From a neurochemical standpoint the Whipping Post is basically a crackhouse for cortisol junkies:

from Psychology Today: full article at https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/conversational-intelligence/201503/addicted-being-right

". . . you go into overdrive to convince everyone you’re right. It feels like an out of body experience – and in many ways it is. In terms of its neurochemistry, your brain has been hijacked.

In situations of high stress, fear or distrust, the hormone and neurotransmitter cortisol floods the brain. Executive functions that help us with advanced thought processes like strategy, trust building, and compassion shut down. And the amygdala, our instinctive brain, takes over."

lol. Let's see now, good question. How could a dumb thread about spiking neurochemical jollies from opinionated bloviating possibly morph into a MAGA bash-in? hmmm, well, couple trigger words here: "Executive functions ... advanced thought processes . . . strategy, trust building, and compassion . . ."

hint: The elephant in the room.

I never think of Trump. Ever. Only when I read threads here. If I in fact did think of Trump in this particular instance and you found that "interesting", then I don't know what to tell ya. It was a joke.

OK...have at it. Cripes man, you're unreal.

I know it was a joke. I was also making a joke that people will think of Trump when we talk about people insisting they are right all the time.

I don’t have any problem with you at all.

LOL. Dude, that's an absolutely killer word. Since you're combining face and anus the proper pronunciation is "fay" nus and not "fan" us, correct? That pic you posted, that image is stuck in my head. Damn man, I can't stop laughing. I guess I really am twisted. Wait, YOU posted the pic. .

Yeah man, one of those things you can't unsee or unhear. I knew I was scarred for life when it hit me - thought I made it up then found it in the Urban Dictionary, it's part of the lexicon. English is an incredible living breathing monster.

A beautiful monster nevertheless. Since I was a kid I've loved words, reading, writing. Mom was an English teacher and you had better speak intelligible, correctly pronunciated, proper grammar or you heard about it from her. As a result, all these many years later, I have a deep appreciation for the written and spoken word and as such, really dig the heck out of your posts.

You probably haven't read my Barry Manilow argument then, kind of a fail. Yeah English is magic, got Stonehenge power or something. I like the sound of French better, but seems to me why English is so powerful is it adapts and mutates rapidly and constantly, absorbing words from other languages and generating new words all the time, while other languages don't change so fast, as they are more isolated. Modern English would be unintelligible to an Englishman of the Middle Ages, any other language you could go back in time and be understood. Weird weird language, it is like a virus.

My daughter once showed me on article on the "heroin" like effect of people commenting positively on your posts (an experience I don't usually experience in real life)
