TTB covers Aretha / Duane / King Curtis "It Ain't Fair"

Duane is on that Aretha song? Sounds like it. Yep sounds like Duane.
I've never been completely certain which Aretha songs Duane was on as he said at a few of her sessions she brought her own guitar player so Duane just sat and watched.

@robertdee it’s featured on the Duane Allman Anthology II so it’s a pretty good bet. Also his strat tone from that era is pretty easy to spot

@porkchopbob I have both Duane Allman Anthology albums but haven't spun them in years. And back then played the first one the most and it went Gold (500,000 copies) and Vol. 2 didn't.
Yes I've played the Aretha twice now and I can hear Duane's Strat. Same tone on Hey Jude by Wilson Picket and other recording from that period. That song got Clapton's attention. Eric called Atlantic Records Jerry Wexler asking who is playing the electric guitar on that.
You know I'm sure that it was Duane's idea for Wilson Picket to record that and Wilson was skeptical because the Beatles still had a hit on the radio with it but Picket went along.
Supposedly Wilson Picket listened to the Beatles version in the studio and wrote down the lyrics but according to an old story Duane told, when they began recording it Wilson Picket sang " Hey Jew" and they immediately stopped him but that is what Picket thought Paul McCartney was singing when he wrote down the words.

Oh man, look at that picture. Doesn't that break your heart? Proof the gods did walk the earth once upon a time. And from time to time. Still feels now though they might never ever do so again.

it was ‘a time that was’ alright - the Skybox emphasized his renown as a session player, Great To See
on & on one could go, yes Hey Jude, Born To Be Wild, Toe Hold, those others from the Wilson sessions -
When The Battle Is Over, also his acoustic playing on Pullin’ (Aretha)
while on acoustic, must mention Got Down On Saturday - a great song (Soul Survivors) w/double-tracked acoustic guitar
his slide playing on Laura Nyro’s (take of) Mr Bojangles -
he’s on the 2 versions of The Weight we all love, Aretha’s & King Curtis’ (along of course w/the Band’s)
all those covers he did, Hey Joe, Harper Valley PTA, Light My Fire, Obladi-Oblada….
we have Duane on Melissa, & Will The Circle Be Unbroken….
the guy was a true maverick vagabond spirit who loved all music & helping spark a session (& a doobie too😉) whenever/wherever he could - wail on Skydog

This debuted on Anthology 1972.
With all due respect to Derek Trucks and Warren Haynes fans and I myself is a big fan of both....but DUANE ALLMAN is the most exciting slide guitar player EVER in the Allman Brothers Band. Duane had an edge and energy on slide the others just simply don't have. I'm sure all here agrees!

These posts especially that picture must have got to me. Saw Duane in a dream just before I woke up for a leak. He gave me a cow from back of his truck. "Look at her man, she's just a pup."
Weird but a privilege. I've never seen my sax idol, Herschel, in a dream.

WOW!!! I've always thought this would be a perfect TTB song and It Ain't Fair is pretty much my favorite song from the Duane Anthologies.

That was sweet --- thanks for posting!

Fantastic!
Great interplay between Derek, Alecia, and Kebbe.
Followed by Dreams. Gotta find that show
