I was lucky enough to see SRV about 10 times between 1983 and his death in 1990, from My Fathers Place in Roslyn to Jones Beach. He always played a tune or two you never heard him do before and left you wanting more. I remember he played Nassau College in May of 1984, I was on the concert staff and blew off classes all day in hopes of meeting him. At the sound check he joined the band on stage played one song, and then Tommy and Chris left the stage and Stevie stayed and played about 20-25 minutes of amazing guitar playing in front of me and like 2 other people. It was awesome to say the least. When he finished, I got a chance to chat with him awhile, I took a pic with him and he signed my "Texas Flood" album. That record is over 30 years old and hangs in my den to this day. Thanks for the article Alan, it took me back to that special time when I got a chance to meet one of the greatest guitar players that ever picked up a strat.

One of the times we spoke, I told him we had the same birthday and he told me October 3rd is a great day. Allen Woody would have been 59 today.
