The desperate user w/4 personas made us all a little nuts. I think everyone is frustrated w/life under Covid19 & it comes out in lots of ways, including on this forum.

What I care about is trying to drive the discussion on this Forum in a more positive direction.

If you drive things in a negative direction, we will delete your posts, close threads, restrict your posting, or remove your account.

If you have to ponder the Terms of Service to decide if your post is "OK," it's probably not.

I hope that's clear.

Disappointing that Rowland had to do yet another purge this week, but we have no control over the trolls who have suddenly descended on us - BoytonBrother in 5-6 iterations & Cagey - in the past 2 months. They're the ones who are so hostile, provocative, & insulting that threads deteriorate. BoytonBro was easy to spot as his MO never changed & some of us questioned him. I was asked to just "let it go." My reply was I'm not going to let it go because it was going to end badly & we could all lose the forum over one troll.

Last week we had Cagey who had joined 10 years ago return & did the same thing - only he was much more aggressive, vile, & unstable. He called some of us vile names out of nowhere. He's gone.

I've no idea why anyone is suddenly desperately trying to return to this site dedicated to a defunct 50 yr old band w/some topical issues thrown in. But if we want to keep the site - & I do - pay attention to unusual posters like a PeachBud who joins & posts 25 times in one day as BB was doing & don't engage them. I don't remember Boyton but I do remember Cagey who got into it w/Tom Dowd's daughter years ago, disappeared, & returned this week. There's also a CageyLefty registered at the same time so he might re-appear.

I come here to get away from workl sites & don't want to be harassed by some troll. I've thought about quitting several times & was about to when Cagey was thrown out.

I do think we could all check ourselves about making blanket statements like Liberals/Conservatives/Dems/Republicans do ____________. It's as stupid as saying brown eyed guys do ______ or all rugby players do _________. We're all individuals and I, personally, don't like someone lumping me in w/a bunch of other people just because I'm registered to 1 of 2 choices of political parties in NY.

This is Rowland's board. I'm not speaking for him, but I think for the most part, we DO behave ourselves & recently, we've had outsiders causing problems. I'm just asking you to look out for newbies/suddenly resurrected names who are posting 20 times/day because they're trolls & ease up on the generalizations.

I think it is more noticeable now due to reduced activity and posters. Like Jerry has said, years and years ago I know I was in threads that got very heated and at times personal. But at the same time there were other exchanges going in in the same thread. That's the difference between 20 people posting in a thread vs 5. One person or one argument can put it in the gutter and nothing else is going on in the threads to keep other discussions going.

You're right nebish. What made the trolls easy to spot is that if you looked at "Today's Messages" they'd have multiple posts in every thread & the rest of us made 1-2 posts in threads in which we were interested. In his 1st fake name, BB posted 20 times/day & cagey was at 30; my daily average over 10 years is about 1/day (many months when I didn't post at all).

And there are members here wondering why he got banned since he didn't "seem bad." I guess they missed his deleted posts.

I've never noticed. I read the posts & move on. Obviously, he was in a rage about something.

Agree with Rowland. Easiest way to abide is to not discuss politics at all, which is what I have been doing.
