That is great!

What kind of travel restrictions do they have right now, either local or country wide? Will they allow travelers from the US and you have to quarantine upon arrival or do they totally discourage any foreigners coming right now?

The country is still shut down to travellers. My partner says it may be October before i can get back down there.

Travel here is easing to an extent. Local mostly and to New Zealand who have also flattened their curb.
Our biggest assist as a country was stopping international travel. Those coming into the country now are subjected to two weeks quarantine in a hotel. You cannot leave that room.

For Canberra, we were lucky in the sense that all of our cases were linked to international arrivals, either themselves or close relatives.Schools are doing a staggered approach to return starting Monday 18th May with the youngest years groups for elementary school and high school as well as seniors. The next week 3 more year groups then the rest the week after.
Cafes and restaurants will open to seating this weekend with limited seating keeping to social distancing rules.

Is it too soon? We shall find out soon enough
