Michigan - dayum son. And you were the great white hope for the B1G to unseat OSU. Talk about not showing up. That's some Richt classic not showing up. And that's not-not giving credit to Wisco. But coach Jimmy, the reason you're standing at the platform with your bag is not because you got their late - the train just left you. Also, see note above about bad QB play.
The Utes, sorry, I mean yyyeeeewwwths, bye-bye. We hardly knew ye.
UCF? OK, OK, give me my mic back and STFU.
A&M...You got that stadium and that crowd? See Michigan comments about not showing up.
Now, back to the Dawgs. Happy bye week. I see the injuries starting to stack up let's hope this rest helps!
Going back to listening to AT40 9-19-70 replay on XM show when rock and roll used to be on the radio. Those were the days eh?

Something quickly overlooked by the announcers (does Gary ever correctly point anything out)...Georgia passed up on that chance to put the game away with that 4th and half-a-yard, which I'm pretty sure they woulda converted and I'm pretty sure they woulda also gone on for a TD and a 17 pt lead. Now maybe ND comes back and still back doors it, maybe not.
But to hear Gary give Georgia credit for kicking the FG because now ND couldn't kick a FG to tie, totally ignored that ND was squarely on the ropes and kicking that FG actually kept ND in the game rather than putting them away.
I was +16.5, so I was quite happy they kicked the FG.
Not sure what all you have read on the message boards Chris, one thing that I can see people saying, is that Georgia doesn't look like Clemson, they don't look like Alabama - who have these high flying offenses that score bunches of points in flurries. Maybe that is what people want out of the Dawgs? Fromm is very good. Georgia is obviously very good. Just because they played a tight game with ND (who nobody who likes the other elite teams nationally ever wants to give any credit to for even maybe being a little good) doesn't mean that Georgia isn't very capable of competing with the other potent offenses. Those people should chill out, give some credit to the opponent, cheer your team on and watch them improve and get better hopefully as the season goes on.
Early line Ohio State -17 1/2 over Nebraska.
College Game Day in Lincoln.
Don't see how the Huskers win that game, but if they keep turnovers to a minimum, they probably stay within that line.
"There is no mechanical problem so difficult that it cannot be solved by brute force and ignorance"
Lot of points to lay on the road. Even for a college game. I guess I would take the points as well if I had to put a bet on it.

Ohio State looks just incredible. I do still think we are waiting to see them tested. Cincinnati I thought would be one, but that is a strong Bearcat team, but still a group of 5 roster and their OL was just overwhelmed among other things. Indiana normally gives OSU trouble, however this year, IU has been strange to me, they only led UConn 10-3 very deep in the 2nd qrt, their game with Ball St week 1 was a head scratcher too. Then FAU and MiaOh...it's just hard to take much from Ohio State's opponents, but for Ohio State's parts they simply look phenomenal.
Nebraska on the other hand, not looking phenomenal, but the potential is there under the surface. They continue to be their worst enemy in alot of respects with unforced errors. They dominated Colorado in the 1st H, but had some really long drives so they only managed 17 pts. Then CU hit a couple big plays in the 2nd H and momentum was theirs and Nebraska couldn't recover. If you want a good laugh, look at the box score of the 4 pt win at Illinois. Nebraska could've won that game by atleast 3 TDs had it not been for the turnovers.
Nebraska is going to need an out of body experience to pull off the upset. But I think it's possible. I think Nebraska pass D can hold up, which will be good because Ohio St hasn't faced any difficulty in their pass game at all this year. I do worry about Nebraska run D and OSU knows how to run it quite well.
Ohio State has some real difference makers and top NFL talent on their D as always, but do feel there are a couple weak spots at LB and NB.
Coot said it best, the key will be the number 1 factor. Nebraska has lost alot of them this year. They do that here they get trucked. If not, then we could see one of the biggest upsets of the young season.
Game Day!
I like the schedule this week and how the games are grouped in time slots.
What happened to TCU's D - Can Les' 'Hawks pull this one off?
Surely Vandy can beat NIU, right?
BC +6 at home? WF has been really good...BC used to be good on D.
ISU @ Baylor should be a good one. Baylor has played all cupcakes, but they might be good this year.
I like the Min-Pur and IU-MSU games. Ski-U-Mah and Go Green.
What an upset it would be...UNC beating Clemson (a guy can dream).
Remember when Ole Miss beat Alabama back-to-back, now the only question is by how many pts will Bama crush them by.
Is Virginia for real? Is the ND D we saw last week for real?
USC's O vs Utah was loft the ball up and let the WRs go get it, pretty simple, it worked! Doubt it works again, but price on UW here is awfully high I think. SC D might keep it close.
SMU, Ponies 4-0, now TD+ road fav
Cincy @ Marshall has alot on the line in the AAC division. Too bad this game is on facebook!
ULL is super hot right now, could be a tricky spot though.
UCF -43...UConn...LOL
Might Oregon State win today? Man Stanford is down and out, at some point they will right the ship ,but Go Beavs!
K St - Ok St pretty nice matchup.
UK @ SCar, both teams really really really need this one.
Go Big Red!!
Y'all hear what went on down at Houston this week. Line moved over 9 pts!
Who bounces back off ultra disappointing losses last week, but where-o-where will Utah get the O from...and where-o-where will Wazzou get the D from? Seems like everyone automatically thinking Utes are the pick here, but Leach has had alot of success vs Utah and think Wazzou will be equally motivated to get that bad taste out there mouth.
Hawaii @ Nevada - super excited for this one. UH is a turnover machine though, last in the nation at -12 margin.
Go Bruins!! 'Zona gonna lay a TD in conference vs a team that just proved they haven't quit. Well...UCLA did trail by 32 at one point last week.
Good luck to all today!
Neb, hope there are lots of games you can "bank on" today!
"There is no mechanical problem so difficult that it cannot be solved by brute force and ignorance"
Wow!
Perhaps the worst/best outcome in the Temple/East Carolina game last night.
East Carolina scores with 26 seconds left to seemingly get a back door cover. 27-17.
They get the onside kick. With :04 left they complete a pass and the receiver is stopped by two defenders. Receiver just sort of pushes the ball out. Temple scoops and scores. Temple now "covers. " And, the under flips to over.
However.....
Receiver forward progress stopped is the call, no touchdown. East Carolina and under stands. 😮
If that's not enough, there was a power outage with 3:53 left in regulation, making it "official" in the desert. Score at that time 27-10, gives Temple the cover if they decide not to resume.
Weirdest confluence of wagering factors I've ever seen.
Oh yeah, I had the under! 😛

That was pretty crazy sequence of events. I had ECU and was thrilled with the backdoor and then my heart stopped with the scoop-and-score, but you could hear the whistle blow, it actually blew after the ball was lateraled, but whatever.
Reminded me of the blk'd FG TD return as time expired that USC had for the cover against Utah several years ago that the refs brought back, keeping it a 2 pt game I think. But then, mysteriously, about an hour after the game was over the PAC 12 ruled the TD was good and they changed the final score. I was wondering how shady the AAC was and waiting til this morning to see what the score was 😛
How about this UCF game. UCF dominated everywhere but the scoreboard in the first half, now after HT they can't move the ball at all. Cincy D doing a number in this half. Played great RZ D in 1st to keep the score low, paying off now as UC O comes to life.
H Scott
How about those Gators!!!! Now they get LSU and Georgia. Pretty tough in the SEC

Making you want to go down to the Cocktail Party maybe this year?
People were getting the cart ahead of the horse on Auburn, heard people saying they should be the number 1 team prior to the Florida game. Gotta let it all play out, freshman QBs are sometimes going to play like freshman QBs, especially on the road vs a D like Gators have.
Now this week at LSU, "Oh My". Pretty excited to see how it goes. Lotta people love the Tigers right now. Will Gators have enough to pull it out? Guess I would lean with the dog and pts per usual.
Down here in Knoxville, kinda like the old Jerry Clower gag...
"Just shoot up here amongst us, one of us has gotta have some relief!"
Just when you thought it could get no worse...
its just nice to see UF playing some meaningful games again. Since UM left for OSU they have not really been competitive in the conference. A few good wins but nothing sustainable. I dont think they escape from LSU and UGA but one can hope--especially being a Jets fan. LOL
This is a pretty interesting weekend. I think in the summer we would've looked at this weekend as an incredible slate of the top programs, but because some of the teams have underachieved or not lived up to expectations it isn't getting quite the hype. Talking about games like:
Virginia (4-1) at Miami (2-3) - top two contenders for the Coastal entering the year
Oklahoma (5-0) vs Texas (4-1) - a little luster came off since Texas isn't unbeaten and banged up. Sooners yet to be tested...OL ?, D ?, Hurts arm ? Teams split last year with Texas winning the Red River Shootout and OU winning the Big Xll Title game.
Alabama (5-0) at Texas A&M (3-2) - everyone knew the schedule was brutal, but aTm should be taking a step this year, they haven't. Ags were one of Bamas tougher games last year (Tide never in danger of losing and won by 3 scores though)
Florida St (3-2) at Clemson (5-0) - FSU still floundering what will they have here? Clemson won 59-10 last year, ouch! Something seems different this season.
USC (3-2) at Notre Dame (4-1) - Nobody quite knew what USC would be this year, but feels like this game is off the radar nationally now. Still think USC D is better than people give them credit for, too bad their QB situation has been in such flux.
Then there are a couple bigger than expected games...
Florida (6-0) at LSU (5-1) - LSU O has surpassed everyone's wildest imaginations and Florida is a surprise to make it this far unbeaten frankly, but this line appears awfully high doesn't it (13)
Penn State (5-0) at Iowa (4-1) - Penn St has crushed some teams, then had some head scratching quarters of play as well (see 1st H vs Buffalo, 2nd H vs Purdue) - Kinnick at night is a bitch
Washington (4-2) at Arizona (4-1) - One team sits atop their division and one team has two PAC12 losses, bet nobody would've guessed the roles would be reversed for these teams
Michigan State (4-2) at Wisconsin (5-0) - cross division game doesn't carry the same magnitude an intra-division game would, but will be good test for Badgers and what can MSU muster up here? MSU should be good enough to compete and possibly win this game.
Looks like a good week.
And don't forget tonight!
App State at ULL! ULL is 4-1 with 5 straight covers, only loss was to Miss State. App State just beat UNC on the road and rolls in 4-0. Rematch from last year's Sun Belt Title game
Neb, I definitely like Iowa this week at home getting points. Always seem to play PSU tough in Kinnick.
Doesn't look like Martinez will play against the Gophers, probably a conservative game plan for Vedral. Looking at the under there. I think I saw a real early line Huskers by 2 1/2 and then it flipped to Minn -8. Has come down a little.
Always play the over in UMass games.
Tonight, I'd lean App State.
"There is no mechanical problem so difficult that it cannot be solved by brute force and ignorance"
Thought about our Georgia fans after that Tennessee game. Sure Dawgs won by 25 or something by pulling away late, but first half wasn't pretty. Some of those same fans upset about the way Georgia beat ND probably not happy now too.
Playing that team today from under the state of North Carolina.
Wonder what happens there?

Steve, you notice how protective Frost is of Martinez? Always. Always coming to his defense, always propping him up, saying how things aren't his fault. I wonder if he still thinks he will be the best Nebraska QB there? True, there are alot of things not going right and well around Martinez, but personally, I look forward to seeing another QB like Vedral for a full game. Martinez has lots of talent and skill, but in the world of big time college football, he is just a little above average I think.
Crazy to see Minny lined that high for this game. Think I have to take the points just on principle. Until the ILL game, every Minnysota game has been just a 1 score game.
See if Bhawk might be enticed to make an appearance.
This whole Horns Down thing is getting pretty ridiculous. Texas gets offended by it. What a joke.

Vols gonna win today!

Absolutely protective, don't know if that is a confidence building issue or not but Martinez has regressed horribly this year. Wasn't surprised MN won but we weren't even in the game. Not impressed with the way this season is unfolding, we should win games like Colorado and Minnesota.
Under play was good on this one as I suspected. The over in any game with UMass is always good too, along with a side bet against them too. They were down 56-14 at half. I guess things could be worse in Lincoln. 😉

Big Ten Prognosis:
I am working the Ohio State / Northwestern game Friday. Not sure why The Big Ten would play a Friday game but they are. There will be more OSU fans there than NU. That are actually opening the beer stands four hours before kickoff. Going to be nuts. Should get home at 4 or 5 AM. NU getting 28 at home. I watched UNLV give them a decent game and Michigan State kill them. And Michigan State sucks. Give the points.
Wisconsin / Illinois. Illinois is so bad they are getting 31 at home. I don't like this game at all but given the size of the spread I will take Illinois and 31.
Purdue / Iowa. This one puzzles me. Purdue knocked around a decent Maryland team last week and now that are going against a team that really doesn't score much. I'll take the 18 points.
Indiana / Maryland. Why is Indians favored on the road? When have they been favored on the road? Ever? One might be inclined to take Maryland but I just don't trust it. Give the points.
Rutgers / Minnesota. Does it matter? Bet your retirement on Minnesota. Rutgers is THAT bad.
Michigan / Penn State. Kind of glad I will be home for this. I don't see UM winning this but I think Patterson can at least keep it under a touchdown so I take the points.
Hey, at least Michigan State isn't playing this week.
😛

Looks like a great day Lee!
Feel bad for Patterson. He played a really good game after a shaky 1st qrt or so. He's been dealt a tough hand this year. The drop in the EZ was brutal.
How was Evanston on Friday?
Sang, you’re still in first!

Yeah I guess I picked well.
Evanston was busy. Really busy. We had to have an extra cop in our office. I left the stadium at about 2:15 Saturday morning. My colleague and I were pretty much the last people to leave the stadium. Except for the crews outside taking down the temporary lights (Ryan Field has no lighting).
Lots of Ohio State fans. One of the stadium directors came into our office and had just come back from the field. He said the only purple he saw in the stadium was the Northwestern marching band. Those Bucknuts travel well.
We have Iowa this weekend. From my days in Michigan I can tell you Iowa fans also travel well. I don't think they will spend as much $$$ as Ohio State but it will still be busy. Glad it is an early game. They shouldn't have Big Ten games in a college town on a Friday night.
