One of Gregg Allman's favorite singers and one of Duane's classic sessions, Clarence Carter passed on this week. Carter was married to Candi Staton, both of whom recorded "That Old Time Feeling"/"Sweet Feeling" which was recorded with Duane and also covered by Gregg.
Always a HUGE Clarence Carter fan. Here's a link from an Alabama newspaper (Clarence was from Alabama) - with some angles not mentioned in other areas - a little Duane content. Clarence was schooled at the Alabama School for the Deaf and Blind - spittin' distance from the house where my mom's family lived.
@robslob As much as I absolutely LOVE Gregg's version ... I have always preferred Clarance's original. Simple progression and riff - one the great cheatin' songs of all time! 😉

I saw Gregg solo in 1988 at a county fair and before Slip Away, Gregg just simply said " Clarence Carter "
