Vinyl Obsession on Axs tv
Lately I've caught several episodes of "Vinyl Obsession" on Axs tv. The premise is two musicians or maybe one musician and one actor/celebrity visit an actual record store and are asked to pick their five favorite albums available on vinyl. It can be pretty entertaining. That I've seen, Marcus King and Melissa Joan Hart have each had an ABB album in their choices. One other wrinkle, sometimes they are then asked to eliminate one of the five they've chosen.
So I'm curious, given those parameters which five would you choose? And maybe the why behind that choice.
For mine, I'm going to pick non-ABB releases because I'd probably have all ABB (or close to it).
My five in no particular order:
The Who "Who's Next"
Derek & The Dominoes "Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs"
Billy Cobham "Spectrum"
Freddie King "Texas Cannonball" (the expanded release on cd is even more tremendous)
Rory Gallagher "Blueprint"
Also, I don't think either were ever available on vinyl but Jimmy Hall's "Rendezvous With The Blues" and Tommy Bolin's "Teaser Deluxe" would bump two of the above out if there were vinyl copies.
From the five I listed if I had to bump one it would probably be "Blueprint."
I'm interested in how others would approach this.
"There is no mechanical problem so difficult that it cannot be solved by brute force and ignorance"
Interesting premise. I've not heard of it. I no longer have any vinyl & would replace Fillmore, Duane Anthology, & Laid Back. Otherwise,
Nicky Hopkins, The Tin Man Was A Dreamer
Tom Waits, Closing Time
Layla
Mad Dogs & Englishmen
The Animals
