RIP Butch.
You'll be missed but the music you helped create will live on forever.

Very sad news to all lovers of the ABB. Ironically enough I listened to the Atlanta Pop Festival recording last night as I worked out. He was a strong and melodic drummer pushing that unmistakable sound at times like a freight train. Never met him personally but saw him countless times at the Beacon and last September with Les Beres. He will be sorely missed and I give my condolences to his family. Play on Butch!

So sad. His family and friends are all in my thoughts and prayers.
The wife and I and some friends are going to see Tedeschi Trucks Band tonight. It will surely be an emotional show.
We've got tickets for Knoxville tomorrow night. You think they may cancel any dates?
RIP Butch. Thanks for all the great music.

We are going Saturday to the show in Chattanooga. I wouldn't be surprised if a couple of shows get cancelled depending on the funeral date.

Just heartbreaking news ...

Rest in Peace Butch. Thanks for sharing your gift of music with us all, the finest music of my life. Condolences to all the extended Allman Brothers Family.

RIP Butch
thanks for the great music

I too have tickets for TTB on Saturday. I can only assume that that day would be the funeral date. Whenever it is, I hope it goes as well as possible for the Trucks' family.
Still so heartbroken..

I hope him and Duane are spreading some Allman Joy in Rock and Roll heaven...

All day long on Sirius/XM Jam-On, we're paying tribute to Allman Brothers Band drummer Butch Trucks. Tune in to hear Stef Scamardo and Jonathan Schwartz remember the drumming legend, and keep an ear out for Butch's last SiriusXM Radio appearance, as we replay Butch taking listeners track-by-track through the Allman Brothers Band "Live at A&R Studios" archival release tmrw at 6pm ET.

R.I.P.
I never met you, but you were my friend.
You are already missed..
The road goes on forever.......

From my first Butch Trucks drum solo heard as a young freshman in 1973 to my last ABB show I will never get his playing out of my head, and that's a good thing.
What a gut punch....
Mike

Got Lana's Peach-O-Gram and am just heartbroken by the news of Butch's passing. Another one gone. He will be sorely missed. He was a part of the music that was the soundtrack to my life. It helped me through many lows and also helped me party through all the highs!
My condolences to the family. May peace, love and blessings be upon you.

Please seek out loved ones and professionals for guidance and support in times of need. RIP Sir.

Is this referring to Butch's cause of death or are you speaking to the forum in general regarding grieving? Makes me think "suicide" when I read a post like that....

Sad news.... Thanks for the music, my friend. Will always be grateful to you and the ABB for the amazing contribution.

I'm gutted, and speechless. R.I.P Freight Train.

....another reminder how fortunate we are to have discovered this band, the music associated with it, and how thankful I am to have met, both in person and in spirit, others through it.........
Thoughts and prayers to the family and those close to him.
.....WarEagleRK & Crom, Chattanooga for me, also.

I am very saddened to hear this about Butch.
The best tribute I can come up with is that when many left during the drum solo, I always stayed.
My friend and I danced through an ABB drum solo one night.
Thank you for your music Butch. R 🙁 I 🙁 P 🙁

I suppose it's just that fact that we are all getting older, but it doesn't make it any easier. RIP my drumming brother Butch Trucks.

My heart is heavy today because last night I received a call that one of the most talented, most intelligent and generous musicians I have ever known had unexpectedly passed away. Butch Trucks, drummer for legendary band The Allman Brothers was a phenomenal drummer but also a great family man and raconteur par excellence. Working with him many years ago as I interviewed The Allman Brothers and all their guests for one of their 2 week runs at The Beacon for his company Moogis.com, I got to know the generosity of the man, the legendary drummer and his beautiful family. To witness his prowess as a drummer from his side of the stage was an honor and privilege that I will cherish forever. Godspeed Butch as you join the great band in the sky.

Sad news and so unexpected.
Not only was Butch a founder member but he must have played more ABB shows than anyone else and his playing was central to the band's sound. As someone has already observed, it was always great to see him lay down his sticks and transfer to the mallets for the timpani.
He had embarked on a new life of semi-retirement in France but you could never imagine Butch staying away from gigging for long and he created not one but two fine bands in his last years.
He was the only band member who made an attempt to communicate with the fans on this site and elsewhere online, even if his views sometimes jarred!
And his launching of Moogis was a great effort to allow fans to enjoy shows remotely. Typically, it seems with Butch there was always an "if" or a "but" and the experiment left many with a sour taste.
It will be for his playing that he will be remembered though, which lost remarkably little in intensity over almost 50 years.
The Freight Train has left the track....
