UPDATE:Mammoth WVH Live on Jimmy Kimmel - Distance and Acoustic Version Today show

That sounds great....Eddie wasn’t lying when he stated years ago that Wolf was a tremendous musician with a bright future. Given he wrote and recorded the entire album it’s apparent he has a shitload of talent.
I’m most impressed with his vocals. He has a nice tenor voice with some serious power and a little grit for lack of a better word.
The band is pretty kicking as well.
I’m looking forward to hearing this entire album.
That Gibson 335 is pretty f sweet too...

Yeah, I agree. The vocals caught my attention. Future looks good!
here is another track
Everyone has a plan, till you get punched in the face,

His dad never sang lead did he? But Wolfgang has a good lead voice.
And he is smart I think to not be another Van Halen clone band.
Who are the other guys? Guy on the Les Paul and the drummer look familiar.
No two hand hammers (tapping) either.
Man within 2 or 3 years of Van Halen becoming famous 70% of the rock guitarist out there were doing that including players in the bar bands.

The drummer I think is from Alterbridge and the other guitarist plays in Slash's band.

Actually EVH was the lead singer in their first band....Which was called Mammoth...The name of Wolf’s band is an ode to that original band along with his initials at the end. Thus “Mammoth WVH.”
He has stated in numerous interviews that he does not have any interest in being a clone of his father or the band Van Halen and that he wants his music and band to stand on their own. He even warned that this new album is not at all like Van Halen and those who listen to it should know that up front.
One thing EVH doesn’t get credit for is his background vocals. Mike Anthony is of course the high part in the three part harmonies in Van Halen....Eddie is the third harmony voice along with Roth, Hagar, Cherone...
In the early years those harmonies are, in my opinion, one of the things that set VH apart from all the other hard rock acts in the mid to late 70’s...

@chain I'm glad you reminded me of that. I well remember seeing Eddie singing backing and harmony vocals the times I saw them live years ago.
I agree Wolfgang is smart not to go down the Van Halen (band) clone road.

I agree about the harmonies . Definitely part of the signature sound of VH.

Man, the harmony vox on "I'm the One" off VH-1 are great. It's like a blues-metal tune and then that breakdown that sounds like a barber-shop quartet meets the Beatles. What a great tune. I saw a recent article mentioning Alex Skolnick from Testament citing this tune as his favorite VH songs.
In addition to initially singing lead for Mammoth when they were a trio, who could forget "How Many Say I?" from the very forgettable VH-3 record in 1998? Sorta had a Roger Waters sound to his voice.
From the record:
Crappy video/audio recording live from the VH-3 tour. As I recall, at the beginning of that tour they hauled around a grand piano for Ed to do this at the beginning of the encore. I don't think that lasted very long given the cost and PITA-factor of hauling a piano around on a national tour, and the lackluster reception of the song and the album for that matter. Great tour though...musically from a performance-standard, they were firing on all cylinders and also covering both prior eras in addition to promoting VH-3 tunes.

That VH III tour with Cherone was the best they sounded and played in years from what I heard....Not only because Cherone sang the classic Roth tunes, but because Eddie was incredible that tour....As was the entire band.
I still say Van Halen III, the album, doesn’t get the respect it deserves. Despite it’s various flaws, it was a different side of Van Halen and like Fair Warning, wasn’t the typical VH formula....I think your mention of similarities to Roger Waters is a theme that fits with some of the material on the whole album...The songs Once and A Year to the Day are a bit floydish.

Yes, and no. I liked that EVH took chances and got "creative". I agree big time with you there, and moving beyond the VH formula. EVH should have been given kudos for trying (and failing, IMO), but instead I think he took it as public rejection and that was the beginning of the end for VH songwriting wise. The album needed a producer to help reign in the songs. It was just a little too disjointed, and I believe many of the song ideas were written for Hagar who has a bit of a higher (or wider?) range than Cherone, so it was a bit of forcing square peg into round hole. I really would have liked to hear the follow-up they were working on before Cherone exited, which apparently was all new material written for/with Cherone. I also would really like to hear a properly mixed & mastered version of VH3, but they will never invest in a remaster of 3 as the VH camp already acts like it never happened.
The first vocalist they allegedly chose as Hagar's replacement recently did an interview with Rolling Stone, and he said the song ideas EVH presented him largely sucked and he pretty much re-wrote everything but Ed's guitar tracks on the one tune he finished (demoed) with Ed. I don't know that's 100% accurate, but probably some truth in there. You can read it here: https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-features/van-halen-fourth-singer-mitch-malloy-interview-1106746/. (And me thinks VH would have been more of a disaster with Malloy based on the snippets that have surfaced of what he worked on at 5150.)
What VH-3 and Malloy's comments do seem to show, however, is just how good both Roth and Hagar were at their jobs in the band taking EVH's music and guitar ideas and helping craft them into great songs.
VH-3 tour was great from vids/boots I have heard. Ed still had great tone in the 1996-98 time frame, even if grittier and heavier. He got a little too buzzsaw-y for me in the 2000s/2010s.

I have heard Sammy mention that before in an interview and I heard Dave do the same sort of similar work also. Kinda getting off subject here, but this is just my opinion, but I always thought Dave was a very good lyricist. He will never be mistaken for Dylan or anything like that but I always thought he could be pretty clever, witty, and almost sinister at times.
Everyone has a plan, till you get punched in the face,

I agree about Roth....Great lyricist, at least for that era of hard rock music....That sinister component is all over Fair Warning. Mean Street being a great example of that sinister attitude perfectly complimenting Ed’s darker than usual music.
As Alex Van Halen mentioned recently in an interview, “Dave is a poet, 90% of his material is bullshit, but the other 10% makes it more than worth it.”
Zambi,
I agree about a good hard rock producer and also a good engineer could have capitalized on Ed’s left turn creativity and improved VH III.....
I also would love to have heard the follow-up....I’m hoping Warner Brothers will one day release it should they ever convince all parties involved to allow it....

That quote from AVH is pretty funny!
I have heard Eddie Trunk talk that he has heard some of the material on the follow up to VHIII from Gary.
I posted this awhile back about the early VH stuff from Warner. If you got some time worth checking out.
