Anyone want to talk Iran?
We say the drone was in international waters, I've heard as much as "21 miles" outside of Iranian airspace. The Iranians say it was in their airspace, and no surprise, so do the Russians.
I think the President made the right decision to call off the retaliatory air strike. Might end up being the best decision of his time in office. Because it wouldn't stop there. Iran (or their affiliates) strike back, we strike back, and it's just a mess.
I would be quite happy is this is as close as this thing gets and everything cools down from here.
I agree that he did the right thing as well and I think he did it for the right reason. I also think that Iran wants us to attack and that they will provoke us to do so eventually. The restraint we showed will allow us to respond appropriately IF that does happen. Have mercy on them if it does.
We gave them one chance by writing of the drone as a possible mistake. The next one will likely have severe consequences. I hope it doesn't happen. Trump doesn't want war with Iran but he WILL do it if he has too.
Yet another Trump created mess he can't get himself out of.....The guy is simply a tool of the Hawks in and out of Congress, the Israeli's, and the Saudi Royal family.
He should have never pulled out of the treaty, but of course the aforementioned interests wanted him to do so. And so here we are.....
The only relatively bright thing he did was blink and not engage with our military....I assume that's because the Pentagon were the last people to speak with him and not John Bolton, or Netty, or the Royal Prince ...

Sounds like this was hard for you to say. BTW it totally contradicts this..

Just shows how behind the times Iran is that they called Trump the "r-word."
This sums it up nicely for me, a recent quote about Trump:
QUOOTE Kissinger, Dec. 18, 2016: Donald Trump is a phenomenon that foreign countries haven’t seen.
So it is a shocking experience to them that he came into office, at the same time, extraordinary opportunity. And I believe he has the possibility of going down in history as a very considerable president, because every country now has two things to consider, one, their perception that the previous president or the outgoing president basically withdrew America from international politics, so that they had to make their own assessment of their necessities, and, secondly, that here is a new president who is asking a lot of unfamiliar questions.
And because of the combination of the partial vacuum and the new questions, one could imagine that something remarkable and new emerges out of it. I’m not saying it will. I’m saying it’s an extraordinary opportunity.UNQUOTE
Trump is the first US president to be called "an idiot" "dotard" & "mentally retarded". By his own cabinet appointees and foreign leaders. 😛
...and somehow he managed to outfox the Clinton machine and send Hillary home !!!!!
The democrats have it locked up this year. No one is voting for Trump. I saw a recent poll Elizabeth Warren would come out on top in Texas. Continue to bash the Orange man and compare detention centers to concentration camps. Just promise free stuff. This strategy is working.

I'll bet you're proud of the Helsinki moment & Trump boasting of love letters from KJU. Those are actions that make Trump such a force on the world stage? What Americans would take pride in his actions such as these?
I think Nebish was looking for more substance than "pissing in a dumpster"
back to Iran- What do average Americans really know about this country? Not much. I can remember Carters inability to get a deal, Regan basically saying "I have a bigger button than you and I am not afraid to use it" Other than that, hearing about numerous small uprisings, "Death to America" chants, Israel hatred. and oil price spikes.
When Obama was POTUS Iran embarassed the US with their capture and humiliation of Navy soldiers. This kind of Iranian action is clearly no longer going to be tolerated. Keep the pressure on economically. The EU is no longer their lifeline. This is due to Trump leadership.

None of that matters to me at all.

I have a totally different memory of Reagan's policy toward Iran. I seem to remember Reagan illegally selling Iran arms and deverting the funds to terrorists in Central America. Maybe I am remembering that wrong, but I don't think so.
So Iran is now enriching uranium again now that the US has pulled out of the nuclear agreement. This is all on Trump. Maybe you can explain to me exactly this is a win for the US? The US was holding on to frozen Iranian funds, which we use as a bargaining chip to get Iran to comply with the agreement and submit to inspections. Now they have their money and they get to go back to enriching uranium again. Talk about a win win for Iran. Both Iran and North Korea have played Trump like a fiddle.
I ran
I ran so far away
I just ran
I ran all night and day
I couldn't get away

Not surprising. Afterall the Russians and North Koreans have replaced our allies in Trump world, and Trump's swallowers are along for the ride. This is the "new patriotism of MAGA" - sucking up to dictators and murderers.
I can kind of see the angle with North Korea, abandon your nuclear ambitions and join the global economy. Be....the next Vietnam. That's a future.
With Iran, totally different situation, their motivations for what they do in the region and the world are impossible for us to try get them to abandon. It's who they are, or atleast who their leadership is.
There is absolutely no future in any hypothetical Trump - Iran negotiation. Best we can do is try to manage and contain Iran. Was the JCPOA the best method of doing that or are these sanctions the better alternative for doing that? Iran is much worse off under the sanctions than the JCPOA, but as we see, that is very agitating to them and causing them to lash out.
Iran is a piece of sh*t bass-ackwards country.
I say stand up to them or be prepared to pay the price.
They shot down our drone over international waters.
Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
This has Gulf of Tonkin written all over it.
Its a frekin drone, a toy. Nobody got hurt, except maybe the geek pilot experienced a little stress and spilled his coffee on the keyboard and choked on his donut. Not worth killing over. Prove it wasnt in Irans airspace then bill em for it. WTF ever, get over it.
Maybe or maybe not this time, but the US screws around in Iranian territorial waters all the time. The US got off easy in 1988 when the USS Vincennes entered Iranian waters and downed Iran Air Flight 655, the Airbus out of Tehran, killing 290 civilians. If Iran shot down a US civilian airliner like that we would pound them into dust.
How quickly we forget.

Didn't you read the coordinates from Javid Zarif where the plane was shot down? It was in Iranian airspace. There is more but it gets dirtier than that. Guess it's time for a wtf post on Iran in Terrorism Updates.

Not sure why folks dont like Iran. Other than they smoke a slightly different brand of hardline Judaeo-Christianity, their society is a wet dream for hardcore American conservatives. Total subjugation of women, prison or death for gays, dissenters, and other disruptive elements, religion and nationalist doctrine taught in schools, militant isolationism, total police state. Pretty much Alabama with a turban.

Sounds like a community Dems would despise. Pretty bass-acwards place

Exactly
Sounds like a community Dems would despise.
Exactly
Look at that, we agree, the place is a sh^thole
I'm not agreeing or disagrering with anyone, just telling what I see. Believe me I do not like hardcore Islamic states - just as much as I don't like hardcore Christian conservative states. Point is they are the exact same beast. Same book, same values. Iran is just older, give ultracon American Religious Right control and we will be the same as Iran in no time.
I repeat, Alabama with a turban.
Actually, like so many other countries, life in Iran is complicated and, uh, hmmm. Never mind.
Also, there's the matter of how many Iranians live here and the very real risk that, aw, t'hell with it. Forget it.
Fact: The Multi-National Iran nuclear agreement was working. trump backed the US out of it ratcheted down sanctions on Iran, and threatnened them with "total obliteration". They in response, shot down a US drone. trump gloats about being prudent by doing nothing.??? It's a crisis of his own making.
His management style is crisis of the day / chaos of the day. Sometimes he manufactures a crisis to divert attention from a prior crisis. And using the terminology "management style" is being generous because it seems more likely Trump is about 90% impulsive.
Well, Trump's opponents and detractors can perhaps take away one positive thing (so far), atleast he doesn't subscribe to the neo-con world outlook. He does talk tough (or whatever other word you prefer to use) and we know the US carries a big stick, but thankfully, he isn't anxious to actually use it.
The only relatively bright thing he did was blink and not engage with our military

Actually it would seem my post was hard for you to comprehend....Listen up as this is a bit nuanced. Read this slowly if it'll help...
My point is Trump's overarching theme with his Middle Eastern policy, if one can call it that, and specifically in this case Iran, seems to be driven PRIMARILY by the Republican Hawks, the Saudi's, and Israel. And to a lesser extend the fossil fuel industry as pushed by the Koch Brother's crony at the State Dept., Mr. Mike Pompao (sp)...Every significant action Trump has taken in this general area of the world is to the benefit of the aforementioned special interests.
Fortunately, and to his credit, Dear Leader Trump was last advised by experts who, well, actually fight wars...Those people being of course members of the military who reside at the Pentagon....Upon their advisement he seems to have had a moment of sanity (albeit brief) and decided against giving the Iranians exactly what they were hoping for.
I'll say it again, good for Dear Leader....
Again you contradict yourself. Use as many words as you want. Still sounds like you know not of what you speak.
Brother Rabbit,
You say this
Its a frekin drone, a toy. Nobody got hurt, except maybe the geek pilot experienced a little stress and spilled his coffee on the keyboard and choked on his donut. Not worth killing over. Prove it wasnt in Irans airspace then bill em for it. WTF ever, get over it.
and I think, YES" we can agree on that. Just a drone. Then you say this..
I repeat, Alabama with a turban.
You clearly don't know sh!t about Alabama. I invite you to come spend a week with me to learn. Perhaps then you will think before you post garbage like that.
Again you contradict yourself. Use as many words as you want. Still sounds like you know not of what you speak.
Hardly, but nice try....
