Was Butch thinking Jaimoe didn't have it any longer?...Latterday Beacon shows bear that out to some degree: when Paul Riddle (from MTB) sat in across from Butch, it was ineed a freight train, on its own terms and in comparison to the other alignment!?!

That's a pretty big leap.
Jaimoe would occasionally sit out with a bad back and Riddle or van de Bogert would sit in. The rhythm section would switch chairs on occasion - even Oteil would sit in once in a while. Butch and Jaimoe had the most unique interplay compared to the other alignments and no reason to assume Jaimoe sitting out was anything other than Jaimoe deciding to sit out - their kits were side-by-side in Butch's excellent Les Brers band.

@porkchopbob I remember Allan Woody saying in an interview he had played to some decent crowds when he played bass for the Artimus Pyle Band.
But when he joined the Allman Brothers Band soon he was playing in front of 20,000 people and Woody said he was scared and his knees were shaking and he had to really concentrate to play.
They get into Blue Sky and he realizes Jaimoe isn't playing and looks over and Jaimoe had walked in front of his kit and was making adjustments to how some of the components were sitting. That Jaimoe didn't pay any attention to that huge crowd.
I had noticed some Blue Skys and Jaimoe didn't play during Warren's solo but it was after Marc Quinones joined.
Also I doubt Butch could actually tell Jaimoe when and when not he could play. The founding members got to vote or argue it out with the others. The others were hired hands so to speak. Gregg and Dickey both said they didn't believe in telling a man how and what to play when he had a solo and Duane didn't do that either. But I think as the band got closer to 2009 and the 40th anniversary, Warren, Derek and Oteil would have their say and occasionally function like a voting founding member.
Check out playing the drum sticks and the head rims!! Pretty cool.

I understood what you wrote. I disagreed with your assessment, try not to take it personally.

Any insight into why Marc wasn't in Macon a couple weeks ago?
The group they had on percussion held it down for sure, but would've elevated a few levels with him present
Miss seeing him live

Apparently Marc recorded a salute to Dickey. In it he said from 1991 to 2000 he rode on Dickey's bus and they had some interesting conversations and Dickey was a tremendous guitar player, innovator and writer but each night you didn't know which Dickey you were going to get.
Also checked and while not a voting member of the Doobie Brothers, Marc is a member of their touring band on percussion and vocals and appeared on the most recent albums.
Couldn't find any evidence the Doobies were playing during the Dickey show but they do have several shows booked for later this year.
Maybe he didn't feel like traveling down there from New York. That is why Jaimoe wasn't there.

@robertdee he and I are not friends because we are not on the same wavelength at all!?!
