Santana - Moonflower
Well, got this album as a Christmas gift. I'd heard of it, but never listened to it before. Just got finished, and it's an awesome album!! Great performances of some great tunes. Carlos plays his ass off on the guitar!! The rest of the band is great as well.
one of my favorites, you will enjoy it for years to come !
Moonflower is a fine album.
I got a UK video sent from Ireland of the show in London Santana performed with Eric Clapton and it has some great versions of Clapton's usual songs.
Santana oddly is playing a very beat up guitar on this show. Usually he has brand new guitars.
Here is High Time.
I did it backwards and got this album first, before even the abraxas years.
Timeless recording
I don’t think I have ever seen Carlos playing a Strat - not in a picture or a video. I’m guessing he didn’t have one of his PRS axes handy and that could be one of Doyle’s guitars.
@meandean Now that you mention it, neither can I remember Carlos playing a Strat. And it's really beat up and road worn and Carlos always has a guitar which looks like new.
I saw him a few times. I think a Gibson SG in 1970. Mid 70's a Yamaha guitar then in recent years some beautiful Paul Reed Smith guitars.
Probably a guitar which was someone's back up he used. Maybe Clapton got him to sit in when he wasn't expecting so didn't have a guitar.
Again the Strat Carlos is playing is terribly beat up but I guess it sounds okay.
@meandean I did some searching last night and Santana does mainly use PRS guitars on stage now and recent years.
Found out he occasionally will break out one of his Fender Stratocasters he has to use occasionally in the studio for rhythm tracks.

Moonflower was my first Santana album guessing in 78 at age 16. I've been a lifelong fan and get to see him again soon at the
fantastic St Augustine Amp. Truly looking forward to seeing that show.
That wouldn't be Doyle's guitar. He is a lefty.
Hey CB, Doyle does play left handed, but he plays a right handed guitar upside down, the same way Albert King, Otis Rush, and Eric Gales play, so a righty playing Doyle’s guitar would be right at home.
Hi Meandean, you are right. Thanks for pointing this out.
I always thought he had the strings reversed, with the High E still on the bottom. Looking at some pictures, your right, he just basically flips the guitar around so the Low E is on the bottom. (if he were in standard tuning)
