Go Tigers!!
here's your preseason chicken news:
USuC fans were crowing about their big recruiting weekend last week. They beat out Wake Forest, Furman, App St and few other powerhouses on some recruits.
one chickened predicted a 10-2 record and getting in the playoff.
BTW they Georgia, Bama and Clemson this year
DUCKS are going on a tear this year!!! Hopefully PAC-12 doesn't do what they do most years and eat their own.
SEC going to play 10 inter conference games this year?
How about that GT - Clemson line? Oh boy, rough first game for a new coaching staff transitioning a team away from the option. I'll be looking to see if Geoff Collins still wears his 'trademarked' flood style pants.
This should be a big year for Oregon. Herbert is a little over-rated, but he is still very good. The OL is excellent. The D should be good. I think they can beat Auburn week 1, will be hugely disappointing for them if they don't. Trips to Stanford and Washington plus at USC could pose a chance to trip up. 10-2 or better should be the expectation with a North division championship. Quack!

Posting on another site about the UCLA - Bama game in 2001 (I was there) and it reminded of this thread. I saw something a few weeks ago that Miami and Florida are playing on 8/24 to celebrate the 150th anniversary of college football. Pretty cool way to start the season!

I think the true first College Football games we're between Queens University in Kingston Ontario and Yale or Harvard. I recall my Uncle (Former Queens guy) stating that on many occasions.
I assume the rules we're closer to football rules and not rugger as he called it.
Long time a go so could be up for debate.
My bad - but I knew it was Ivy League and Cdn university
In 1868, the first recorded game of rugby in North America occurred in Montreal, between British army officers and McGill students,[206][207] giving McGill the oldest university-affiliated rugby club in North America. Other McGill-originated sports evolved out of rugby rules: football, hockey, and basketball. The first game of North American football was played between McGill and Harvard on May 14, 1874,[208] leading to the spread of American football throughout the Ivy League.[209]

Well, at Rutgers they say that is the birthplace of college football. Fans there now are just wondering when football will be reborn in Pascataway.

I like the changes.
I like the changes.
Thanks for that, just heard about it this week. Sounds good to me as well.
What changes have been made for 2019?
There has been one major adjustment to the overtime format for 2019. Teams will rotate two-point conversion tries beginning in the fifth overtime, eliminating possessions starting at the opposing 25-yard-line. Each offense will have just one chance to convert the two-point try before the other team gains possession.

Read an article about it and it doesn't strike me as being too terribly different to what it has been the last several years.
Just my opinion but I really don't like the college OT rule (s). Same with the NHL. I say let them play.

ONE MONTH!
Don't know why but my betting site won't let you bet the over / unders on wins yet. There are a few I'd like. I suppose they wait until the last minute. I did see that my Meeechigan Wolverines are the fifth highest to win it all which really surprises me. They can't even decide on a quarterback.

Over Oregon and Oregon State and under for Wash.

Why wouldn't Shea be the QB again this year?
Over Oregon and Oregon State and under for Wash.
Think I would agree Mike.
Go Beavs! I'm eyeing the Oklahoma State trip to Corvalis in week 1 as a potential upset. Okie St's run game could be a challenge for the Beavs, but otherwise, I think Beavers have some success in this spot...week 1 home opener vs inconsistent 2 TD favorite breaking in a new QB with a questionable Cowboy defense.
They should get over 2.5 wins, even if they lose week 1. At Hawaii will be tough for them, but I would take them to win that one. Gotta figure they beat Cal Poly and then I'll give them one P12 win in October (Cal?) and one in November (AzSt?).
I do like Oregon this year.
It is hard for me to fade Washington too hard because of their track record. The offense could actually be better with Eason at QB since Browning really fizzled the last 2 years and didn't posses great arm strength. Eason was starting at UGA until injury and he's from Washington I think so he will relish being there to restart his career. UW D is always so good, they have questions this year, but I tend to want to give them the benefit of the doubt. They do get Oregon and Wazzou at home, those are the teams I see contending for the North and Huskies always beat Wazzou and until last year, had beaten the Ducks convincingly back-to-back '16 and '17.
I love how this season shapes up in the PAC 12. It is going to be so competitive and so much fun. Look at the South Division. Yeah, Utah is loaded, but literally, anybody, anybody could finish 2nd or 6th in that division. Colorado could be 2nd, or 6th. Same with UCLA. USC...et all.

I totally agree with that but I guess Harbaugh might split time between him and some kid. I don't get it but that is what I read.

Hoping for some parity at the top this year. A few haves an a ton of have nots is not good for college football in the long run.

I missed most of Big Ten media days and have not begun to read up on B1G teams yet. So it is like a gadget QB, or is it the typical coach isn't committing to the starter so they compete in camp? It has to be Shea. I really think he can do everything they need of him. Must just be Harbaugh being Harbaugh, you know...the guy that doesn't like to even produce depth charts for game week.
That is one thing though, think about the failure that Michigan QB recruiting and development has been under Harbaugh. It's horrible. Why can't Jim recruit a good QB to run the show? Michigan was pretty much QB-U for alot of years. Not always great NFL success, but you think about the guys that came through their in the 80s and 90s and early 2000s and it is like a who's - who of All Conference Big Ten QBs. This baffles me. Why Harbaugh has relied upon transfer QBs so much rather than his own recruits. Between Rudock, O'Korn and now Patterson...Harbaugh's transfer QBs have more starts and snaps than his recruited QBs I'm sure of it. Harbuagh and Michigan should be able to recruit a certain pedigree QB. Peters transfered to Illinois and McCaffrey has passed for 126y in two years. Maybe Milton (redshirt last year) or this year's frosh McNamara will amount to something? Maybe he actually can't evaluate QB talent and getting Luck at Stanford was...well...luck.
Hoping for some parity at the top this year. A few haves an a ton of have nots is not good for college football in the long run.
The top of college football has been ruled by dynasties for as long as I can remember. But to your point, I can't quite remember the two same teams being so dominant over everyone else year-after-year.
Here's one you'll like then:
Total Regular Season Losses by Clemson and Alabama COMBINED, Over/Under 1.5
Over +100
Under -130
Under is favored, so the odds makers and the betting public is saying that Clemson and Alabama will probably go no worse than 23-1 combined this year (regular season).
Or, here is another one:
Will Clemson and Alabama meet in the National Title Game?
Yes +180
No -240
Kinda steep odds on no. I mean, I would say no though too. After all, can they actually play each other in the playoff for a 5TH straight year? Every year there has been a playoff there has been a Clemson and Alabama game. 3 of 4 were in the final, the other year was the Kelly Bryant semi-final year.
How about one more?
Teams to win National Championship:
Alabama or Clemson -215
Field +175

Well the rankings came out and seven, yes SEVEN Big Ten teams are in the Top 25. I am a Michigan fan and I can't believe they are seventh given the players that left early. Definitely think Ohio State is also over ranked at five.
