MSG April 15, 16 who's going?

Just a quick plug that Lana is having a Peach party 5-7 pre-show see Peach party news

Going on 4/6/2025

I was going to go to both shows but $311 a ticket for good seat all in was too rich for me. Going to see Dweezil on the 16th at Town Hall and Mike Stern Band on the 17th at the Bitter End.

Stubhub has great seats (lower level to right or left of stage for $209 including fees, cheap seats are $100 (upper tier).

I am flying for both nights and a Mets game. I had section 114 for the 2nd night that I paid 220 bucksfor a ticket when they went on sale. I called TM because all of the loge tickets that were originally 300 and up for a ticket are now 220 bucks a ticket or 164 bucks a ticket. TM allowed me to upgrade my ticket to any other section which is 220 bucks or up . I exchanged it for section 117 which is much better.
i have a ticket for the first night in the loge on the side that ai bought off Vivid seats for 122 bucks with fees included.

Nice keyboard solo from Reese Wynans!!! Reese of course was in The Second Coming with Dickey and Berry and was asked to join in on the rehearsal shows for Duane Allman's new band but after Duane added Butch Trucks he decided his brother Gregg would be asked to join.
Gregg says in his book that when he arrived in Jacksonville he felt bad for Reese because Gregg knew he wouldn't be in the band because Duane said with two lead players and two drummers he didn't have room for two keyboards. And Reese was a great player. It was a singer Duane needed.
Reese Wynans is I suppose in Gregg's chair for The Brothers shows but I don't consider these two shows Allman Brothers Band shows. This is a different band and a tribute band of sorts and perhaps similar to The Dead as a tribute band to the Grateful Dead. Similar band with some of the same players but a different band. No Jerry Garcia made the difference I guess and with The Brothers it's largely no Gregg Allman.
Here is Reese with a great piano solo with SRV.

The sirius in studio broadcast just now was smoking ! Sounded fantastic.

Nugs.net is streaming both shows. $21.25 ($25 4K) each or both for $40 ($50 4K). Can watch on demand through April 23.

The show last night was fantastic. I was in section 110 is on the side of the stage and could not see the screen and it forced me to really watch the interactions between everyone. Derek, Warren, and Otiel looked like kids who could not believe they were playing this music. Again, the music has so much space, it was like watching a jazz band with guys jamming with structure to follow. The rhythm section was a monster.. Joe Russo was a great addition to the band, and Quiñones stood out last night,
Go see this show tonight if you can. It will be the musical experience of this decade for you.

Had oral surgery yesterday so it was a tough day. But this show and the stream was out of this world. Just phenomenal and met my expectations in every way possible. The sheer joy they played with while exhibiting such intense and unbridled power playing these legendary songs. Can't wait for tonight.

Was at the show last night, can’t say it was the best Allman show I’ve been to, only because Gregg wasn’t there. Musically, it was the best thing I ever witnessed!
Incredible jams, Derek played a flamethrower all night long, the audience was standing everywhere I looked during the whole show.
Wish I could go tonight, there’s plenty of songs left in their arsenal. I can’t wait another five years for the Brothers, hope they tour one day fans all over deserve to see this.

April 15 took the train into the city from Poughkeepsie were I met two great fans awaiting the train. I met my buddy who flew in from JAX. We went to the Peach party getting there an hour early. I started medicating early as i have a tooth needing a root canal (today).
Band came on and immediately the bands interactions with each other and crowd just magical. First set was about 1 hour and twenty minutes. Trouble No More, Hot Lanta, Midnight rider, Come & Go Blues and then Jessica were my favorites. A modest 15-20 minute break and was expecting a jammy 2nd set.
Derek & Warren & Oteil on fire all night. All four drummers were excellent especially Mark. Derek shreds at least two strings as from my seat i could see the broken strings clear as daylight. Truly enjoyed watching the interactions with guitar techs.
Second set starts off with Mt Jam and ends with Ain't Wasting Time No More. Stormy Monday, incredible You Don't Love Me, Dreams, In Memory of Elizabeth Reed (Les Brers & Pascawan) sandwiched in between. Again the crowd is so appreciative and chemistry between the band makes it just fantastic set. Just as I thought set would end with IMOER they break into Into the Mystic. Warren vocals were superlative all night but wow does he do a beautiful job on this song. Set ends they played for 2 hours astonished, musically the best show I've ever seen.
I saw the second to last show at the Beacon and thought that show would never be approached in intensity, musicianship. I miss Gregg
but Robertdee go ahead and compare Tuesday night to the original ABB lineup - WHO Fricking Cares! Not a band alive today can play like the fellows the last two nights. Thursday still in recovery from an incredible show.

@vtab I watched on streaming and it was high energy. The musicians were technically accomplished and clean.
I heard the original band many times in 1970 and 71 and became instantly hooked on how those men played together. You didn't hear the original band I think. And be glad. I'll soon be 79 years old and life isn't as fun. I saw a picture taken at Madison Square Garden of Jaimoe and Derek's father ( Butch's brother) together and both men had canes.
You didn't mention Chuck Leavell who did a great job on Blue Sky and very fine piano on all the song on which he played.
There is no need to compare this to the Allman Brothers Band because this band IS NOT THE ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND!!! It wasn't called or promoted as the Allman Brothers Band.
As good as this band sounded, it didn't sound like the original Allman Brothers. Obiviously they wouldn't because these players are different people with different styles and influences.
The classic genuine Allman Brothers Band sound was actually lost when Berry Oakley and Duane Allman quit the band. The original 6 had their way of playing these songs and heck they wrote most of the songs and arranged the rest.
Here is a short song live and if you listen carefully to Duane and Berry and Butch too you hear a different style.
I'm not saying one is better than the other technically but the original players naturally defined the classic Allman Brothers sound.
Listen here and I'm sure you will hear the difference. This isn't long.

Robertdee you are welcome to respond as i've noticed you like the last word. Correct I started following the band with Brothers & Sisters just 50 years ago and thus my opinion is worthless, geez. I truly enjoyed all the drummers and Chuck. I watched you tube catching a few of the 16th songs. I never mentioned ABB just referring to the 15th show as the band. I never compared the band called the Brothers to the ABB in any way. You did being negative again. You just like to stir the pot. What i did say is IMHO i thought the Brothers show on the 15th was the best show I've seen. I watched on nugs the last Brothers show due to covid. IMO there is no comparison
to actually being at the show. I loved Jessica, Ain't Wasting, Come & Go, No One to Run with, Into the Mystic, (Soulshine, Southbound 16th), Desdemona all of which I believe were recorded subsequent to Duane & Barry passing. I grew up with Ramblin
Man and somehow wish that song could be included in the two nights but truly respect that was Dickey's song. I loved the 15th show.

This past week brought back memories of the old days on this sight and life felt lighter knowing there was a show to listen to and talk about. I smile thinking about the old heads on this site (Old Coot!) and I miss the friendship and bonds of days of old. I loved the power, skill and majesty that this ensemble displayed this past week! Some of the songs raised the hairs on my arms and brought tears to my eyes. It matters not what they call themselves or who is in the band; the quality of what they delivered was 100% ABBesque! Warren, Derek, Jaimoe and Marc owe us nothing and deserve to do what they want to do but selfishly; I hope we get a little more taste of this ensemble. I know their schedules are full but I would love another multi night run at the Fox or an appearance at Christmas Jam. There is still so much gas left in the tank and they really looked like they were having fun on stage. Dickey, Gregg, Duane and Butch would have been proud of what the Brothers delivered this past week!
"It's heavy; lay your burden down" WH

@vtab No offense at all. I'm glad you enjoyed The Brothers show better than any show you ever attended and witnessed.
I attended the 2020 Madison Square Garden show but didn't feel up to traveling this time. I did watch on a streaming service and as I stated earlier the show was well played and played with conviction and lots of energy. With all due respect to Warren and he did a great job singing but for those songs Gregg was really missed for me.
I would enjoy seething the Brothers do a tour playing Allman Brothers music much as the Dead continued the spirit of the GRATEFUL Dead after Jerry Garcia passed.
The best music shows I ever attended were the Allman Brothers Band in 1970 and especially in 1971. I know people who would disagree and tell you a different band was the best. Pink Floyd or Van Halen etc.
For me after Duane Allman and Berry Oakley left the band it never sounded the same again. There hasn't been another guitar player in the band who played like Duane Allman and had his energy and vibe. Also there has never been another bass player to equal Berry Oakley and how he made the band swing like a big bang.
I enjoyed the Brothers and Sisters version of the band and thought Lamar Williams was an excellent bass player but of course it was different than Oakley. Chuck Leavell added great musicianship to the band and took Duane's chair more or less without the band hiring another guitar player. As you probably remember, Gregg and Butch were strongly opposed to replacing Duane with Les Dudek or any other ax man.
The Brothers and Sisters period was the band's most successful period by far commercially. The album sold over 7 million copies and the band was headlining coliseums on the same level as the Rolling Stones and Pink Floyd etc.
I've enjoyed shows by all lineups and off shoots. I've seen several Govt Mule shows and TTB too. I saw the Allman Brothers Band in Las Vegas in 1999 when Susan opened for the ABB and Derek Trucks was a new member and apparently that tour is when Susan and Derek got aquatinted. Derek and Dickey played great together that night.
But to me the later versions of the band do not sound and play like the original band which I enjoy hearing on recordings today the most. Me being in my early 20's and the original lineup just sounded different as a whole. Why? Because Duane and Berry played differently which colored the original lineup differently. Duane and Berry died and different men had their spots in the band over the years and they played differently. The later lineups just sound different to me and I like the vide and the original ABB sound the best because that is what grabbed me and I fell in love with. The original is the classic ABB sound.
The version of Elizabeth Reed on At Fillmore East is the best version of that song to me to this day.
Even Old Coot stated awhile back that the next to closing show at the Fillmore East is the best show he ever saw. But obiviously Old Coot really likes Derek Trucks and Warren Haynes and Oteil Burbridge. And that is fine. I like them too ever if not as much as Old Coot.
I'm old and retired now. To me NOTHING will ever top the original Allman Brothers Band and to me they had the classic ABB sound and way of playing.
You may find a modern painting you like better than the Mona Lisa. I'm almost 79 years old and still think the Mona Lisa is the most inspiring painting I've ever viewed. Stuck in the past and too old to move on.
Take care and I respect your tastes in music and the musicians you love the most!!

Here is a nice review. The author seems to know the band.

VTAB - I loved your review. I wish I could have made it to NYC for the show. You articulated your thoughts very well. We all didn't see the original band. So what? My first show was in '93. It doesn't mean our opinions are any less valid.
Everything in Moderation. Including Moderation.

@lee Lee what exactly is your and VTAB's opinion? You all are certainly entitled to have an opinion and it should be respected.
But what is it exactly? The Brothers are better than the original Allman Brothers Band? Derek, Warren and Oteil are better than Duane, Dickey and Berry?
I brought this up several years ago. When you listen to At Fillmore East and the live tracks on Eat A Peach, would those tracks sound better if it had been Derek, Warren and Oteil on them?
To me I can't see how any musician could improve what the original band played. Certainly others would make it sound different and perhaps faster or whatever but actually better? And certainly the way the original band played together defined the classic ABB style and sound.
I don't see a thing wrong with you all thinking Derek is a better slide player than Duane and Warren a better lead player than Dickey and Oteil a better bass player the Berry. That is fine if you think that. And maybe they are better musicians. But they were not the players which made the Allman Brothers Band famous and created the ABB sound which from the beginning was unique and their sound.
If you are like to hear Derek play Statesboro Blues, Jessica and In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed better than Duane and Dickey that is fine. Don't be shy. Just say it. I won't complain.
I know some guys who think Steve Vie and Eric Johnson and some others are better musicians than anyone who's ever been in the Allman Brothers Band.
Musicians who can play as well as most who have been in the Allman Brothers are all very fine players. It's probably just a matter of which ones a man likes best.
Personally I think Derek, Warren and Oteil are fantastic musicians. I just happened to like the way Duane, Dickey and Berry sound on those old songs best. It's the guys I got hooked by in 1970 and 71 and later lineups for me are not the same. A noticeable difference.
Take care!!

@robertdee Not everything has to be greater than or less than. Great music stands on its own and doesn't need to be compared or relative. Let everyone just celebrate 2 amazing shows by musicians who are still with us. The deceased aren't taking the stage any time soon.

I'm just glad we have some debate going on again with more than the usual 10 or so suspects who've been vocal here over the last 5-10 years!
The Warren record w/ Derek, Soulshine benefit, Dickey tribute and now the Brothers shows have been quite the blessing for a band that ended a decade ago

@porkchopbob Good point. I streamed the first 2025 Madison Square Garden show and Jaimoe wasn't out there for the entire blow and Chuck wasn't either. Age may have been the reason with Jaimoe. I think he is 80.
If the original band were still living like Jaimoe fortunately still is, Duane, Gregg, Dickey, Berry and Butch playing in 2025 probably would have done a shorter show and one night:)
The old man done caught up with them by 2025 for sure.

Perfectly said Porkchopbob - aside from playing my favorite music, the Brothers interactions with each other and crowd is what really caught my attention. Derek was often animated (seriously). He, Warren & Oteil had a blast playing together. Derek & Warren both played
flamethrowers (great adjective Steadyhorse) and completely agree it was the best show I've ever seen musically. One setlist site said the show started about 745 ok later than i thought but monster WP ended at 1120. There are very few bands that play for 3.5 hours and lets not forget none of these guys are in there 20's or 30's anymore. Islalala spot on man, I was hoping for a 2+ hour show.
Anyone want to provide feedback on the 16th show? I've heard about that show in general terms as being very similar in intensity to 15th. Personally, I loved the setlist of the 15th.
Watching you tube videos last night was a jerk messing with Derek with a small laser?

My superfluous and largely unimportant observation from the 16th show was that someone(s) from the audience would shout "Reece!" in between almost every song and Reece would turn to look EVERY TIME, 1/2 surprised 1/2 thrilled....

@islalala Reese could have been an original member IF Gregg had turned down Duane's invitation to join as singer and organ player. And if Duane had hired a seventh member to sing. Duane, Dickey and Berry all sang on certain songs in the various bands in which they had worked but Duane felt they needed someone to do most of the singing.
Reese was in The Second Coming with Dickey, Berry and Larry Reinhart.
When Reese knew he wouldn't be in the Allman Brothers he joined Larry Reinhart in Captain Beyond. Because of poor management Reese was not making any money and was living in someone's garage. Reese was forced to quit Captain Beyond even though he was pleased with how the band sounded.
Reese finally got good paychecks from 1985 to 1990 playing for Stevie Ray Vaughn. And Reese has been in Joe Bonamassa's road band and today Reese is a multimillionaire.
Now Reese is also a member of the Brothers. Assuming they play again down the line he says.

Listened to the downloads of both shows from the archive. Wow, amazing! Great musicianship! It didn't sound like guys who haven't played together in years, much less with a brand new drummer. Wish I was there.
