Who Lied, Derek Trucks or David Sperro?

Who cares if Dickey's performance would have been superb or sub-par? The roar of the crowd and crappy sound in the Beacon would have made it irrelevant.
People used to complain about the appearances of the likes of Hubert Summlin with the ABB. For sure, the man was a shadow of himself when he sat in the with ABB. But the smiles of Derek and Warren watching him on stage were priceless.
Spot on!
People suggesting that they would have critiqued Dickey on his performance or even, for crying out loud, the tempo of the songs are surely missing the point.
Any Dickey appearance would be largely sentimental and symbolic. It was the final performances of the band and there was surely a valid case for Dickey to make a cameo appearance.

Some are more forgiving than others.
Boom!
I am one of the lucky ones that has seen Dickey solo many times and have lucked in on either good or really good shows.
Maybe you guys are right and an older Dickey might screw up some parts. Add that to Gregg's missed lyrics/cues and Jaimoe's back/stamina and it would be a nightmare. Those couple of songs might have destroyed the entire ABB legacy had they been played.
Boom! Boom!

Maybe he will be invited and make an appearance at the next reunion show.
Boom! Boom! And...Boom!

The only reason I am glad Dickey did not show Saturday, is because I did not go that night, and would have been VERY disappointed to miss it.
I really don't care about the war of words between Gregg, Butch and Spero and who was telling the truth..
It seems appropriate to me that Bert Holman, as manager for the ABB reached out to David Spero, manager for Dickey, to arrange an appearance. Should the call have been made before October 20th? Sure, but since when has the ABB been well organized?

Right on...I would have loved to see Dickey show up that night...musical flubs...heck there were more guests, beyond poor Hubert, who weren't at their best over the years. Also,I've heard and seen many shows with DB&GS and yes, some off nights, but some real nice playing evenings as well.I'm sure Derek and Warren would have smoothed rough playing edges as I've seen them do many other times for guests who had difficulty.
As for who lied...who cares. It's all over now.

Because I used to love them ... but it's all over now ....................

Ok 7 people in a row making sense, is there not a rule against that? Alan and the rest of you are bang on. Regardless of how good it would be, it would be a night to remember. If it became an emotional high and musically over the top then it is history. You never know if you don't take risks and try. If it was a train wreck and destroyed their legacy and left some fans requiring medical attention then the Dickey haters could have claimed victory for eternity. Everybody wins.

Allman Brothers Band DNA =
You never know if you don't take risks and try.

In a way it is understandable that Dickey did not come to the shows. The band in it's current incarnation was Gregg, Butch, Jaimoe, Marc, Oteil, Derek and Warren. THAT is the band that wanted to close at the Beacon and say goodbye BECAUSE Derek and Warren were leaving. THAT BAND was not going to continue because it's two guitarists bailed to do other things.
What place was there for Dickey? To show up with people he hasn't played with in years, when two of them are leaving? Nah, not the right time for him to be there. He doesn't want to retire, so why should he come just to say goodbye?
If it was a RETIREMENT party for Derek and Warren, well okay he could have come to add his piece to it; but they are not even retiring, they are just leaving everybody else flat, with nothing to do but either a) find replacements, or b) hang it up for good as a band.
They took the path of least resistance to just say, it's over, we give up, we throw in the towel.
If Dickey was there and they had three guitarists playing, even with Derek and Warren leaving, there would be rehearsals to find replacements. So it is actually because Dickey was not back with the band that they are throwing in the towel.
Anybody considered any of those things?

If it was a RETIREMENT party for Derek and Warren
Which it was not. It was the Final night of the Allman Brothers Band.
It is over.

You keep saying these things and it is wrong. It is over and they ALL made that clear. All of them.
By the way on a somewhat related note, you keep saying Devon is sleeping on couches and barely getting by. That is NOT what is happening for Devon these days.

It is over and they ALL made that clear. All of them.
I'm pretty sure I've read from interviews with both Warren & Derek the mention of someone in the band getting cold feet.
Which I would surmise as meaning not "all".
Just sayin'.... 😉

Yeah late last year. But some people do move on including Butch, even he agrees it is over.

"Its over and all of them made that clear"
At the closing show, Gregg did the farewell, but prior to that when did any of them say that they WANTED to retire? I know they said this Beacon run would be their last one because they were retiring, did any one of them come out and say "I want to retire". I do not recall that. They said they were retiring, but when did they say individually that they wanted to?
RE: Devon and his couch comments.
On 9/4 Robslob created a thread called 'Devon Allman: How I Make a Living Playing Music" from Devon's Facebook page it said
"posted on 9/4/2014 at 08:11 PM
Devon posted this today on Facebook. I made a couple of edits so the four-letter words wouldn't be censored here:
Someone recently asked me "How do I make a living at music?" I responded "Focus more on making really great music that touches people and touches you and focus less on USING or WANTING so badly for music to make you money. Meaning : When it's ALL about ONLY the f*cking music...when you're willing to sleep on sofas and eat sh*tty tacos and deal with douche nozzles and business deals gone to sh*t and being broke as hell.....when that NEVER EVEN ONCE fades you because all you want is to make music ...then chances are your music will get really REAL and touch people...then the dollars probably will come. If they don't ...write more songs and eat sh*ttier tacos. Humble yourself to the art and maybe the art will notice and take care of you". DA
If he's doing very well, wonderful, it just sounded like he's still payin' his dues.

Devon is doing very well these days, he is a working musician , plays well over 200 dates a year , he's in it for the music, I'm sure he only sleeps on couches these days when he wants to
