Administration Resignations

I too have seen the latest reports about the call for more violence by then Trump posse. Perhaps these calls to arms may eventually push some in the Republican party to grow a spine and pressure Trump to leave. Or at least threaten to support impeachment...Doubtful, but possible.
I do think Pelosi’s fears are legitimate and should be taken seriously by the military leadership. The good news regarding the nukes is that we have a number of safeguards in place to prevent Trump from nuclear Armageddon. The nuke option has for years now required multiple things to happen beyond the President alone to implement the use of nuclear weapons. Starting a war with a foreign adversary i don’t think would happen now either given what Trump has done this past week.
I think behind the scenes Pence is now running the show and we just don’t know it...I may be very wrong of course but I suspect the Joint Chiefs and the current congressional leadership have already put in place safeguards to keep Trump corralled until he’s sent out the door....

@chain I alluded to it in another thread - as far as the Republicans go, Trump has burned their house to the ground. I hope that a new party - one that focuses on sanity, rationality and reason emerges. I have accused the two major parties of promulgating what I call, "fear and smear". We need a party that espouses common sense and decency - one that will focus on uniting us rather than dividing. Will it ever happen?

The media implied that Pence was running the show when names of those included in conversations were publicized & Trump was a glaring omission. Still, we've learned that Trump refused the National Guard so he wasn't being bypassed. Pence has no real authority. It was Ivanka who spent time w/him behind closed doors & ultimately convinced him to make that final pathetic video. She may be the only one left w/any real influence over him.
Trump's surrounded himself w/a handful of crazies since the election. Some of the more reasonable ones have left & some have stayed to mind him. Perhaps w/o twitter, Trump's frustration will grow & he can be made to see that resigning in disgust (in his mind) is the best way for him to go.
I hope there are safeguards - beyond the constitutional methods - that are in play to prevent him from wreaking more havoc. Of course, I thought the Capitol had state-of-the-art security that would lock it down immediately in the event of an attack after 9/11, but turned out to be way off on that - a broken window & the mob rushes in.

@cyclone88 History is loaded with demagogues and maniacs who gain power by playing to the whims and wishes of the lowest common denominator. Adolph Hitler and George Wallace come immediately to mind. Trump has said several times that he loves the uneducated. He could've more truthfully said, "I love the stoopid". These types are typically malcontents looking to blame their failures or discontent on another sector of society. Patronizing these folks is not unlike allowing a houseful of whining, bratty children to have cookies and soda-pop in lieu of a nutritious meal. Just let them have what they cry for and they'll like you. It's not a good long-term plan.

What is going on in America? Intelligence agencies are warning of violence in all 50 state capitols & more over in DC between 1/17-20. And what does the acting Homeland Security Director do? Resigns. Adding to the other officials & aides who've done so. Are they just abandoning us & running home to secret bunkers?
I'd like to think someone w/military defense capabilities is still at the helm, especially after the world saw how easily one of the three primary government buildings can be attacked. We look exposed. I hope we aren't.

@cyclone88 it appeared Wolf's appointment has been legally challenged since he took the job, so his departure may actually stabilize the department for the moment. But I agree, it's not a good look.

I have this fantasy that during Trump's visit to (the) Alamo today that he will incite his coup klutz klan into invading Mexico - where they'' be summarily rounded up and put into car'cels for muchos anos!

Jason Schmid, Senior and well respeted GOP Advisor on the House Armed Services committee resigned. His resignation letter was a scathing attack on his party and leaders who enabled the donald

Republican House member Liz Cheney, daughter of Dick "Darth Vader" Cheney, has announced she will vote to Impeach in tomorrow's House Impeachment vote....
While a critic of Trump, I wonder if she waited until the most recent poll showed Trump's approval rating sinking to the low 30's....You know, test the wind before choosing to jump.

Trump did call her out by name in his 1-6-21 speech. Saying something about her wanting perpetual war and not wanting to bring troops home.
