The Allman Brothers Band | Red Rocks 1997

Love listening to this lineup. Jack is just so good, he definitely brought some fresh takes to the material, especially his slide.
Interesting hearing this lineup perform "Need Your Love So Bad".

Pretty good audio Porkchopbob. I saw 6 shows in the summer of 1997 and was worried the band wouldn't be as good since Warren and Allen left. But I was wrong. Jack Pearson immediately became one of my all time favorite guitarists lead and slide and Otiel was real fine too. The Walnut Creek show in Raleigh, North Carolina use to be on YouTube.
I was at the Raliegh show too and it was especially hot. Jack's slide was so Duane like at times. Blue Sky and Dimples really rocked. Jack singing Dimples was the first time I heard the band do that since Duane was in the band.
Wonder why in 1997 Dickey went back to that hardtail Strat tone he had in late 1969 thru about May of 1970? The first 4 or 5 shows I saw in 1970 Dickey played a hardtail Fender Strat. Then he shifted to an SG which was a slightly different tone. Dickey sounded so similar no matter the guitar somehow. Then by fall 1970 Dickey began playing Les Pauls and he went through several finally settled on the one called Goldie in 1974.
I was aware he suddenly parked Goldie and got a Paul Reed Smith because he got mad at Gibson " for ignoring me" in 1994. But I was surprised he went back to a hardtail Strat for his last years in the band. Well in 1996 he went back to an ES-335 which he played when the ABB formed. Strats from 1997 until the fax except I think Goldie was red then and used a little in 2000.
I remember Dickey picking up a Strat in a club in 1987 from the opening band and playing it a little acoustically and he told the guy he was a Les Paul man but kept a Strat around the house because he liked them in the studio as a rhythm guitar.
My favorite Dickey tone was the Goldtop he played from about May of 71 until Duane was killed. That is it on One Way Out on Eat A Peach. What a tone!!!

Hey porkchopbob. Forgive me but I'm not trying to hijack the thread. I've listened to 44 minutes of the red rocks from 1997 and really digging it. Going for the rest of the show after dinner.
But knowing how we both like Jack and his slide, I wondered if you had seen the above? I found it Wednesday. It's only been on YouTube a few days apparently. Crazy slide licks I've never heard before. Hope you like it.
BTW I got my second Covid shot today. Hope it works a little. Pfizer.

@robertdee amazing stuff, I'll never complain about more Jack Pearson in a thread. Jack's slide is so smooth and effortless.

Anyone have a link to download the audio show?

Once again I can say, it never surprises me each time I visit this forum and get a chance to experience such great music. Thanks @PorkchopBob for sharing not only your music and the Music of my favorite band , but also your vast amount of knowledge as it relates to all things Allman Brothers. Red Rocks is on my bucket list to visit someday, but until then I'll just sit back and let the good times roll!

I think 1997 is the year I need a new copy of as much discs are plagued with clicks and diganoise. Will double check but pretty sure.

Bumping this excellent Red Rocks show.

Thanks. I enjoy this show too. It's a little loose here and there but powerful and everyone in the band is reaching down deep to hit one out.

Another great show IMO. I've always wanted to travel to Colorado and see a show at Red Rocks. Thank you for sharing..

This was my favorite era of the Allmans. I also was freaked when I heard Warren and Woody left. I was like who's Jack Pearson and Oteil? Lol. Jack has become one of my favorite guitar players to this day.
And Oteil, if I ever get to meet and thank him... he's been the bass beat of my lifelong soundtrack... the Allmans then, and now D&C.

I shared those same exact sentiments and remember seeing Jack onstage for the first time with the overalls, flat cap, and stache and was like, "did they pull this guy from the sheet metal trades --- doesn't fit the brothers vibe at all"
After about the 3rd song I was sold and this show is a perfect example of why
