Absolutely, making plastic from cellulose. The blackout and suppression of this has gone on since the petroleum industry monopolized plastic production. The technological ability to make plastic from biomass has existed since the invention of cellophane in 1908.
It is astounding that this info is just surfacing in 2019. I first became aware of it in the early 1980s but back then you only heard this stuff if you were a lefty enviro whackjob.

I saw this, and wondered if he was a slimeball charlatan looking to con investors, he did have credible people on his team though?.
I'd say credible given some of the scientists working on his team are directly from MIT and several of the investors happen to be former fossil fuel executives and a couple former federal cabinet members from various administrations.
He's no charlatan if the aforementioned individuals interviewed in the piece are to be believed....

Makes a better hawser rope. Strong when wet and was used for towing. Hemp can be used to make paper (check out the original Declaration Of Independence), cloth, seeds can be used to make milk, protein powder, oil, and even cheese.
I'm not against it's cultivation and use.
The biggest empire the world has ever seen was Britain during the Age of Sail. Sails were hempm. All thanks to hemp, and of course every tree in the British Isles.
